82card

Hey all, I'm new to the board, and I would just like to say that I am really looking forward to this upcoming season. Also, I can understand how Kniss and Bellazzini were not chosen. I just hope that they can show that they deserve to be on the post-season team. I do know that Bellazzini was hurt when the team went to Italy. I hope that it does not affect this season for him.

82card,

Are you a player presently on the team?  It appears that way.

From Wheaton's season preview, Coach Swider mentions a new wrinkle in the offense that was rarely used in the Coach Bishop's scheme over the years - the tight end.

That brings up another "unknown" aspect to keep an eye on for Wheaton.  With the retirement of Coach Bishop, how effectively will the offense adapt to the new schemes and play calling of Coach Hardy.  How significant will the changes be to scheme?  I don't expect sweeping changes, but each O-coordinator has his own philosophies and it is hard to replace a coach of the caliber of Coach Bishop.

Personally I do favor offenses that make use of tight ends...

The tight end position was a money maker for UWW last season.  Just one of their many offensive weapons....and you can never have too many.  Pete Schmidt is one of the top TE's in D-3 in my humble opinion.  It could be a plus for Wheaton especially if they have some under-used talent at that position.
"Of course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong!"  Dennis Miller

"Three things you don't want to be in football, slow, small and friendly!"  John Madden

"You can learn more character on the two-yard line than anywhere else in
life." Paul Dietzel / LSU

Long time no post.  I've been locked away in a dungeon studying for the bar exam.  Anyone know of anyone looking to hire an attorney?  I've got some loans to pay off!

Can't wait to actually watch a few games this year.
"Facts are meaningless. You could use facts to prove anything
that's even remotely true!"   Homer Simpson.

The Elmhurst/UW Whitewater scrimmage will be mostly script, with maybe 20% live plays.  The Coaches are going to have designed plays and be focusing on certain elements during each play.  So it won't be 'live" and nothing even close to what you will see on September 2 for the opener. (From either side)
Still, I think this will be good for Elmhurst to get a taste of what a Championship Level Team will bring in size, strength, and looks.
Scrimmaging UWW is much better than scrimmaging CURF which we did when I was there.

I think this is pretty much status quo for all scrimmages.  I remember my first year at Wheaton I went to the scrimmage.  Because I was unfamiliar with the team, the scrimmage showed me essentially nothing.  Needless to say, with Bart Moseman, Devin Leftwich, and Kermit Ellison I was hooked at the first game.

The funniest thing at scrimmages is to watch the special teams portion e.g. 21 players going about 1/10,000 speed and the punter taking it very seriously.

Two days without a post.  Had to put something in here.  I'm sure this is just the calm before the storm.  Camps start up soon, the info should get flowing again then.

The Carthage season preview is up on their page.  Lots and lots of information listed, including a pretty good detailing of last year and last year's injuries.  Coach Rucks seems reserved about both the offense and defense, but appears to be excited about this years recruiting class/transfers.

Incidentally, some of the Carthage fans' fears are coming true.  Look at the logo at the top left.  Looks like the College is pushing that flame logo again.

The Augustana preview is also up on their webpage.  The link is way too long so since it is also in the Season Preview Section on D3Football.com I used that link.

Looks like the CCIW and the NWC are tied with the most conference previews already submitted to Pat and the rest of the gang.

Matblake--I noticed that too on Carthage's website.  I liked the old logo with the 2 feathers, and wished Carthage would have kept that logo. Oh well.  I think Carthage will have a strong defense,  don't know about their offense.
Dave Wrath always does a great job providing a detailed description of Augie (and for that matter every CCIW story)  football.

would you consider 23 years with no Tight End "under used"?  :-\

and before all my fellow wheaton critics remind me of wheatons use of the TE over the last couple years they must first answer the question of how many passes has a player lined up in the tight end position at wheaton caught in the last 23 years?
