What would get really crazy is if NCC, Wheaton and WashU end up in a 3 way tie and Wheaton wins the tie breaker, thus the AQ bid. (that would require the unlikely scenario of WashU beating NCC by 1-10 pts and Wheaton beating WashU by 20+ pts). If that were to happen you would have two 1 loss CCIW teams in NCC and WashU in the Pool C discussion with WashU likely ranked above NCC.

It's probably a moot discussion after this Saturday but for those who like to spin on playoff possibilities, this would throw Pool C into a tizzy.

I know this goes without saying, but the CCIW got so lucky with the Isthmus Bowl.  For the life of me, I do not remember why Mike Shaw thought this was a good idea, but I am glad he did and glad he convinced the most CCIW of fast-food burger chains to sponsor it.

Only because the Culver family has more walking-around money than the Katsis family that owns Charcoal Delights. ;)

When the naming rights come up in the future, this NEEDS to be the Charcoal Delights Bowl.

Or at a minimum, assuming something like the CCIW-MIAA challenge happens again in men's basketball, there are naming rights there to monetize as well.

(And the MIAA commissioner responds to the idea with "the Charcoal WHAT?!?!?"  :D

Yes, despite the numerous delectable delights available at the Foster Avenue establishment, and the resulting top rung reputation within the CCIW, it's highly doubtful the name Charcoal Delights is very well known in Madison, WI let alone in any of the neather regions of the Mitten State.  8-)
So young hero, ask yourself............................Do you want to go to college, get a good education, and play (basketball)(football), or do you want to go to college, get a good education, and watch (basketball)(football)? 🤔 😏

The basic rule of thumb is that CCIW teams and the more local NACC teams (Aurora, Benedictine, Dominican, Concordia IL) will tend to eat at Charcoal Delights, because they venture to North Park often enough -- or other teams from that school tell their schoolmates and coaches from the school's other teams about the place -- that they know better than to opt for any of the other nearby postgame food options such as (yecch) McDonald's or Domino's or Jimmy John's instead. The teams that are visiting NPU for the first time, or who visit only once per decade or so, miss out, because they don't know any better. I do remember the Anderson men's basketball team eating at Charcoal Delights after playing in North Park Gym a few years back, but that's because their head coach, Owen Handy, was a former Wheaton assistant, so he knew where to go for a postgame team meal at Foster & Kedzie.

A lot of veteran CCIW coaches from other schools have their own favorites from the CD menu that they order every time that their teams play at NPU. Carthage women's basketball head coach Tim Bernero, who used to be an assistant coach at North Park and who married a North Park alumna, tells his team every season before the CC @ NPU game, "Win, and we eat at Charcoal Delights. Lose, and we eat at McDonald's." It's a pretty powerful incentive.

(It doesn't work for football, because the sheer volume of food that a football traveling party eats requires that an order be placed days in advance and that it be a one-size-fits-all operation in terms of item choice, so I've noticed that most traveling football teams either get Domino's or Little Caesar's or some other chain pizza or else subs from Subway or Jimmy John's and take the food with them on the bus.)

Word on the street is All-Conference Viking WR AJ Harris has been kicked off the team.  Another CPS headcase...this time not on the hoops team.

Is the term "another CPS headcase" necessary? Sounds like a broad brush, and, frankly, it has some overtones which really don't look good for you.

I'm a huge Charcoal Delights fan. I might just drive there this weekend as this discussion has got my CD cravings fired up!

I was just back visiting the city this past weekend.  Being unfamiliar with the area, I hadn't realized I was as close to CD as I was on Saturday when I dropped into the Atlantic Bar and Grille on Lincoln to join my fellow Spurs supporters for their EPL match.  Noted in my brain for next time.

I agree. Behind every face is a story and few know the full extent of what is going in people's lives. Let's save those comments for the people who get paid to entertain us.

You may see me there if you go on Saturday. I have a tripleheader to call -- football versus Augie at 1 pm, women's soccer versus Wheaton at 4 pm, men's soccer versus Wheaton at 7:30 pm -- so I'll probably be in CD more than once tomorrow.

That's my neck of the woods. I've stopped in there from time to time for the Friday fish fry and some EPL myself. Back when Paul Brenegan was coaching the NPU men's basketball team, the coaching staff and some of the rest of the NPU athletics staff used to debrief and decompress after home games at the Atlantic. I remember having dinner in the Atlantic's back room on Paul's birthday one year after a game; first and last time I've ever seen birthday candles stuck in a pan of shepherd's pie rather than a birthday cake. :D

Oh, it's food!  Here I thought Charcoal Delights was the name of GS's band from college.

No ... but now in retrospect I'm kicking myself for not starting a band with that name. It's actually not bad, as band names go.

(Incidentally, when I was a North Park student the restaurant was called the Hot Dog Pit. They changed the name to Charcoal Delights when they tore down the old restaurant and built a bigger version next door in 1986. Old heads who went to NPC in the '60s, '70s, and early '80s still call it "the Pit," so I have to revert back and forth depending upon the age of the person with whom I'm conversing when we talk about the restaurant.)

Charcoal Delights has a website if you want to peruse the menu or buy a gift certificate. :)
