Besides  Elmhurst @ UW Whitewater and IWU @ Benedictine,  anybody know of any other CCIW scrimmages this Saturday?

Jaybird: Saturday Carthage travels up the road to Concordia (Wis) for their annual scrimmage. Usually a pretty good opponent to test what you've been working on. CUW is pretty physical and usually has good overall team speed. They are coming off a successful season in 2005 and are returning 17 starters. I've enjoyed watching this scrimmage develop into a rivalry of sort over the last three years. Somebody at some point during the scrimmage gets knocked out cold. Hard hitting affair most of the time. I think both teams are just enjoying being able to hit someone new in a different colored jersey for the first time in a while.

Just a thought on roster size. I'm not sure ther is a need to limit the roster number for D3 schools. One solution to getting a lot of players meaningful playing time is to have a JV program. Carthage scheduled 9 JV games again this season. It has been a great way to get those players who see little or no playing time on Saturday some game experience. This also gives the Coaches an opportunity to evalute developing players and see how they perform under game conditions rather than just during practice drills. There will always be attrition to roster classes as the years progress. Large incoming freshmen class seems to whittle down to about 25% or so by the time they are seniors. With a JV program you may develop a player who may otherwise have fadded away. Or at the least...... those players who do fad away will have had the opportunity to a least test themselves in a College game wearing their schools colors.

Mugsy, I remember a Wabash game at Wheaton in the early 80s played in pure mud.  We won at the very end and the Wabash was not a happy man.  Were you there?

I was at the game, though not as a Wheaton student.  I'm old, but not that old.  My brother was the defensive captain of that Wheaton team, so I was there to watch him.  I would have been a sophomore or junior in high school at the time.  If my memory is correct, wasn't that an up and down affair that Wheaton won 50-45 or something like that?  I think Keith Bishop threw for 500+ yards and 5 TDs.  It was crazy - and it drove my brother nuts that they gave up 45pts.

Tailgater-

CUW was always a good test to see what we had. They are a very physical team and us as players were always excited to hit someone other than our own red jerseys. Every year that we scrimmaged them there was always a skirmish on the field. It just showed that both teams are fired up and ready to play some real games. CUW was a good physical test for what the Redmen are going to see in the CCIW.

GO REDMEN!!!

I wouldn't worry about it.  I've been taking hits for some unknown reason as well.  Oh well.  Here's a little helper for you.

Ah yes,  the Preps get started tonight.  Hopefully I can make it to the Prospect Downers North game out in DG.  Prospect has won 3 of the last 5 7A titles, yet when I played there  our goal was to win 4 games!  Times sure have changed.
Comet14-- No I am not able to make the scrimmage Saturday.  I talked with some of the coaches and players.  The scrimmage is scripted and coaches are looking for specific things each play.  Still, a great experience for Elmhurst to see UWW and what a championship caliber team looks like on the field.
Next Saturday... Game on!  Looking forward to the start of the D-3 football season.
Last thing Comet14-- Were you at the Freshman Orientation this past Wednesday?  The reason I ask is because I was working at Elmhurst and facilitating some of the activities there.  Perhaps you may have seen me.

79jaybird- Yes I was at the orientation. I also got a chance to watch part of the morning practice. It was a very good day. I very well could have seen you and just not known it.

79jaybird

Comet14-- Yes, you probably saw me, just didn't know what I look like. I was the young man at the table for the "Elmhurst Visa Card", with two older gents.  We were at the North end of the tent.
Are you going to the Elmhurst/Benedictine game next week?
