I applaud the Millikin enthusiasm and I would like nothing better than for the Big Blue to take a step up into the top of the conference. It would be a great thing for our conference. I do think Millikin is going to be good on defense, especially if all the folks you say are returning actually come back.

In 2019 Millikin averaged 9.6 TFL in 10 games (96 total), the best in the conference I believe. Wheaton averaged 8.6 TFL (112 total). Millikin averaged 2.7 sacks per game (27 total) and Wheaton average 3.05 (40 total). Millikin is more of a stunting defense so TFL against runs are more common. Wheaton plays a read and react (except McRae who just goes) so it makes sense.

In terms of the top guys returning:

Millikin:
Jaqan Harrell 13.5 TFL/4 sacks
Jordan Telez 11 TFL/7 sacks
Ryan Wimmer 9 TFL/3 sacks
Total:   33.5 TFL/14 sacks (10 games)

Wheaton:
Dallas McRae 18.5 TFL/8.5 sacks
Jake Holiday 15 TFL/5.5 sacks
River Shindledecker 12 TFL/7 sacks
Total:  45.5 TFl/ 21 sacks (10 games)

Of the 39 players listed on Millikin's 2021 roster, Telez and Wimmer are not on there. Harrell is listed as a LB. Also from

I see one of their incoming newbies is a former D1 QB recruit, I don't think any playing time.  It looks like he took some time away from school - glad to see him going back to continue his education and possibly get a chance to get on the field.

That's really impressive by the NP coaches.  I know keeping them on campus is the key but to start in triple digits is a step in the right direction for the Vikings!

The real step in the right direction for NPU is quality, not quantity -- or maybe quantity-of-quality, given the injury attrition inherent in this sport. School presidents and admissions directors love triple-digit rosters, and I certainly understand the need for that at a tuition-driven school with a lopsided women-to-men undergrad ratio, but you're not really serving the purpose of winning by handing uniforms to a slew of guys who have no business being on a CCIW football field and never will.

Fingers crossed that NPU is developing quality -- and thus leading the way to quantity-of-quality -- with this incoming crop.

Augie has posted their 2021 roster (no freshmen): 138 players: 23 GR, 23 SR, 39 JR, 53 So.

They have, by far, done the best job of retaining players through the pandemic (based on rosters currently posted). Augie is bringing back a lot of experience from a 6-4 team in 2019.

USee,

As I reviewed Augie's roster, it is exactly the same as the 2020 roster, so I don't think the posted roster is accurate.  It looks like they just transitioned the 2020 roster over to 2021 as it has the same names, numbers and order.  I would be shocked if they are bringing back every senior from last year and, from what I've heard, that isn't happening. In addition, there is usually a pretty good drop off of players from their freshman to sophomore years, so 53 So.'s would be a huge number.  If you add in a typical freshman class on top of those numbers, that would mean Augie has about 200 players on the roster, and after seeing some pictures of the first couple days of camp, I don't think that's the case.  Hopefully, they update the roster soon, so we have a better idea of what the numbers look like for Augie.

Augie6,
Do you know if Sam & Scott Tumilty will be on the 2021 Augustana roster? I remember seeing an article that the brothers will be playing football for the Vikings, but a google search resulted in seeing that Sam ran track & field for College of DuPage this past spring. Just curious...

Thanks. That makes sense. It's always a challenge using rosters to figure out returning players and with no season last year for many teams, players sitting out to come back, COvid concernse, etc it's particularly hard to get a feel for who is going to be good this coming year.

Many teams are mostly made up of players no one has ever seen play.

Next Man Up

Hopefully, we'll soon see the 2021 rosters posted for the Central and South DuPage county teams. Lots of anticipatory interest especially with regard to just what fourth and fifth (Covid) year seniors will be returning for the two squads.
With regard to the open NCC QB position which many have inquired about, I'm hearing that a strong possibility is a player who would likely have been a prime candidate had the Cardinals not made the decision to forgo the 2020 season. Of course this is someone who has not as yet appeared on the NC FB roster—another of those USee referred to as a player no one has seen play.
I think this possibility has a lot of merit as the info comes from a highly placed source whose finger is consistently firmly placed on the pulse of NCC 🏈.
