In actuality, the above is much more applicable to Glen Ellyn. To Wheaton, not so much.  :D  ;)

Totally.  I've actually overhead a conversation in Glen Ellyn when someone found out a person lived south of Roosevelt, they said in demeaning tone... "Oh... you are 'SoRo'."

Over the past decade there were hundreds of homes on large lots north of Roosevelt in Glen Ellyn that were leveled and replaced by homes 2-3x larger, sometimes two homes leveled and replaced by one.  Definitely an elitist attitude by some.

As AndOne mentions that perspective isn't nearly as prevalent in Wheaton, mostly because there are large subdivisions "SoRo" in Wheaton that have been built in the last 20-30 years.

Mugsy and USee,

Making the trip South of Roosevelt?

Seeing how I already live "SoRo" (which is a derogatory comment for those in Glen Ellyn, not so much in Wheaton), it isn't as far to drive.  Only 6 miles.  I'm planning on being there, with a slight possibility of being a bit late if my son's swim meet runs long.

I'll save you a seat in the end zone for alumni!   ;D

I should clarify.  "SoRo" is not derogatory for Wheaton residents.  For Wheaton students and alum... there is nothing worse than being "SoRo".  SoRo could be this years "SoDup" nomenclature during Bell week?

I like that so much better than SoDup!

After 5 weeks of the season, thought I'd peek at the D3 NCAA stats to see what might be interesting or surprising:

1. Believe this was covered by USee recently, but Carthage & Elmhurst both ranked higher in total defense than either Wheaton or North Central.  Carthage ranked #30 with 274.4 ypg, Elmhurst ranked #33 with 278.8 ypg, Wheaton ranked #36 with 282.4 ypg, and North Central ranked #42 with 293.8 ypg.  Most surprising in this category is the Mount Union is ranked #41.  When was the last time Mount Union was not in the top 10?

2. Not a single CCIW team in the top 50 in 3rd Down Conversion % - NCC ranked #95

3. Rushing defense: Wheaton #14 (60.8 ypg), Carthage #18 (68.6 ypg), NCC #27 (82.5 ypg), Elmhurst #40 (95.4 ypg)

4. Top rushing offense in CCIW is Carthage, ranked #102 with 162.0 ypg

5. Scoring defense: Wheaton #16 @ 11.4 pts, NCC #26 @ 14.0 pts, Elmhurst #32 @ 15.4 pts

6. Highest ranked CCIW scoring offense: NCC #46 @ 37.3 ppg

7. Highest ranked CCIW total offense: Wheaton #78 @ 425.6 ypg

8. Turnover margin: NCC #2 at +2.50

Overall seems the CCIW stronger in the defensive categories than in years past?

I was just looking at these also.  I did a double take when I saw UWW at #175 in total defense!  In their defense they have played some good teams already, but still.

A little late to the WC @ IWU post-game analysis, but wanted to share a few thoughts:

What a performance by the Thunder Offense. There are a lot of accolades to go around, but I'll start w/ AB2. I think this is the best I've ever seen Andrew play. He was remarkably accurate, going 28 for 35 (80%) and was, in particular, dynamic on 3rd down helping WC go 7 for 12 on 3rd down conversions. Next would have to be SO23. 20 carries for 152 yards (7.6 AVG) and many missed tackles along the way. That was an elite performance by Sola. IMO, when he's healthy, he's right up there with the top RB's in the country (#23 Jordan Roberts from UST, #4 Dylan Hecker & #28 Devon Linzenmeyer from UWO, etc). After struggling to find their rhythm for 2 straight weeks, it was great to see the Offense, as a collective unit, come together and perform at such a high level.

Some other quick hitting thoughts:
1) #31 Stone Watson. Did anyone see that 19 yard run by Stone in the 3rd quarter? Kid looked like he was absolutely shot out of a cannon! (and then he delivered a blow to the IWU tackler). WC needs that kind of determined, tough running by #31 on every carry.

2) 6-6 on PAT's and 2-2 on FG's... and they made it look easy too...

3) WC is LOADED at TE. #88 Tyler Pace & #81 Luke Van Dyke (both Sophomores) would be starting for a lot of teams. Tyler made a nice 20 yard reception. I'd like to see more 2 TE sets with one of these guys rotating opposite Zach Lindquist.

4) #3 Chase White. 5 catches, 85 yards, 2 TD's. After bursting onto the scene in week 1 with 6 catches for 97 yards and 2 TD's, it felt as if he disappeared for 3 straight weeks. CW3 needs to be WC big play guy that stretches the field.

5) Freshman #87 Phillip Nichols, 10 catches for 133 yards... continues to impress...

Wow... that is even more surprising.  I didn't go that far down the list.

Quick shout out to OLB #5 JD Leman (class of 2001) and WR (#4?) Jeremy Amos (class of 2001) who will be inducted into the WC Hall of Honor tomorrow.

Leman had a dominant SR season in 2000, earning 1st team AA and the co-CCIW DPOY award. A sleek, long-legged, thouroughbred of an athlete, Leman registered 13 tackles for loss (-57 yards) that year with four sacks (-33 yards). He also recorded three interceptions and two fumble recoveries. He helped WC finish 8-2 overall, 6-1 in conference and earn a share of the CCIW crown for the first time since 1995.

Amos also earned 1st team AA recognition that year with 76 catches, including 12 touchdown receptions. Amos registered 1,171 receiving yards in 2000 for the third-highest single-season receiving yardage total in program history at the time of his graduation. He also contributed to Wheaton's success in that season by setting the program's single-season record for kick return yardage with 21 returns for 488 yards (today this effort ranks sixth).

As an aside, Amos also has the distinction of playing with a worse QB in college than he had in HS (and this is no knock on the WC QB's at the time)... but when your HS QB goes on to throw for 62,172 yards (and counting) and 438 TD's (and counting) in the BIG DANCE, I don't think that's a stretch to say...

Anyone (outside of WC fans) know the HS QB?

Well deserved honor for both of these studs.

Being a SoRo'er myself, I'm with you Mugsy, let's stick w/ SoDup. I certainly don't want to be lumped into the same category as those redbirds...
