MatBlake and Mugsy~
The source is from the transfer himself. He indeed did look at other schools in the confrence but decided on Wheaton because he wants to play for Coach Swider. He is from the area and is very excited to be transfering to Wheaton. It is a 100% committment that he will be attending Wheaton. The QB job is Chupp's to lose but there will indeed be competition.

zorbadagreek

Enough with the speculation!! Who is this kid??

Mugsy

Zach Ullrich.

He led Wheaton North to the semi-finals a couple of years ago and was a scholarship player for Northern Illinois University.  He was a senior at Wheaton North with Pete Ittersagen, who was a transfer from Bulter last year and was 1st Team All-Conference DB for Wheaton last year as a freshman.

High quality athlete and from what I hear he is an incredible leader as well.  A very good recruit for Wheaton.

Thanks Anon and Mugsy.  Just trying to be careful with speculation.  This is an interesting development.  Anyone have an idea if this is a football related transfer or an academic or social transfer.  As we all know, there are many reasons for wanting to transfer.

matblake

Anyone know if/who Wheaton is scrimmaging this year?

I'll leave this to someone closer to "the story".  I'd suspect the desire to see more playing time probably factors into the equation at some point - to what level I don't know.  I strongly doubt it would be due to academic reasons, in terms of struggling at NIU.   If he were struggling at NIU, I doubt he'd be accepted at Wheaton.

Academic reasons don't have to be with regards to struggling in classes etc.  They might have to do with class size or a particular instructor/major.  Just trying to clarify what I was trying to say  ;D

In honor of reaching post 200, karma to posters on page 244 above this post.  No more pseudo-karma given by me!  ;D

Ullrich's desire to transfer has nothing to do with academics. His desire has to do with playing time as Mugsy suggested. He waited at Northern for his chance and went from second string to not looking like he was going to see much playing time. He wants to lead a team and play. Wheaton will be scrimmaging Wabash again this year.

Sounds like this is an exciting opportunity for  Wheaton.  Again, it takes 11 players working together so while Chupp or Ullrich are playing well, if the other 10 guys aren't then the plays won't work.  Glad to see another player leave D-1 and go to D-3  that's great. :D
Ullrich is not alone in wanting to play for Swider.  If you have ever met Swider you know how great a person he is and what a leader both on/off the field.  Swider like Krohn, is from the school that plays and leads with their hearts.

From Indiana and Michigan Newspaper.....

"The premier quarterback in southwest Michigan has decided where to attend college next season.

Shelby Wood from Berrien Springs has signed with North Park University in Chicago.  North Park is an NCAA Division III school.  Wood, who was the Tribune's Player of the Year in the fall, completed 153 of 238 for 2,487 yards and 31 touchdowns during his senior year."

NICE PICK UP FOR THE VIKES!

redman04

Sounds like a nice pick up for NPU.

Any of the redmen, not Red men, faithful know when they will play that team from California?  Its not posted on the schedule for next season.  Are we going out there first or are they coming to beautiful Kenosha Wisc first?  ???
HEY NORM, I LOST YOUR HAT! GO REDMEN!!!

irish21

I believe Coach Williams told me Whittier is coming to Kenosha first.

That game against Whittier should be interesting.  It's unlikely the CCIW has seen a game against a team that far west previously.  In recent years I am sure that it would have only been in the National Semi-Finals and we know how that has gone for teams not named Mt. Union recently.
