There was nothing even resembling a close game in the CCIW today. North Central tuned up for the playoffs by ripping Millikin to shreds, 55-12, in Naperville, and Wash U embarrassed Carroll down in the Gateway City by a 44-6 score.

Millikin was never in this game.  Rutter is on autopilot right now.  The defense is starting to play really well together.  Special teams have been very good.  Judka is as good of a kicker as we have had.  Looking forward to an expected  home playoff game next week.  Hoping we get another CCIW team in as well.

This one started TD-Punt-TD-Fumble-TD-Downs-TD.  It got ugly in a hurry, in spite of Nicco Stepina showing he's a pretty good dual-threat QB.

CardinalAlum, you need to update your sig. :)

Tough times to be an Elmhurst Alumn right now..... I was running a little late, got to the game at the end of the first Q and it was 30-0. I made it to halftime by then it was 51-0 and got on a dodge. No pride in the Bluejays, completely laid over, and quit. Embarassing.

Very nice of the ticket lady at Wheaton, she didnt charge me to enter.... I guess thats the one positive of the day.

Did any of the games today around the country give us a chance to get a 2nd CCIW team in?

Greg, thanks for the details on the first Q.  I only got to the video stream after it was already 13-0, so didn't see, hear about those early NPU TOs, early scores by the Titans.

Bauer was superb today, and his two big gun receivers both had big days.

I could tell you were holding back on the "running up the score" possibilities.  I'm sure Norm just wants to impress the selection committee, but I doubt it will help or in any way be enough, at 8-2.  Have to rue the first game, losing to UW LX on that last second FG.  We could'of, should'of, would'of been 9-1 had we won that one.  8-2 a good season for sure, Co-Champs of CCIW and all that, but I think pretty certain no bid at 8-2.

On to basketball, starting right away tomorrow vs. UC at The Shirk.

CCIW has no shot at pool C. The only "guarantee" from the North region is John Carroll. After that, Wabash is up. I'm not convinced they get in, they may be the first team out. After Bash, then Witt is up. IWU/Wheaton are the 4th and 5th options from the North... not gonna happen.

79-0 final from McCully Stadium.

Good grief. Tell me that there was at least a running clock in the fourth quarter.

Sadly, this one could have been worse. Wheaton fumbled going into the end zone in the first quarter.

Wheaton tallied 79 points and only finished seven yards above their season average in yards with 454. Wheaton only had to drive more than 65 yards once and their three punts came on drives that started outside their own 40. I'm not entirely unsure that they could've posted triple digits if it truly wanted to.

Classy move by Coach Swider and JJ Clark calling a timeout in the second half to bring all the defensive seniors off the field together and give them the recognition they deserve. Wheaton's defense finished the season giving up single-digit touchdowns (9) including none over the final 17 quarters of the season.
You win some, you lose some, and sometimes it rains.

Titan Q

I'm not sold that the North regional ranking order is going to stay the same. IWU and Wheaton both have better Pool C resumes than Wabash and Witt as I am looking at this.  At some point the North or the national committee has to talk about the big picture of Pool C and who is more competitive in that process.

I assume IWU is ahead of Wheaton due to the head-to-head result.  If they do put IWU ahead of Wabash and Witt, I think the Titans get picked.

Maybe the North stays with Wabash/Witt higher...but if they do, D3football.com says they are blocking the region from a Pool C after John Carroll gets picked.

Titan Q

Anyone know if/when we get the final regional rankings?

How many SOS points is an extra loss worth?

I don't think we know...don't think there is a black and white answer.

But here are the resumes, with teams listed in alphabetical order:

(SOS numbers are one game old)

* Illinois Wesleyan: 8-2, .588 SOS, 1-2 vs RRO (beat Wheaton, lost La Crosse, North Central)
* Wabash: 9-1, .484 SOS, 1-0 vs RRO (beat Wittenberg)
* Wheaton: 8-2, .606 SOS, 1-1 vs RRO (lost to IWU, beat North Central)
* Wittenberg: 9-1, .500 SOS, 0-1 vs RRO (lost to Wabash)

Seems to me like IWU and Wheaton have stronger Pool C resumes than both Wabash and Witt.

Pat Coleman

Repeating my response from Twitter, the North committee has shown no creativity in ordering teams to date and is laser focused on ordering teams first by number of losses.

Q,

I’m with you 100% and exactly why I asked the question above.  IWU resume deserving of a Pool C bid.  I can’t imagine a win over North Park helped the SOS at all but it shouldn’t matter.  I know USee has said it before, but scheduling a really tough out of conference game is a risk.  Scheduling games is a problem as not many schools want to play CCIW schools.  The WIAC will but it may bite IWU this year and it has gotten NCC in the past.  There is no upside to playing a top program out of conference.  It is a shame that a 2nd CCIW team looks to be on the outs.   The Wheaton team that beat us at home back in September was still the best team I have seen.  I don’t get that one.  Hoping for the best for Norm’s boys! (What am I saying?  :D)
