You are right, Izzy. I think this is the natural outpouring of outrage over the incident.

This will fade until it comes to trial or deals are made for lesser charges, but those deals may come at a price of some admission of guilt.

If this goes to a jury, I bet someone will flip. Probation and community service look a lot better than 3 years in Dixon or Galesburg.

If this is a cover-up, or a small punishment was given out before this came to light, then Wheaton is no better than Baylor - putting the health of students at risk for the benefit of their athletics program.

Filing felony charges isn't a whim....

This is just inflammatory and wrong to post. Shame on you for having no facts and saying stuff like this about a school with an impeccable record. As I stated before, anyone who thinks Wheaton College makes decisions that priorities athletes first is absolutely clueless.

Mike Swider has been at Wheaton 32 years and I know he has suspended and dismissed many players over the years for what most people would consider non issues. There is simply no way he is risking his career on any 1,2, or 5 players.

Impeccable record? The KKK skit is impeccable? Canning the professor wearing the hijab is the sign of an impeccable reputation?

I'm just calling it as I see it. IF it's true, and IF Wheaton covered it up, then that's where the Baylor analogy comes into play. IF...

Your recollection of the facts is a testament to your idiocy. In three sentences you demonstrated how little you know.

smedindy

Oh, and no matter of the criminal case, there will be a civil case, no doubt.

I was told there was already a civil case and it was dismissed. You continue to impress with your fact gathering.

My recollection of facts come from easy Google searches that brought back my memory of those incidents. Your reputation isn't what insiders or kool-aid drinkers says it is, it's what the public at large thinks of the institution. Right now, Wheaton doesn't look so good - not as bad as Baylor or Liberty, but not good.

"My idiocy" = google searches bringing up trusted news sources. Oh, critical thinking, where art thou?

Um, no:

"Ekl said "civil litigation is possible if the case is not resolved." This was from the local paper. So, no, there was no civil case.

They didn't can a professor for wearing a hijab.    They canned her for claiming Christians and Muslims worship the same god-- something the institution doesn't agree with and requires it's professors to support the same as a core institutional value.   Scandalous?  The greatest crime in America today is offending someone.  Wheaton has core beliefs that are offensive to people.  The beliefs won't change.

The KKK skit was intended to subvert racism and mock the KKK and was diretly from Bad Boys II (Will Smith-- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h7RbZZVEjQs).  This offended people somehow, however I still fail to see the story.  Do we not teach people that the KKK existed and still exists?

I think there are some misconceptions about these stories.

Then the theology of the institution is questionable. Which is another blow to its reputation, really. A lot of us question religious instruction that includes bearing false witness against the tenets of another religion. (Much less denying science and evolution, but that's another fish to fry...)

And so the skit was from Bad Boys II - it still was not a good look for Wheaton and got it negative press and sullied its reputation.

Yes, people get offended about a lot of things. But offending races and religions is a different thing entirely.

Again, we're talking about outside perception, not from the insiders.

You found that in the local paper and not google? Impressive sources. Since you read it online there probably is no chance its not true and I most likely just made up the idea that a civil case was already dismissed.

Well, it's from the Chicago Herald and a direct quote from the attorney of the injured player. I think I'd believe him.

And if a case WAS brought, it may have been dismissed WITHOUT prejudice, which means the case is not closed and can be re-filed.

Either way, show me YOUR source.

If three incidents in the last three years show Wheaton in a negative light, and are disseminated nationally (and worldwide), then it has a problem with its recent reputation and public perception. Whether it's a misunderstanding, or sensationalized incidents, the fact remains they've had some recent bad press.

So it's not impeccable. There are issues. I hope they resolve them.

That's it. Good day.

Ah, so your theology is the correct theology for all institutions of all religions?

You don't know much about Wheaton obviously if you think Wheaton doesn't teach/support evolution and science.
