Today was so hot that the two 1 pm games had to abide by the CCIW rule that there be a stoppage in the middle of each quarter for a water and rest break, due to the fact that the temperature on the field was 100 degrees or higher. I've never seen that rule invoked before today, although I should add that it was only instituted fairly recently. I wouldn't be surprised if it was just as hot in LaCrosse for the Carroll @ UWL game, although I don't know if the WIAC has a rule like that as well.

It was sweltering in the press box at Tucci Stadium in Bloomington, and that game started at 6 pm.

It was good to be able to get back to football.  Even if you don't care about Wheaton, but you care about D3 athletics, or the way that institutions work, or how the media covers things, or the way that people treat others, or some any other category you can apply, it was a tough week.  I appreciated the way that people chimed in, admitted when they had made mistakes, were passionate about what they felt, shared their feelings, looked for answers, and tried to help others in answering questions.  It demonstrated why these boards are a great outlet.

Although the Wheaton only led 16-8 at halftime and 19-8 after 3, I never got that feeling you get when you see an upset brewing.  I felt the scoreboard did not reflect the dominance of the Wheaton defense.  Elmhurst has some good weapons, but they just could not develop any sort of consistent drives at all.  After seemingly solving their shotgun snapping problems in the second half, Wheaton was able to grind it out, and then cash it in at the end to make the score more reflective of how the game felt, at least to me.

The additional weapon of depth that Wheaton has been able to develop, partially in part of the teams in the late 2000's and early 2010's being greatly affected by injuries IMO, has certainly paid dividend in recent years.  Being able to trot out 1st string talent with backups is definitely a blessing.  Especially in games in weather like yesterday.

Yeah, the school which is STILL the only one to win four straight Stagg Bowls, seems to have become a basketball school which doesn't much care about football! :o

Right. And if NCC can just beat Augie 25 years in a row we can even our all time series record!

While I am on history congrats to #25 who moved up to #5 on the NCC all time career rushing list passing Jordan Tassio and Mike Jakovich.

The CCIW used to publish all-time CCIW standings at the start of every year.  They stopped doing that several years ago for some reason.  As of about ten years ago, Augie was in first with a fairly large cushion. I'd be curious to see what the standings show now.

Yes, in the extreme heat at Tucci at Wilder Field @ IWU, the Titan D put in a great showing, getting a shut-out.  Offense sputtered a bit and was sloppy.  The TOs a concern going into the big game with WC next week.  Looks like it might thankfully be cooler next weekend.  I continue to be impressed with Alexander and his vision and running game.  He had 120+ yards yesterday and caught a first half 36 yard touchdown pass from Bauer.  That consistent, solid ground game opens things up for Bauer and the passing attack.  IWU's newbie receivers are getting better and better, and Bauer is spreading it around nicely.  Next week will be much tougher, so I'm hoping the TITANS play error free and regain the passion and urgency of that first game vs. WI-WW.  I left Tucci heading home after 9:30 p.m. and it was still 85 degrees.

Titans had a great weekend -- volleyball winning all four, men's and women's soccer winning, and golf doing very well, too.  A great weekend to be a TITAN.

Next up, the big game with Wheaton.  Titans still pretty injury free -- knock on wood.  Love that defense, esp. the tough front four and Hassan at LB.  They play very well together.

I wouldn't say that at all. Every long-time Augie athletics fan that I've come across, without fail, has expressed his or her frustration with the decline of the Augie football program. Augie6 speaks for a whole lot of people in that regard. And I doubt that it's a matter of the athletics department bailing on making football a priority. Augie athletics fans have suggested that it comes from the top, which may be true. But when you look at the big money that's been poured into upgrading Ericson Stadium (including the construction of the adjacent Ken Anderson Center), it's hard to believe that the people who run the school have turned their backs on the football program. I think it's more a matter of coaching than anything else, since the quality of recruits for Augie just isn't what it used to be. Those west suburban prospects aren't making the drive down I-88 when checking out schools anymore.

Probably at the request of my alma mater. ;)

Not sure why but the Cards have moved ahead of Wheaton in this week’s Top 25.  Not sure either team did anything to move up or down, respectively.

I'm pretty sure it is because Wheaton lost a starting DT and C (preseason AA) likely for the year.

And that North Central put Millikin away early and Wheaton took until the 4th to put away Elmhurst.

IWU up one notch to #19.   Big game Saturday @ WC.

But it's also a pretty sure thing that the replacements for the dismissed players are pretty good players in their own right. Wheaton didn't replace those guys with Swiss cheese.

Hope not. That would lead to a lot of bad snaps and sacks.
