Sad news: Click and Clack the Tappet Brothers are no more.  Tom died today.  Can't say 'Don't drive like my brother' anymore.

Tom had Alzheimers, which I assume is the reason there have been no new episodes in several years.

Mr. Ypsi:

Although this news is obviously not football related, nonetheless, it is indeed sad news.  Thanks for the info.  I always enjoyed listening to them on my Sat AM drives over to Hope's campus to the games.  Those guys were hilarious and had me crying from laughter many times.  I especially enjoyed the end of each program when they read credit lines.  I knew the program had been discontinued as far as "live or recently recorded" broadcasts 2-3 years ago, however, never knew why. Your explanation makes sense.  Still, re-broadcasts of their weekly episodes are run by a couple of stations each week and occasionally I am able to get those on the Sat drive over to the games.  Aside from their being a funny duo, they did provide a service to people and they will be missed.   Anyway, thanks again for the info.

Bummer, they have a column in the newspaper that I read every Thursday.

Andy Studebaker (#58) gets the start tonight at OLB for the Colts vs Giants on MNF.

Got a hit on Eli in the first half.   He and the colts D have looked good so far.

Pretty damn cool seeing TWO D3 players starting at LB for the Colts.  My wife thinks I'm nuts and was wondering why I was so excited about that.

Tom of Car Talk, RIP.  Great show, many good laughs over the years, still running in re-runs.  "Don't drive like my brother . . . "

Titans another stiff test at WC this Saturday.  Must be 2-3 TD underdogs again, perhaps more.  Even with Warner and Bolden back, don't see IWU challenging the undefeated Thunder this weekend.

Now that Jack has had a game to 'shake off the rust', the game may be closer than you fear.  At the beginning of the season, IWU was seen as almost the equal of Wheaton.  I think that will prove true, with a puncher's chance at the upset.

Oh, how this season could have been different.  Even with a 4th string qb, the Titans should have beaten Carthage and Augie.  This will long be remembered as the season a promising team was ruined by mono. :P

Ypsi, I hope your optimism comes to pass.  If the Titans play really well, they have a shot, but the D just hasn't been up to normal Titan level this season.  WC is playing at a very high level right now and took care of EC handily.  We'll see.  Warner is quite a talent, Titan receivers pretty good, so the Titan O future in the passing game is pretty good, if he stays healthy.  We'll see.  Still Titans a 2-3 TD underdog this weekend.  Still looks like 4-6 to me.

I'm ready for basketball!  :)

Ypsi, please put on your calendar -- our 45th Class Reunion, October 9-11, 2015.  It's going to be a bigtime party and reunion, so hope you will be there.  Pls. spread the word, especially to other classmates you most want to see back on the IWU campus next fall.  Our big reunion committee is already at work, putting together events, plans, venues, special activities etc.  Be there or be square.

All best from Ames, from the chilly Quad.  Some color on the trees still up, but getting close to the bleak look of winter.

I'm back to Asia in early December, more teaching at CUHK, so will be watching the Titans via video streaming, in my a.m. hours.  Looks like a very promising basketball season, Titan edition, to me.

Be well,
IWU70

Mr. Ypsi

Can't make the 45th, but, God willing, I'll be at the 50th.

That's horrible. I had no clue. I would catch the show when I was either going to work or coming from work (depending on the shift). They both seem to have a real joy for life, lots of laughs.

Late congratulations to Wheaton QB Johnny Peltz for his second consecutive POW honors.  He was also name to the d3.com team of the week.  Artie Checchin and Monterubbio from NCC were the special teams and defensive POW. Congrats to all.

Big game for the Thunder against a dangerous IWU team.  I have been analyzing this matchup and will have more thoughts tonight. IWU is as healthy as they have been since Franklin and will be very dangerous on Saturday.

wally_wabash

Healthy IWU vs. offensively rudderless Wheaton, maybe.  But healthy IWU is about two weeks too late to this party.

Also the first regional rankings come out this afternoon. NCC and Wheaton fans should watch these carefully for clues on possible pool C chances and seeding.

Greg:  your second sentence pains me.  Why couldn't Park's Polynesian poundage push the pigskin past the goal?

Nice alliteration, Mark!

Three of the four plays from the Augie 2 were passes. On two of them T.D. failed to connect with Childress in the end zone; neither ball was really catchable, and Childress was pretty tightly covered. The third pass involved T.D. getting the ball batted back into his face, which he caught (I'm not sure why; standard operating procedure under those circumstances is for the QB to knock down the ball and take the incomplete). As a result, he ended up losing eight yards on a completed pass to himself. NPU only tried one run in the sequence, a no-gain by Filo Langkilde. Just bad execution in that series on NPU's part, while Augie's D rose to the occasion.

It wasn't the only missed chance North Park had on Saturday, either. Late in the second quarter, on a 3rd and 8 from the Augie 13, Dakota Conway was so wide open in the back left corner of the end zone that he could've set up a hot plate and popped some Jiffy Pop in the time that it took for an Augie defender to get to him. Alas, kid brother threw the pass too high for him to catch. On the ensuing play, Noah Moore missed a field goal attempt.

I don't want to lay all the blame on T.D. Conway's shoulders, as he actually had a decent (although not great) day. The Vikings just don't execute well in the red zone. They get there plenty, but they have a tendency to do the wrong thing at the wrong time once they get there. It's been their bugaboo since the beginning of the season, and it's not really getting any better.

You keep saying that, and it doesn't make it any more true. Yes, Warner has looked like a promising QB, but he's only a freshman. It's a dicey proposition for a team that's shooting for a league title and a postseason berth to rely upon a freshman QB, no matter how talented he is.

More to the point, his illness doesn't explain why Anfernee Roberts is bringing up the rear among CCIW running backs in terms of yards per carry, and Warner has nothing to do with a Titans defense that couldn't get the job done against Carthage and which got trampled by NCC. Plus, he was the QB when the Simpson Storm -- they of the 3-5 record -- held the Illinois Wesleyan offense to a field goal in a 13-3 win over the Titans.

Mr. Ypsi

Certainly there have been huge problems elsewhere, but Warner's mono is nonetheless the leader.  If he had stayed healthy, I have little doubt they would be 5-3 rather than 3-5.

This certainly did not turn out to be the team that nearly everyone expected to battle Wheaton for second place.
