Mr. Ypsi

matblake,

'Applause' to you!  I realized right after I posted that USC and Stanford would also definitely be in the mix, but didn't edit.  Are my other guesses (Michigan and Syracuse) at least in the top ten?  (Sorry, it's finals week, so I can't follow up your leads to find out myself!)

Ralph Turner

I am trying to find the answer of this one.

Most NFL Hall of Famers by D3 institution?

Hardin-Simmons has Bulldog Turner (no relation), a former player and Sammy Baugh, a former head coach.

Ypsi, sorry to disappoint, but I didn't keep an accurate top 10.  I just went from team to team and when I found a school with titles in more sports than the previous leader I put them on my list.  Therefore, not so accurate outside of the top 3 or 4 schools. I do remember that Michigan has 10 different titles.

Wally Wabash:

Oh yes, now I remember those names.  Thanks for the follow-up and checking that out for me.

Disappointing news from Elmhurst.
I have heard that Matt Smith who was EC's #2 back behind Luna, and presumably the "go to guy" for 2006, has quit the team and will not be playing this year.  Now we really have to have a strong recruiting season and the current players have to step it up.  Defense can only keep you in it so long.

That's too bad.  Luna was going to be tough to follow anyways.  He was such a key player for the Jays.  Who knows for sure though.  One of the things I love about d3 is that excellent players can seem to come out of nowhere.  I am sure that jaybird is praying for a Nate Kmic situation to happen to Elmhurst!

MattBlake-- You know it.  I am sure Journell and the Staff will find talent to rise to the occasion.  Big shoes to fill in Luna, but everybody is replaceable (the show must go on) and it takes 11 guys to work together.

Word I'm hearing... Wheaton has received commitment from a D-I QB transfer.  The name will be very familiar to those who keep an eye on high school football in the western suburbs of Chicago.

Very interesting Mugsy.  By the way you saved the day.  I was going to put the "(crickets chirping)" post in, but now I don't have to.  Doh, looks like I did anyway!

Mugsy-
What you've heard about the D-1 quarterback committment is true. He will be attending Wheaton in the fall.

matblake

Anon,  can you give us a source (ie newspaper etc.) regarding the transfer?  If true, I am sure that there will be a battle in Wheaton to be the starter.

I heard it from close friends who know the family of the transfer in question.  Pretty close source I'd say... I haven't confirmed it with anyone on the coaching staff nor do I know if it was 100% in stone yet, so I didn't want to come right out and say it was official and give a name.  I'll defer until it is posted on the school website or it becomes public knowledge (newspaper).

I did heard this QB looked at several other CCIW teams as well (North Central and IWU) before deciding on Wheaton.  I'd expect there to be open competition at the QB position.  I would doubt Swider & Hardy would come out and say anyone was the starter just yet.  I would assume it is Chupp's job to win or lose since he is the returning starter.

Regardless it is a nice position for Wheaton to be in - having a 2 year starter in Chupp (who had one excellent year, but struggled last year) and a very talented D-I transfer to either backup or come in as a starter.  Coming into the 2006 season, QB would have been somewhat of a question for me.  Which Chupp would Wheaton get?  Now this question doesn't loom as large as there will be some serious competition for the position.

Yikes... 6's wild. Post 666, karma at 6.  As someone graduating from a Christian school, I needed to get beyond that status. :P
