Yes, the pass coverage was a downfall on that last St. John's drive.

A great game Thunder fans.  It hurts to lose, trust me I know, but a strong program like yours will live through the adversity.  It was a heart stopper of a game and emotions ran high.  So did the effort.  The teams put out their best efforts and the boys left everything on the field.  You can't ask for anything more.

It was a great week sparing with you folks and I look forward to more in the years to come.  Great year, Thunder.

Great football game Thunder fans. You have a lot to be proud of from this Johnnie since 1953.

Blame it on the freight train.

Crazy.  The train usually is a good omen for Wheaton.  What a crazy ending!!

Had the unsportsmanlike penalty not happened, I wonder if Wheaton would have gone for 2?

And if Wheaton hadn't been penalized for illegal substitution resulting in offsetting penalty during the roughing the kicker, they would have been back at the 2 yardline again.

Swider has a history of doing so, and Wheaton was quite effective running the ball - particularly in the 2nd half.  I think he goes for it.

Wouldn't the penalty been half the distance to the goal?

They're going to be talking about this game forever in Wheaton, and no doubt they'll call it "the spike game".

My heart goes out to Jake Hibben, who went from hero to goat in the space of about two seconds. He may never live it down. But you've gotta know the rules -- spiking the ball after a TD is a no-no. Being an offensive lineman who rarely or never touches the ball is no excuse.

Nice job on color as always, USee. I had both CCIW games on, so for listening purposes I had to choose between two good tandems: Rusty and you, or Kevin Jackman and Grant Sabo for the NCC game. I listened to you guys for most of the way because your game was more competitive, although I did switch over to Kevin and Grant for awhile when the Aggies made that third-quarter rally to get within a FG of the Cardinals.

Great season Wheaton. That's the sort of matchup you wish could be a best of 3 series.
Two excellent teams.

Congratulations to NCC as well- continue the roll.

Yep, your right.  So... we'll back it down to if the unsportsmanlike penalty hadn't occurred.

St. John's has mega kicking issues and I think Erdmann gets less scary as the field condenses.  Not saying he wouldn't have gone for two or that I wouldn't have loved to see it (I find the 2-pointer-to-win at the end of regulation or in OT to be the most exciting play in football), but I think OT favored Wheaton ever so slightly.

After watching it a second time, I'm not sure they HAD to throw that flag.  It's not like he Gronk-slammed that ball into the turf.  I'm not saying it was a bad call, just saying that I don't think it would have been horrible to let that one go.

Asking a general question here, how was 12 men on the field not a dead ball foul and marked off before the kick?
