Today:

Carroll 34, North Park 26 played south of the Cheddar Curtain
Elmhurst 28, Millikin 7 at Langhorst Field
North Central 64, Carthage 13 played north of the Cheddar Curtain
Wash U 38, Illinois Wesleyan 22 in St. Louis

...Or for the cynical (with tongue firmly planted in cheek):

We're like when dad left, but then came back 34, Eighty-one straight conference losses was actually the 'things are looking better' era 26
The worst team in the history of the CCIW 28, the worst place in the history of the CCIW 7
Another twenty straight wins and we'll catch Augie in the all-time series 64, the Illinois Wisconsin-based Redmen Red Men Firebirds who totally don't have a branding challenge 13
We're kinda like a step-sibling from the brainier side of the family tree 38, How's it going, Norm? 22
Hey, where'd the bell go!?!?! 45, We love the eighties 0

Seems likely that it won't be the most pleasant ride home for Millikin after losing 28-7 to previously winless Elmhurst.
So young hero, ask yourself............................Do you want to go to college, get a good education, and play (basketball)(football), or do you want to go to college, get a good education, and watch (basketball)(football)? 🤔 😏

At least they get to prep for IWU

What a heartbreaker at Hedstrand today. The Vikings were trailing 27-0 going into the fourth quarter, mostly because they fell flat on two trips inside the Carroll 10 in the third quarter (turnover on downs and a lost fumble) and a third drive that got inside the Carroll 30 in the 3rd before coming up empty. But in the fourth quarter the Vikings finally started finishing drives in a big way. They scored four touchdowns, although Carroll got one back in response, and, after a successful onside kick following the final touchdown, the Vikings marched down to the Carroll 12 with a handful of seconds left and a legit shot to send the game into OT and create a Homecoming miracle. Alas, it was not to be. A high snap led to a Pios fumble recovery, and NPU winds up on the short end of a one-score game for the second week in a row.

NPU outgained Carroll, 527-463, which is no consolation, and won the turnover battle as well. A.J. Harris had 11 catches for 245 yards, the third-highest total in Vikings history, and Matt Eck -- who didn't even get into the game until the last three minutes of the second quarter -- went 26-51 through the air for 426 yards, 3 TDs, and no INTs.

Wheaton defense was pretty dominant in their 45-0 victory. The offense was sloppy and special teams still a problem in the early going but the Thunder rode a strong 3rd quarter to a convincing victory. Some highlights:

Augie had 145 total yds (15 yds rushing) and had 95 yds total at the end of the 3rd quarter (-7 yds rushing) when the starters went out
Jake Holladay is having the kind of year Dallas McCrae had in 2019 when he was D3DPOY. There isn't a better pair of DT's anywhere in D3
The Thunder rushed for 257 yds and are averaging over 240 yds a game on the ground. I have not seen a better RB than Giovanni Weeks this year. He is a special player with speed and toughness.
Wheaton had their first 2 turnovers of the year today. 1 fumble and 1 INT. They have been very good with the ball this season.

Carroll is up next, in Waukesha.

The projected rise of the Big Blue seems to have been premature. Carl Pohrte was 12-25 for 136 yds and 1 TD (2 INT) and Millkin managed just 47 yds rushing. Elmhurst scores 28 pts despite managing just 201 yds of total offense.

Go-o-o-o-llee! 245 yards in receptions.
Shazam!! 26/51 for 426 yards, and 3 TDs  with no INTs in ONE HALF (or less).

Despite a loosing effort, both of these guys look like strong candidates for the D3 Team of the Week.

Wash U now appears to be the best bet to finish in the 3 spot.  Some head scratchers today.  Kudos to North Park for continuing to battle every week.  Norm, Norm, Norm..... is it time for the Weenies to find their next coach?  Curious where the Big Blue went sideways with all of the expectations and starters returning?  Wheaton playing for their playoff lives every week and have to continue this way.

Cards got the job done up on the lakefront.  The back to back player of the week for Carthage found this game just a bit tougher than the last two as Lowe was 11-26 for 130 yards, 1 TD, 2 INT's.  Cards had a big day of offense.  Lehnen had a nice day.18-25 for 353 yards, 3 TD's, 0 INT's.  Elmhurst comes calling  to Naperville next week.

Long Time D3 football post reader. Just wanted to weigh in on my Titans.

It looks like a disappointing season on the gridiron with no real hope of any possible recovery. Especially feel bad for a couple guys who were part of the building blocks of some of the brighter days of Titan football under Norm and have sons on the current roster. I'm sure they didn't envision their sons having an experience like this. Troy Bozarth and Brian Tencza were great Titan players. who were part of some great Titan teams in the early 90s.

Although the spring was not a real season, we should have learned a few things that were concerning. A loss to Millikin and a 12-0 win vs Augie, doesn't give me much confidence with the remainder of our schedule: Millikin, North Central, North Park, Wheaton & Augie. How many wins do you see on that list? Add that to the current 1-3 conference record and Norm just might tie for the most CCIW losing seasons (11) by any coach. Looking at conference games is a pretty good way to compare guys success rates (everyone is playing the same schedule and you don't count the non-conference cupcakes that guys can schedule) Most guys don't last long enough to get that many losing conference seasons.

Take heart True, I don't think they'll lose them all:)

No, but if they lose 2, they end up 4-5 in the league and that is a losing record. You think they can avoid that?

You would have to be crazy enough to believe that getting a Coronavirus vaccination would make you eat your children to believe the Weenies could avoid that.  🤯  ::)

"Eat your children" lol. You'd have to be a nut job to believe that! The vaccine simply allows the government to track us (very needed to keep us safe), dulls our thoughts like chemical shock therapy to make it more difficult to oppose the Great Reset (We all have to be on the same page to create a society of complete economic uniformity), lessens the chance of pregnancy, and shortens our life (population control is essential for survival of the human race).  All completely reasonable goals and worthy of a mandate.    "Eat your children"! Ha!  there are some real crazies out there aren't there?
