What about cookies Mugsy? That's a little more up my alley. :)

I've heard about April's famous cookies over on the CCIW Hoops board.  Yum! :)

Mugsy, while I understand you taking this upon yourself, allow me to encourage you to look at the facts from another perspective. Football is team sport and not one play or player is solely responsible for a win or a loss.  There certainly was ample oportunities during the rest of the game for other players to step up, make different decisions, make plays, not make their mistakes and prevent the score from being that close to begin with.  It is like the goalie in a soccer game who allows a goal in an overtime shoot-out  resulting in a loss. Every player on the team had opportunities to make better plays and prevent the game from coming down to shoot -out in the first place. That is why they call it a Team Sport.  Wow, that sounds like a lecture....sorry.....but that is a pet pieve of mine...thinking that a game is won or lost by what happens in the closing minutes.  Alot of playing happens between the starting whistle and the final buzzer!

footballfan,
Thanks for the perspective re-alignment.  I thought about the same thing as I went out for a jog.  While I was responsible for the TD, other plays could have been made to change the outcome.  That is why every play counts.

it's "ull-rich" not "ull-rick"

Thanks for the clarification.  From your email address, obviously a Wheaton North receiver, former or current?

Now you guys all have me feeling bad!  Ok, I'm all for recreating the play.  We'll run it the other way and that way the responsibilty switches sides!  Seriously, and I tell people this all the time, Wheaton was always an incredibly physical team to play against.  They were always well coached and ready to play.  Augie was in their glory years back then and Millikin was always tough as well, the conference was as tough then as it is today and will remain so.   This is great D3 football being played in this conference.  Enjoy it! :)

Not to worry guys... I'm not that fragile.   While I remember that play, it did not define my career or in anyway taint my experience.

I echo your sentiments, CardAlum... D3 football is where it is at and the CCIW is a blast to be a part of and watch.

I'll agree with you there Mugsy, There is nothing like CCIW football on Saturdays in the fall, whether you are a player, a former player, or even just a fan.  I especially love the ooohhhs and aahhhhs when they announce another CCIW score during your teams game.

I like that part when the announcer lists the scores too.  In blowout situations, I have wished that I could be at a closer matchup.

Also funny is to watch half the crowd cheer and half the crowd groan no matter if they announce that Notre Dame is winning or losing.

Mugsy and CardAlum are right.  Nothing like attending a football game involving a CCIW school.  Even though I decided to hang up my pads after high school (5' 9", 165 lbs. and like a 10 second 40 will do that to you) I always had that twinge of excitement as though I was part of the team.

Whew!!  All this talk about the Little Brass Bell... one would think the Wheaton/NC game is this upcoming weekend.  ;D    Traveling trophies are nice and I wish there were more in the CCIW.  I like the Little Brass Bell, however I also like the Cortaca Jug between Cortland St./Ithaca.
Somebody mentioned NC playing Benedictine.  Much like Elmhurst, I would agree that NC doesn't benefit from playing Benedictine.  This is  nothing against Benedictine, I just think they are at different levels right now.
Getting closer and closer to kickoff Saturday.

LOL... CardinalAlum, you kill me!  For one of us, those would make for some low-fat cookies.

The best traveling trophy game is definitely the Monon Bell.  The distaste that Wabash and DePauw have for each other is truly unmatched.

There are plenty of reasons that a team gets on a schedule.  With 7 conference games and most likely 2 games that are on contract from previous years sometimes you just have to schedule whomever you can get a game with.  However, it looks like NC has played Benedictine in their first game of the year since 1999.  Elmhurst has played Benedictine every year in the same time frame.  My guess is this match-up has more to do with proximity than anything else.

79jaybird

I don't know about NC and Carthage's record/relationship with Benedictine, however I can tell you that Elmhurst is 20-10 all time vs. Benedictine.  I would venture to guess that proximity is the main reason these two schools have played 30 times.  Also, most of the 30 contests were opening day games.
I understand geography plays a big part, but I think all 8 CCIW schools are (at this moment) more advanced than Benedictine or Conc. Chicago.
