In Decatur:

IWU 28
Millikin 38

Millikin went out to a 32-0 lead in the 2nd quarter and held on to defeat the Titans.

Further details from the NPU @ EU game on Saturday:

* Vikings senior QB Grant Borsch was 30-39 for 305 yards, 2 TDs, and 0 INT.

* Vikings junior RB Michael Soracco carried the ball 16 times for 86 yards (5.4 ypc) and a pair of TDs. Nick Del Nodal, a sophomore RB who transferred from Carthage this year, had 29 yards in four carries.

* Vikings sophomore WR Stefan Giminski made six catches for 65 yards and a TD.

* Ten different receivers caught passes for North Park.

* The Vikings defense had seven tackles for loss, four sacks, three forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery.

The fact that interests me the most is that 12 of Kyle Rooker's 22 starters were either freshmen or sophomores, while all 22 of the Elmhurst starters were upperclassmen. I can appreciate the reasons why the likes of North Central and Wheaton wanted to hold off on participating in football this spring, but the flip side is that, for a program like North Park, 2021 spring football is giving a lot of valuable playing time to a large number of underclassmen who can really use it.

Especially if it's an exhibition game -- if it doesn't even count on your W-L record, get guys reps!

The Titans have a really nice offensive weapon in Lucas Segobiano (transfer from D1 Northern Illinois) - listed as a RB, but they're using him as a WR.  Can be used in a lot of ways offensively.

RB Hamid Bullie has a chance to have a big senior season next year.

DL Mike Murphy is a stud.  He is a senior and I'm assuming this is it for him.  If he were to return next season somehow, that would be huge for the Titans.

IWU is starting FR Sage Shindler at QB in this short season.  I think it's possible the Titans starting QB next year is current HS senior Ryan Saxe (Fremd HS).  https://www.hudl.com/video/3/9549472/5d7d479a5ef708116c2a9192

I think these games, and all of the practice that has gone with them, is going to really help the Titans for next season.  I'm glad they decided to play.  It will be a really short off-season.

I think these games give several teams great opportunities to develop younger talent. For IWU, according to Eash, their strength is their OLine. I would be concerned that they rushed for 40 yds against Millikin and that Bullie and co rushed for 103 yds against Augie on 33 attempts. That's not much production from and area of proclaimed strength. That said, it's March and there are a lot of other agenda items on coaches list to accomplish in these pre-season games.

I have admittedly not seen either of these games, but it would seem there could be a couple very logical explanations for this which you even allude to.  First, if these are being treated as glorified scrimmages, game planning could very well be more focused on development of certain plays, sets, etc and not necessarily focused on a true game plan.  Secondly, the Titans are starting a freshman QB with little experience that defenses could simply be overloading the run on.  If anyone has actually seen any of the games and can comment to that, I have no insight but this would seem to make complete sense.

I didn't see either game but given they started their experienced OLine from the box score, passed it 35 times and rushed 40x (giving it to Bullie 27x) I would be concerned about the running game at this point since that should a position of strength for the Titans. For example, Murphy is a known entity and he has been producing at a high level through 2 games.

Guys, you are my friends so I wanted you to know my wife Charmaine passed away last night. She had been sick so I'm glad she's no longer suffering, but my world is upside down and inside out right now. I usually try to keep religion off of here, but I will say I'm glad she knew Jesus. She would always ask what I was doing on the computer and then knowingly complete the sentence, "Just checking out the D3boards."

I am so sorry to hear that, matblake. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family -- and when I say "thoughts and prayers" I mean both, sincerely.

I send my sincerest sympathy to you . I am so sorry to hear this news and I will be keeping you in prayer.  You do not need to apologize for sharing your faith here-it is relevent to share here regardless of anyone's own beliefs. I realize there isn't anything that any of us can say for true comfort to you at this time. However, I would just encourage you to remember all the good times you had with your wife and know that you will definitely see her again some day.

Mat,

I wish, as I'm sure we all do, that there was something I could say to take some of your pain away.
Just remember, Charmaine is still walking with you. She may no longer be right next to you, but because of the love you shared and continue to share, she is only one lane over.  😇
