Some of the lustre of IWU's win over UWW has been lost, as Whitewater falls to Concordia-Moorhead 17-25.  Ironically, last week C-M beat Nebraska Wesleyan, 34-14.  UWW would be wise to avoid NebWes opponents! :o ;)

Midland 24
North Park 14

NPU absolutely collapsed. The Vikings led, 14-0, going into the fourth quarter. Midland ran back a kickoff to the NPU 42, then went in to score its first touchdown. On the ensuing possession, NPU took a couple of dumb penalties, had to punt in the shadow of its own goalpost, and then interfered with the punt returner, giving the Warriors a drive start at the NPU 35. That led to a tying touchdown. Then, after the Vikings were forced to punt again, the Warriors PR took it all the way down to the NPU 5, setting up the go-ahead field goal for Midland.

NPU then would've gotten Midland off the field, but yet another targeting call on the Vikings -- their second in as many games -- kept the Warriors on the field after they'd fallen short on 3rd down. Another touchdown at that point basically sealed the deal.

Coughing up 24 points in the fourth quarter and losing the game after thoroughly dominating the first three quarters is a tough pill to swallow. Give Midland credit for not quitting and for sticking with it, but this is one that the Vikings gave away.

North Park outgained Midland, 345 to 262, and won the turnover battle, two to zero. However, NPU was 2 for 12 on third down and 0 for 3 on fourth.

It's going to be a long busride home.

I was sad to miss this one, since it's the first NPU football game I haven't called in seven years. But, with the game being an overnighter in Nebraska and the North Park volleyball, women's soccer, and men's soccer team all playing at home this weekend, my services are better spent calling games here in town.

Despite the optimism from Rock Island prior to the season, it looks like more of the same from Augie this year as they lose to Central 33-22 to begin the year 0-2.  Watched the 2nd half online, and Augie's D is going to have a tough time stopping anyone this year.  They looked small and played small, which would be ok if they played with speed, but that was lacking as well.  Augie had a chance to get the ball back with about 3 mins left and down only 8, but on a 3rd down incompletion, Augies DB body slammed the receiver after he dropped the ball and was called for unsportmanslike conduct, which allowed Central to continue their drive and kick a FG to secure the win.  Central had ~500 yards of offense and was able to run (4.6 avg per carry/242 yards) and pass (17 of 23/247 yards) with equal effectiveness.  And lest we forget, this was a Central team that got beat by 43 points at home last week.  So Augie has lost two games to very average teams, which doesn't bode well as they enter the CCIW schedule with 3 teams currently ranked in the top 15 in the country.  Looks like another disappointing season for Augie, which will be way too many in a row for Augie fans.

6,

From your description it looks like the old phrase I was small but I made up for it by being slow is applicable to the Rock Islanders. 😒

IWU's win over UWW is still a high quality win. I suspected UWW may not be as good as the rankings suggested. Keep in mind, NCC and Wheaton are virtually the same teams that beat IWU in Bloomington last year and this year the Titans go to Naperville and Wheaton over the next 3 weeks. IWU can absolutely win those games if they stay healthy (Josh Akin played the whole game today) but they will be a decided underdog in both those contests.

Carthage (2-0) dominated Bethel (0-2) today 31-0. The Carthage D has yet to give up any points in 2 games and now travel to Wheaton next Saturday for a 6pm tilt in what will be a very intense battle.

IWU at North Central is the other game among the top 4 teams in the league in what will be the first of a a few deciding weekends in CCIW play.

IWU has Nebraska Wesleyan at home this Saturday, 1 p.m.  Let's hope more good things to come, no let-down from the marvelous, big win over then #3 Wisconsin Whitewater last week.

No injuries reported from the WW game.  That's good, better than earlier seasons.

I don't hold out much hope that my old school can today upset the Green Team, who played brilliantly last week in their upset of the quasi-scholarship team.
On top of already being the decided underdog, the Plainsmen Prairie Wolves lost both their safeties and their #1 running back to injury last week, and none of the three are expected to be able to play today.

IWU over NWU 6-3. About what you would expect from a matchup of the #3 CCIW pick vs. the #6 IIAC pick.

Millikin edged Rose-Hulman in Terre Haute last night, 28-26, to move to 2-0 on the season.

The CCIW went 4-3 this week, and is now 10-6 for the year.

Final yesterday at Tucci @ Wilder Field was 42-21, Titans.  The IWU D and O played well again, esp. the O.  Real score of this one was 42-7, thru 3Q as the IWU offense was pretty much unstoppable, efficient and productive.  Bauer was superb, the new receivers having a better day than vs. WI-WW.  The IWU running back had 126 yards, and Bauer also had a nice running game to match his passing efficiency.  NWU scored two TDs late when the IWU second D unit was in and had a pretty obvious letdown, esp. in pass D.  Coach was not happy, and let everyone know after, including his quotes for the Pgraph coverage -- which you can check out on the Pgraph website if you wish.  Overall, the Titans O was much more efficient in this game.  D played well through 3Q, then 1st unit sat down.  Again, as far as I know, there were no significant injuries.  A good sign heading into next week.

Big game next week at NCC -- to truly test how good this edition of the Titans may be.  Same intensity from the WI-WW game likely needed with no TOs, and a good performance on both sides of the ball.  Should be interesting.

To be 2-0 at this point is, frankly, a surprise, but a very happy one.

Midland totally dominated NP in Chicago last year, winning 42-24.  I attended that game, and saw Midland RB Deon Ransom thrash the Viking D for 140 yards.  He was better than any CCIW RB I saw last year.  Ransom's eligibility has since expired, which is probably the primary reason NP competed yesterday.  Maybe NP's defense is more stout too.

Wheaton #4
North Central #5
Illinois Wesleyan #16
Carthage - ORV

Can't recall ever having 3 CCIW teams so highly rated at the same time, with a fourth receiving votes.  Granted this won't last long as there are big games in the next several weeks between each of these teams - starting with this Saturday.

Carthage @ Wheaton
Illinois Wesleyan @ North Central

BIG week of CCIW games!
