Dansand-- I saw on the web that today was Augie Media Day.. 134 players???  Now honestly,  how many of the 134 players are actually going to see "quality time"?   I think it is great that 134 players want to play for Augie (and the CCIW), but when I was that age, I wanted to play.

I think it was about 3 years ago Augie had something like 167 on their pre-season roster. I couldn't find Mount Union's 2006 roster listed yet, but I don't think it's unheard of for them to have 200 out.

Tailgater,
Now you are catching on!  Two posts for the price of one! ;D  Use lots of P.S.'s and "By the Ways," and you will be there in no time! ;) ;)

You know I was just joking about all that....Right, Pat?   All my posts are of great substance......... ;D

BTW, ever since I have been trying to help Tailgater with his karma problems.....mine has dropped!!!! Coincidence????  I think, not!!! ;) ;) ;)

Does anyone know if CCIW schools make cuts or just let the natural attrition happen?

FormerCard

I know NC doesnt have cuts, but other schools might.

It could be construed (sp?) as crossdressing, but I am comfortable where I stand on that issue.

I dont think anyone can knock Shakira..those hips dont lie and they are phenomenal.

Are most CCIW schools in practice now??

I know Wesleyan never made cuts in the past, which I believe is true for most all the teams in the conference.  Combine the natural attrition along with no scholarships in D3, and I think most coaches like to have a large number on the roster to help with scout team, etc.

FormerCard, agreed.  If you happen to be a fan of Entourage you know what I mean when I say she'll be on my list if I ever decide to get married, though that would be a miracle in itself.

Augie does not make cuts.  Jaybird, as far as Augie's roster size, I believe the 134 number is pretty typical of what its been for the past 20 years or so.  As dansand mentions, we had 167 a few years back which I'm sure has to be the all time high.  I know when I played in the Mid 80's, we had anywhere from 120-130 players report each year.  With that many players, it's obvious that not everyone will see action on Saturdays.  However, Augie has always played 6-7 JV games per year, so almost all the players see game action of some type.

Wheaton does not make cuts either...

I'm guessing Wheaton's roster size is predominantly among the lower half (if not the lowest in some years) in the CCIW.  This year the roster shows 92 players.

If I am not mistaken, I believe the 2005 roster was the largest ever at Wheaton (at least in the "modern" era).  I know Wheaton's 2005 recruiting class was the largest ever (35-36 players if memory serves me).

In the 26 years that I've been watching Wheaton football, I'd estimate the average Wheaton roster in the 83-86 range.

btw: Roster has just recently been posted.

Mugsy,

Looking forward to the annual Wabash/Wheaton scrimmage in a couple of weeks (9/2).  It has been a very good early test.  High expectations again in C-ville.  56 Frosh / 121 on the roster.

Thanks BB16, I was just about to ask if Wheaton was scrimmaging the Little Giants again.

Word of advice: If you're going to call someone a "peabrain", it tends to defeat the purpose if you spell "peabrain" incorrectly.  :D

I didn't mean brains the size of peas.  I meant brains soaked in urine.  duhhh  ;D

RedmenFB44

I know Carthage doesnt have cut but anywhere from 10-15 players will quit the team before the season starts
It's REDMEN not RED MEN

Comet 14

I don't think anyone cuts, but one of the reasons my son was turned off of some of the schools he visited was because of the large number of kids on some of the rosters. One head coach didn't even know how many kids he had on his squad the year before. I thought that was terrible. If he didn,t know if he had 120 or 130 players. What kind of coaching are those 10 players actually recieving?

devildog29

Comet, I'm not making any excuses for a coach that doesn't even know how many players he has on his roster.  That seems a bit odd.  However, one thing to keep in mind, as you move up to higher levels of football (HS to college, college to pro, etc.) the head coach actually does less and less coaching and acts more as a "manager" if you will.  The bulk of your sons coaching will come from his position coach and coordinator, not from the head coach.  The head coach acts more to set the agenda and manage the other coaches.  That being said, many coaches at the college level do act in dual capacity as an offensive or defensive coordinator, therefore they may do a little more one on one coaching than a coach who delegates both coordinator positions.  If I'm being a master of the obvious here, I apologize, but I thought it's important to note this because I think often this is where a lot of the attrition in college football comes.  Athletes come in expecting to get all of the attention from the head coach like when they were being recruited or like in HS, but it just doesn't work that way when there are 100+ other kids on the roster all of whom were stars on their own HS teams.
