Who is Jeff McDonald? That's the next HC. His resume sticks out to me and his work at IWU, under Norm Eash, in a tough league to build a top 3 defense and keep it there has been impressive.

That's who I am going with.

GS, thanks for the reminder. Fixed

Heh!

Now, Elmhurst ... when do we see whether or not USee won the Daily Double?

Sounds like Elmhurst has found their man.... IWU DC Jeff McDonald. Good hire, wish it didnt take so long as I imagine this class will be a small one. Looking forward to what he can do at EC.

Still no confirmation from Elmhurst, so I imagine that Kevin Juday is probably still working on the press release.

I had heard from a few people within the Elmhurst community yesterday that the job had been offered to him - heard this morning that he accepted. His twitter now confirms!

Selfishly sad to see him go, but obviously well deserved and congratulations.

Elmhurst has added Seth Carson as the D-Coordinator.  Seth is a good man and should help bolster up the leadership on the D-side of the ball.

Raiding the IWU cabinet. Can't say I'm disappointed!

As an interesting footnote to NPU's recent coaching change, we may not have seen the last of Mike Conway in D3. Lindenwood-Belleville will be undergoing an exploratory year for D3 membership in 2019-20. That's a long way away from LUB actually joining D3, but it's now a real possibility. Incidentally, Dakota Conway has joined his dad on the LUB coaching staff after having spent the past two seasons as the DB coach at Geneva.

I wonder if a haka will ever be performed again at Holmgren Field.

Students in Christchurch NZ performed one yesterday.  https://www.theguardian.com/world/video/2019/mar/18/students-perform-haka-to-pay-tribute-to-classmates-killed-in-christchurch-video  Extremely moving!

Technically, it's a siva tau, not a haka. I don't claim to understand the nuances in terms of differences between the two, other than the fact that the siva tau is Samoan and the haka is Maori. For all I know, there could be a vast number of subtle distinctions between the two -- after all, even though Samoan and Maori are both Polynesian cultures, American Samoa and New Zealand are separated by 2,000 miles of water and at least 3,000 years of mutual isolation. Or perhaps they're just the same thing with a different name in a different culture, like the fact that an eggplant in the U.S. is an aubergine in Britain, or what we call a movie theater is called a kino in Germany.

One thing I do know is that I'll miss the North Park siva tau if it goes the way of the Cranny, Wallgren Library, and the Homecoming Beard King.

Gregory:

I somehow missed this before, however, interesting to see that Mike Conway and his son are now at LUB as you mentioned. You might recall late last year when I mentioned my friend/colleague John Leister, (former Mich State QB, and pro QB NFL,USFL, then Boston Redsox pitcher, and more recently former AD/OC and HC baseball at Alma College) had left LUB after two seasons as QB coach and I was trying to locate him(which I was able to eventually get in touch with him.)

Anyway, LUB, despite having had two very rough seasons the last two years (that's putting it mildly), has great a.goid chance at turning into a good program, with a new staff of accomplished assistants such as Conway. They hAve very nice facilities ( nice stadium for a small college program and while that, of course, does not make a program, it dies help in recruiting.

As you say, it will be a challenge and also interesting to see what transpires with their exploratory period as to possible DIII transition. But, I think they would be a good fit with our division, if they chose to do so. I wish them well as they do well as they move forward.

The key for Lindenwood-Belleville would be to find a D3 home for the 30 sports that the school offers. The SLIAC is the logical main home for LUB, given that the school is in the St. Louis metro area, but that league only sponsors about half of the sports that LUB offers. (Some of those sports, such as men's rugby, men's and women's cheerleading, and women's stunt, won't find a home anywhere in D3, anyway, since D3 doesn't sponsor championships in those sports and I don't think that there's any D3 leagues that do, either.) Of course, this is a football board, so the pertinent issue here is where the Lynx football team would go. The UMAC seems like the logical choice; current SLIAC members Greenville, MacMurray, and Westminster (MO) are already UMAC associate members for football, so playing LUB in football would be relatively local games for the Panthers, Highlanders, and Blue Jays. Plus, the UMAC currently only has nine teams, so adding LUB would make it an even ten.
