I can think of 1...

Zac Moffit "reaching out with both hands" (imagine an "ALL FIRED UP" Pat Benatar singin' that) in the corner of the end-zone to make a spectacular catch in a thrilling 16-12 CRUSADER win over the Augie Doggies in 1996.

That may have been his only catch all year.

That was a great game.  Wheaton had beaten Augie for the first time in umpteen years in 95 so the Vikings were out for revenge, especially being at home.  The weather was picture perfect that day, including that comfortable early fall temperature.  Both sides played hard with a great performance by the Wheaton D led by Chip Parrish.

On a side note, a friend of mine and I went to the Arsenal Museum in Rock Island before that game.  Very interesting and just about every shape and size of handgun on display.  There were these big books in front of each display so that you could locate the name of the weapon because the display was so full of them they could only use a labeling system instead of a card displaying the full name of the weapon.  If it is still open (which would be a shame if they closed it) I would recommend it for anyone.  If I remember correctly, it's not too far from the campus either.

All right, the NFL players report to camp, August is approaching, and soon we can get back to D-3 Football!
Lakeshore, glad to see CCIW Alums continuing to play football.
Any word(s) on the pressbox at Art Keller Field?  Has anybody seen the finished product?  If so,  how does it look?

Not much to talk about during the summer, so I'm just posting to see if my bad karma carried over to the new board. FB will soon be here, and I think the CCIW is as balanced as I ever remember it. No more big 4 and little 4, as there are no sure victories for anyone in the conference except possibly the NPU games, and they are going to be improved this year.

Comet 14

When do all the season outlooks come out for the CCIW? I am looking forward to finding more out about the teams in the conference, especially Elmhurst

Comet 14

Bluejay- what time is the scrimmage with Whitewater and how long do they last? Our highschool has it's first game Sat. night and we need to get back to Sterling by 6 p.m.

Comet14-  I haven't heard the time of the scrimmage.  My guess would be around 1 or 2pm.  I know the date is Saturday August 26 @ UWW.  When I played our scrimmages were typically a couple of hours.  If I hear of a time, I will let you know.  Hypothetically, if the srimmage was at 1 or 2, you could stay for an hour/hour and a half, and have plenty of time to make it back home for the hs game.
I talked to former EC RB Eric Luna this morning and we both agree that finding a sturdy running back is the #1 concern on offense.  With Smith out of the equation,  I am curious to see who stands up to fill the void.

Comet14-  One other thing. About season outlooks.  Many of the CCIW schools have an outlook on their websites.  I know Augie and Wheaton have very good, detailed descriptions.  All of the schools will have an outlook as we approach the September startup dates.

Comet, you can also check out season previews on the front page in the season preview section.  That way, you can get a handle on the non-conference opponents too.  There is about 15 on there now, but more will start rolling in the closer to camp that we get.

Hello everyone

I have read this board for a few years on and off and have decided to start posting a little.  As someone who lived in Decatur for years I am a little disappointed that not many Big Blue posters seem to ever be around.

With that said I hope none of you have thoughts of successful Saturday's for you respective teams when Nate Wallick, Joey Albin, and Chris Katzmark roll into town this fall.

Hey Ditka,

It's nice to see someone supporting Milikin. I know Milikin is always a tough game especially down in Decatur. Although, Augie did have some success shutting down Wallick et all last season in Decatur if I remember correctly they shut them out(The last time Millikin failed to score in a game was 1997 when Augustana won 18-0) Taken from Milikin's website. Now, I'm not saying that will happen again this season........, but I'm having thoughts of Augie being successful against Milikin. I know I'm somewhat of a Homer, but Wallick hasn't lit up Augie's D like he has against other schools.

Augiefan:

I'll bring you back into the positive side for karma.  However, even with the improvement of teams from the bottom 4 IMO there is still a Big 4 Little 4 split.  Until a team consistently beats another team, Augie and Wheaton will head the Big 4 while NCC, Carthage, and Elmhurst will be fighting to stay up there with Milikin not too far behind.

Mr. Ypsi

The traditional 'big 4' (for at least a generation) was Augie, IWU, Millikin, and Wheaton (in alphabetical order).

While Augie and Wheaton have remained at (or near) the top, the 'big 4, little 4' model of the 80s and 90s has been blown to smithereens.

matblake

I think in any size conference you always have the big 4 little 4 breakdown.  There are 8 teams in the CCIW.  If our conference had 10 teams we would be talking about a big 5 and little 5.  The teams may change around but there are always going to be some teams that rise to the top and some that falter.
