Division 1 games located in the central time zone routinely start at 11 AM for TV and ESPN knows that. That can't be the reason.

It's probably something that makes even less sense.
Agree Izzy.  Must mean that NCAA had Mount ranked higher than NCC on their board.  The Cardinals will have every opportunity to show the NCAA the error of their ways next week in Alliance.

I went to check the numbers. Mount had a slightly higher SOS (.535 to .521), but NCC was 3-0 vs RRO (#3,5,8 in Region 5) compared to Mount's 2-0 (#4,5 in Region 4). And if that's considered really close, wasn't recent playoff history supposed to come into play?

Make it make sense.

That's a big ask.
Time zone? BS reason
Better TV Venue?  BS reason
Mount ranked ahead of NCC: Double BS reason.

I hope one of the two D3 podcasts can induce someone to come out of the NCAA Ivory Tower and answer a question or two.  I don't have a horse in the race on that side of the bracket, but any decent person has to be troubled by injustice.  Unless I hear a valid explanation I can't conceive right now, this is a colossal injustice!

I really hope so, I want someone to justify out loud how North Central isn't hosting. Other than NC being physically unable to host for some reason or this being a mistake like the ASC being in Region 6 there is no way to justify it.

That's asking a lot from a bunch of Neanderthals standing around with their heads up their asses, Cru.
Screw the political correctness. Time to tell it like it is.
So young hero, ask yourself............................Do you want to go to college, get a good education, and play (basketball)(football), or do you want to go to college, get a good education, and watch (basketball)(football)? 🤔 😏

Don't surround yourself with yourself. 🧍🏼‍♂️(Yes)

I feel really bad for the parents of the NCC players.  Making 2 trips to Ohio in less than a week probably isn't possible for many.  So do you risk potentially missing your son's last game if they lose to Mount or do you risk missing the National Championship game?

So I had heard at the end of NCC's basketball doubleheader tonight that there's a big wrestling meet next weekend at NCC, but that's taking place at Res-Rec a couple buildings down. And back in the day when we used to host a Tip Off Tournament, between games and during halftimes I was able to literally walk across Championship Plaza, into B-W, and go catch a few minutes of a playoff game. So this isn't a "NCC had to refuse hosting rights" thing. I also heard from someone in our sports information office that their Mount Union counterparts were just as surprised as anyone that they were getting to host.

I'm just waiting for the statement, even though it's probably going to piss me off more.

I'm waiting for someone to ask if the NCAA is trying to ensure higher attendance in Canton on 12/17/21 by paving the way for the hometown heroes into the Championship game.  Sound nefarious?  Let's keep an eye on the officiating in Alliance next week.  If it is anything like what we saw in Naperville today, we will know the answer to the question, won't we?

Does the NCAA save travel $ if MT plays in Stagg vs. NCC?

I'm not sure if the bus rates are different by distance, but from my house just a few miles down the road from NCC to Tom Benson Stadium is 421 miles, so we're well within the 600 mile rule and they don't have to send NCC on a plane...

Ice Bear

Ice says he does understand some of the frustration over the way the tourney is set up. Ice says as a die hard East Region (Ice apologizes NCAA...Region 1 and 2 fan) he believes there are some very very "good" teams out this way. Ice says that with that being said the East simply does not, and has not, had a team, and certainly not any teams (Ice going plural here) that are in the top 2 tiers of D3 (minus maybe a Muhlenburg, who Ice really considers an East Region team based on location). Ice really does understand the frustration as he believes, while he loves him some LL teams with all his heart, RPI would have lost to both Bethel and Wheaton by two or more scores. Ice believes this most certainly has to do with the fiscally anal NCAA's constant drive to save $ on their red headed step child...(yes this is a reference to their lack of caring for D3 sports).

Ice Bear is also quite surprised that North Central is on the road. Ice hopes they dig deep, use this as some serious motivation for it being the obvious slap in the ****ing grill that it is, and ****ing homogenize the Purple Raiders like milk next week and move onto the Stagg with a HUGE chip on their shoulder.

Mount is located within 25 miles of the competition site (16.6 miles from Mount to the HOF in Canton), so the savings would be substantial.

I don't understand the decision.  The game should be at NC, period.  I don't know if the NCAA or ESPN is behind this, but I lean toward ESPN.  Either way, I'm sure the almighty $$$$ has much to do with it.

It doesn't make any sense why NCC is traveling to MUC for next weekend's semi, but the NCAA is going to do what they are going to do and, in some way, shape or form, it's about money.  This happened to us during the playoffs in 1984 and 1986. In 84, we were the defending champs and #1 rated team in the country and had to travel to Dayton in the first round of the playoffs.  In 1986, we were the 3 time defending national champs and had to travel to Hope in the first round and Mount Union in the second round of the playoffs. It definitely pissed us off at the time (which probably wasn't a good thing for the teams we played), but it wasn't a big reason why we went on to win the Championship each of those seasons.  My advice to NCC is to use it for whatever little edge it may be able to give the team over the next few days and then go on the road and prove you're the better team.  Despite our parents/fans having to travel a little more than they would have liked, I wouldn't trade playing those games on the road for anything.  Nothing better than going on the road against very good teams with fans packing the stadium and showing them why you are the defending national champs.  I hope the Cardinals do that this weekend.
