At the conclusion of the NCC/Elmhurst game yesterday the two coaches met at midfield, and engaged in what looked to be a fairly vociferous and demonstrative discussion. The engagement appeared to feature some arms extended with palms up gestures, and a fair amount of rapid up and down index finger jabbing.
Anyone have any clues as to what the subject of that discussion might have been?  :-\

Saw the tape of this game.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LwSp4euEzAI
Thorne was really the only animated one in the discussion, but I don't know that he was saying anything critical/negative.
I mentioned in the broadcast and I stand by it...I don't think that there is anything to read into there.

The Naperville Sun's story on the game includes a quote suggesting that Thorne thought Elmhurst was trying to injure Rutter:

"The thing that sets him apart is how competitive he is," NCC coach Jeff Thorne said. "They cranked at his ankle, the kid took a cheap shot at him that he got called for. He didn't flinch. Then he runs in a touchdown."

Mr. Ypsi

I had hoped that NCC and Wheaton would be a bit more separated - looks likely for Wheaton @ NCC in round two (though I don't know much about Huntington).

Seems like it would have been easy to swap Wheaton & St. John's, thereby avoiding early rematches for the CCIW and MIAC teams.

Stagg Again!!

Looks like NCC got the #8 overall seed since they would get the opportunity to go on the road to MHB (the #1 overall seed) in the third round if they get through the HCAC champion and a tough Crusader team.  Seems like there isn't much love for the CCIW or the North Region this year!

I would say it was the cheap shot on Rutter that got him going.

Nice investigative reporting fan.  Not surprised as Thorne did not look happy.

A combination of my investigator background, and my being both a former player and long term fan led me to believe there was something more involved than the normal greetings, salutations, and congratulations typically exchanged by the head coaches following the conclusion of a contest. As Izzy advised Thorne was the more animated of the two, rapidly pumping his index finger up and down. This was the primary factor in suggesting to me that there was at least some degree of displeasure being expressed. Especially, when you consider its rare to see the winning coach be the one that is doing the complaining.  :P

As the regular season concludes, I want to congratulate Head Coach Mike Swider, his coaches and the players for a great year. Swider has again produced a top 10 top 13 team and is on the verge of another playoff spot. It is really hard to go 3 years and lose only 1 conferenceregular season game. The only other team to do so was Augie during their 4 year run as national champs.  Wheaton has a top 20 defense despite losing the player of the year in the league and is a top ten 10 after replacing his offensive coordinator.

Fixed it for you USee:)

Seriously, from a rival fan, congrats indeed to the 2014 and 2015 CCIW champion Wheatie teams who went undefeated in conference both years.

Congrats also to the new and current CCIW champs, the 8-0 2016 NCC Cardinals who also won the 2013 championship outright with a perfect 7-0 record, and who won or shared the title for the 7 years before that.

Over the last 11 years, from 2006-2016, NCC and WC have dominated the CCIW.
NCC is 72-6 over that period, and WC is 63-15 over the same period.
From 2013 through the just concluded 2016 conference season, NCC is 27-2 with WC just behind at 26-3.

Really hoping NCC can make it past Rose and Wheaton. I'd love to be able to make the short trip to MHB and see them play.
You win! You always do!

Should be an interesting trip for Huntingdon. We went over and watched the selection show with the team and friends. It was a weird couple of minutes as soon as Redlands at UMHB came up we were all sure we were headed to Hardin Simmons and didn't have to wonder what was going on for long with Linfield at HSU when we came up next. Found a flight out of ATL late Friday night for a good price and booked it. Any suggestions on where to stay and anything to see in the Wheaton area? Looking forward to a fun trip.

Go see the city of Chicago. 20 miles East. Plenty of things to do and see. I recommend the architectural boat tour on the river. Book online in advance. It's memorable. Get Chicago pizza at Giordanos or Gino's. Should be a great game.
