NPU blows two second-half leads and loses at Augie, 26-20.

The Park had the ball first and goal at the Augie 2 with five minutes and change remaining, and came away with nothing.

Just an aggravating day here for North Park, which couldn't stop Augie's ground game and made too many mistakes and left too many points on the field to claim the win.

Any question about who is the QB for Wheaton after last week and this week are answered.  Another 8 TD's for Peltz.  4 passing, 4 rushing.  Over 100 yards rushing and nearly 300 yards passing, over 80% pass completions.  I believe Peltz completed his first 15 or so passes before his 1st incompletion.

Wheaton up over Elmhurst 56-20 with 2 minutes left in game.

Peltz has completely changed the Wheaton offense.   550 total yds for the team today.  18-22 passing for 289 yards with 4 passing TDs plus 16 carries for 119 yards and 4 rushing TDs.

Wheaton 56
Elmhurst 20

Wheaton 63 plays 548 yards, 27 first downs, 8-11 on 3rd down
259 yards rushing
289 yards passing

Johnny Peltz 18-22 82% 289 yds 4 TD's 0 INT; 16 rush 123 yds, 7.4 yds per rush, 4 TD's
Danny Puknaitis 14 rush 105 yds
Luke Thorson 8 catches 120 yds 3 TD's
Keegan Kemp 6 catches 132 yds

Elmhurst 62 plays 351 yards, 16 first downs
Joe Camiliere 16-27 59%, 1 TD, 0 INT; 17 rush 95 yds
Josh Williams 14 rush 56 yds 2 TD's
Kaylon Miller 6 catches 104 yds

Elmhurst got the ball first and on their 2nd play from scrimmage got a busted coverage on a slant for a 71 yd TD pass from Camiliere to Miller and all the Wheaton fans thought "here we go again..". Then Johnny Peltz and the Wheaton offense took over. I didn't think Peltz could improve much on the performance he had last Saturday but he did. At one point he was 16-16. He accounted for 8 TD's and Wheaton converted the first 8 of their 3rd down plays they faced while not sending a punter out until late in the 3rd quarter. Both teams turned it over 1x but the Thunder were just a much better team and their offensive line dominated again. After a shaky 1st quarter the defense settled in as Elmhurst had the 71 yd TD, scored on a short field after a Keegan Kemp fumble and on their only other scoring drive got a 2nd busted coverage to convert a 3rd and long for a 35 yds pass into Thunder Red Zone. Tremendous job by the Wheaton defense to take Josh Williams out of the game and try to make Camiliere beat them. It was a great game plan and great execution. The only real negative for the Thunder were the 10 penalties for 85 yds. Elmhurts was flagged just 6 times for 54 yards.

This puts the Thunder in the drivers seat with IWU coming to town. Wheaton has to win just 1 of the next two to secure the AQ and the conference championship, really a remarkable job by Mike Swider, who lost 29 seniors, the largest senior class ever for him, and replaced 4 coaches including the defensive coordinator. This team is really playing well right now and they are dominating at the LOS which is the biggest reason they are 8-0. They will face a huge test against an IWU team that is as healthy as they have been since week one and a DLine featuring AA candidate John Worley and emerging CCIW star Kyle Venhuizen.

NCC is very much alive for a pool C. They host Augie this week before finishing at Elmhurst.

We'll see.  The extra C bid that popped up last night is useful, but I'm still not sold that NCC can be any better than the third team up out of the region and that is two and a half strikes against them.  The Cardinals are going to want to Platteville to not lose to Oshkosh in week 11, otherwise, their RROs might disappear.

Yep. There is no doubt they will have to try and get ranked ahead of a 1 loss NCAC team to have a chance of appearing at the table. "You aren't getting three" is alive and well unfortunately and someone will likely be on the receiving end of that unwritten criteria.

The UW-SP loss to Oshkosh today will likely loom large for the Cardinals as the Pointers now drop to 6-2 with Whitewater coming up next week. That third loss could drop Point from the RRO as you're better off having lost to them than not playing them at all when it comes to that category.

Watching a women's bball game between Mt. St.Joe and Hiram. The game was moved from Nov 15 to today so Lauren Hill, a freshman with a rare cancer, would have a chance to play. It's on sports center. Kudos to Hiram for making this girl's dream come true.

Kudos to the NCAA, too -- the NCAA does so many things wrong but they had to sign off on this, and they did.

Glad they did.  It was the right thing to do.

The Elmhurst/Wheaton game's storyline wound up being much like I anticipated. I thought Elmhurst would hang in there for a while, but the sheer brawn and coaching/execution really showed in that 2nd half.  Elmhurst just isn't quite "there" yet.  Wheaton's linemen on both sides of the ball could pretty much have their way and allow the "skilled" position players to make plays.  Peltz was amazing and looked like a well oiled Senior leading his team.
This is just a bump in the road for Elmhurst who continues to look to grow.  IMO, they should use this game as an example of where they want to be and aim for the Wheaton blueprint.

Mike Swider continues to remind me of why I believe he is one of/if not "thee" best coach the CCIW has seen in a long time.  His halftime adjustments and recruits that evolve into making big plays for the Midnight Blue/Orange allow Wheaton to pick up so many W's and pull away late in close games.

Sad news: Click and Clack the Tappet Brothers are no more.  Tom died today.  Can't say 'Don't drive like my brother' anymore.

Tom had Alzheimers, which I assume is the reason there have been no new episodes in several years.

Mr. Ypsi:

Although this news is obviously not football related, nonetheless, it is indeed sad news.  Thanks for the info.  I always enjoyed listening to them on my Sat AM drives over to Hope's campus to the games.  Those guys were hilarious and had me crying from laughter many times.  I especially enjoyed the end of each program when they read credit lines.  I knew the program had been discontinued as far as "live or recently recorded" broadcasts 2-3 years ago, however, never knew why. Your explanation makes sense.  Still, re-broadcasts of their weekly episodes are run by a couple of stations each week and occasionally I am able to get those on the Sat drive over to the games.  Aside from their being a funny duo, they did provide a service to people and they will be missed.   Anyway, thanks again for the info.

Got a hit on Eli in the first half.   He and the colts D have looked good so far.
