Performance and ranking of a defense is heavily dependent on how good the opposing offense is. Especially when you only have a few games under your belt.

Very true.  So, CardinalAlum, we held you to your lowest score of the season so far, but you also did the same to us.  I suspect your offense is considerably better than ours, but since you won, if you want top 4 when I claim top 5, I grant it! ;)

I was really surprised Elmhurst didn't have a better showing vs. Augie.   Rather sloppy play by the Jays cost them.    Elmhurst needs some guys to step up and make some plays.  Augie won this game on 3rd down,  executing and keep their drives going.   Congrats to IWU.  In the pick em's I actually had IWU upsetting Wheaton, not that I wanted it to happen, rather I had a hunch IWU's defense was going to rise to the occasion.

I didn't read thru pickems totally, but I think you may have been the only one.  I'd congratulate you, but then you had to spoil it with the next phrase! :o  (If I were participating this season, I might have picked the Titans just out of hope/homerism, but I fully expected a Thunder win.)  Oh, heck, congrats on your pick! ;D

And, yes, I think the Titan defense has gotta be among the top 5 in the country.

Does that mean NCC's has to be in the top 4 in the country?  😜

Actually, of 243 D3 teams, NCC currently ranks 56th in total offense. IWU is 160th.
In the total defense category, IWU is 52nd. NCC is 75th.

I'm friends with some of the Wheaton coaches, hence why I have an affinity towards them.  ;)     But,  after seeing some of Wheaton, I do think they can be vulnerable at times, and I guess more than hunch if anything, thought IWU had a good chance to upset.

I have not seen NC, but have to assume their defense is pretty sharp too.

Jaybird, NCC D is very good.  I was at the IWU-NCC game in Naperville and their second half performance was superb.  IWU played them straight up in the first half with the score tied, but one can say that the NCC D really dominated the game in the second half.  IWU couldn't do much.  IWU's O continues to improve, in a very Eash-controlled way.  Bauer is a money player, and the IWU receivers are improving game to game.  The IWU running back, Alexander, may in fact have the most yardage for the season in CCIW at the end of the day.  We'll see.  He has very good vision, darts here and there and often gets more yardage after initial contact.  IWU D is playing very well now -- esp. Hassan -- big challenge will be vs. MU air attack and also vs. Carthage.  Would be great to see my TITANS finish 9-1, pretty much beyond what we surmised at the beginning of the season.  I had them at 6-4 or 7-3.

The NCC-WC game is the big one remaining on the schedule, IMHO.  Like Q, I'll be cheering for Wheaton, "praying" that they pull it off.

Cooler evenings now, foliage changing on the IWU QUAD . . . starting to feel a bit like it might be time for basketball.  :)  Glad to hear the Titans got a new recruit, a 6'8", 240 lbs 5.  Much needed.

IWU Homecoming upcoming with the game vs. Carroll on October 14th.  Homecoming theme this time is "TITANS Around the World," so surely this global Titan must be there, attending Homecoming this year.  My 47th reunion.  Time flies when you're having fun.  :)

Go TITANS!

Good points IWU70.  Plus,  Wayne Messmer is going to sing the anthem at the FB.  What a thrill for all those attending.

100% guaranteed victory for the Cards?!  Come on now, you still have to play the game.

The Miracle on Ice is overrated.  We had a hot goalie.  Massey would have given us a 20% chance.

I dunno. What are the odds that a flu outbreak will cause a substantial percentage of the NCC two-deep to be bedridden on Saturday? That's basically NPU's only chance.

NCC 💯%, NPU 0%? Really? I don't think I've seen that before!

In answer to Greg's above question, based on a report I read yesterday, health officials say the flu has already arrived earlier than usual in some areas of the country and is expected to be more serious than usual this year with up to 4 different strains of flu infecting the public. With all the doorknobs NCC players touch each day, there seems the fairly remote possibility exists that at least one member of the Cardinals two deep comes down with a bug between now and Saturday.
Do you believe in miracles? As anythings possible, lets revise those odds accordingly;
NCC 99%, NPU 1%  :D  ;)

Yes, I think Messmer sings the national anthem at Homecoming, vs. Carroll  -- as he's the "Distinguished Alum of the Year."   He's giving several talks and speaking to classes too, that Friday/Saturday of Homecoming weekend.   Just by chance, I heard his radio show the other night -- on my way back from dropping a friend at O'Hare.  He's pretty smooth on the air -- a nice jazz show, very relaxed style for a Sunday night.

We're up to Augie first -- no CCIW road game is easy, so I hope there's no TITAN let down.  With this TITAN D, 9-1 is possible.

IWU's toughest remaining opponent is Carthage who they get at home. Seems like it should be a surprise if the Green Team doesn't finish the regular 🏈 season at 9-1. 😏
