jaybird,

I just really like Bobby Bowden and I have cheered for them for a long time. There really is no reason why I like FSU, it is just one of those odd things that many can't explain.

I do not remember seeing the foul language that is being discussed here but if that happened that is a shame that Weis had to be that way about his team playing like dirt. I do however remember seeing a lot of Brady Quinn's sister, or A. J. Hawk's girlfriend, however you want to look at it. I was upset about that because they made the game out to be something of the Quinn/Hawk bowl, which took away from the great play of guys like Zbikowski, Walker, Ginn, Smith and Holmes along with the strong OSU defense. I was more then disappointed by that particular broadcast, and it was for many reasons.

My college coach and coaching staff never used profanity either.  Amos Alonzo Stagg is documented in football history to have never used profanity coaching or otherwise.  None of us are perfect, but the real unequivical truth (if everyone one of us looks ourselves in the mirror and acknowledges the truth ;)) is that one doesn't need profanity to be motivated nor to protest ones anger or disappointment with something that is disagreed with in the coarse of coaching or a game.

Paul Brown used neither profanity nor a raised voice in order to motivate or express emotion..

Mr. Ypsi

On the other hand, I've often read that Vince Lombardi used both!

I'm NOT defending either profanity or shouting, just trying to update Leo Durocher's statement - "nice guys finish last (AND first)".  Quite a variety of styles seem to work IF you've got the talent AND the smarts.  Ideally, I'll take the John Wooden approach, but not everyone is John Wooden.

[Have I won the Mr. Obvious trophy yet? ;) ;D]

vikes35-- I understand ( in response to Bowden and FSU).  Sometimes we just back a team that catches your eye.  For example, I  am a big Syracuse fan and ( as a youngster) nobody knew why.  I just remember watching their Orange uniforms and when I was old enough to realize which team it was, that's how I became a Syracuse fan.
FSU is a great program very similar to Augie  ;D

I agree that Bush's numbers can look skewed if you take out the kick return yards or if you take away a long pass reception or a long run (there are many people who's numbers would be skewed if you did that), the point I was trying to make is Young and Leinart get huge numbers because they don't have to split time like Bush does.  Imagine if USC didn't have White in the backfield half the time. Bush wouldn't have double the total amount of yards, but it is quite possible he could have averaged 400 yard of offense a game (including return yards) which is unheard even for a qb.

You are correct that you can't take away his return yards or long plays.  The point I was trying to make is that although White had less total yards, I feel he had a greater impact on the game than Bush did.

About the profanity topic, we are all adults here. In college and the NFL the players are adults. So coaches can say what they want in my mind. Now when  a coach is at the high school level or lower that language should not be accepted for the fact that the players are not adults yet. Swearing is a part of just about everybody's vocabulary. They are just words that express how a person feels. Like if a person feels mad but they might express how mad they are by using a swear word. I dont see a problem in that when it is done in an adult situation. College and up fine. High school and below NO!

A question for everyone:

If you are the Houston Texans, who would you take #1 in the draft? (Bush, Young, Leinart, White, or someone else)
It's REDMEN not RED MEN

That's a toughy because you can't really no wrong with either guy.  If I were the Texans Coach  I would go with Bush because David Carr is my QB.

I would imagine that the Texans would have a hard time choosing another QB with the first pick in the draft after they have spent time and money on Carr.   Bush is hard to pass up with the first pick, but if i'm Houston, I trade down with someone to get some more picks.  They do have Davis who is a fairly decent back. Their offensive line was the worst in football this past year and got Carr killed.  That first pick should bring a huge premium.  Big problem for them now is that Young has declared for the draft and the pressure to take a hometown kid is going to be huge.  Mel Kiper's got nothing on me!   :D

Congratulations to the regional awards handed out.  It was nice to see a few Cardinals, including Holden who I felt had an underrated season.   There isnt really a whole lot to talk about in the offseason is there...

did I miss something on the all-region. Holden was not on there. Also, when I went back to look through the all region teams. Did anyone else think the MUC coach should of got North Region coach over Capital, considering MUC beat the twice this year and also won the national championship as a underdog.

Jaybird,

Go into your profile and click on forum profile information.  Under signature, put what ever message you want between the words move with brackets around them.  The second move should have a forward slash in front of the m. e.g.  move  /move Just put the brackets around each move.  I hope that helps.  Maybe somebody can explain it better?

I hope Jaybird figures it out! ;)

Having watched a lot of USC and Texas this year, I'd go with Young over Bush. Unlike Michael Vick, Young is not only an athlete, he's a quarterback as well. Vick is a heck of an athlete, he's not an NFL quarterback. After watching Bush against the Irish and the greatest run I've ever seen against Fresno State, he deserved to get the Heisman.

Young deserves to be the first pick because he carried his team on his back in the biggest "Game of the Century" and won a National Championship. Bush will be just fine as a number two or three pick.

I don't condone Charlie's swearing but get over it. Football is an emotional game and things are said in the heat of the moment.  The Notre Dame program is probably under the brightest spotlight of all in college football and every thing he or his players do gets maginifed tenfold - especially this year after waking up the echo. People just love to pounce on everything that goes wrong at ND because of what the program has meant over the years.

Focus on the positives like his visit with the little kid that died of cancer the day after his visit. In the big scope of things, swearing isn't even on the radar.
