Thanks usee!  Now I remember that last play and their coach running after the refs...it seems like sooo long ago.

The Vikes break camp today and prepare for a scrimmage next Sat @ Univ of Chicago.  Should be a good measure of how effective the new offense and defense are doing.  We went to the scrimmage on Friday and this is definitley the BIGGEST team we've seen @ NPU in some time.  Some nice young players as well.

;D

The boys should be putting on the new helmet stickers this friday night.  Then it is the end of a great era.
We will always be REDMEN

Less than a week now, until we can kick off the D-3 football season! :D

79jaybird- Yes I will be at the game Sat. We plan on getting there in plenty of time to tailgate. There are a lot of people from Sterling - Rock Falls coming to the game. My son has a ex-teammate playing for Benedictine.

I just wanted to find out if anyone went to the Elmhurst Whitewater scrimmage Sat.? White water has awsome practice facilities. They have 5 full practice fields all in great shape. Elmhurst did a good job of holding there own vs. a really good team. Yes I know it was only a scrimage but it had to help to see a program that good and how they carry themselves. Just a note on an earlier discussion, Whitewater will cut about 20 players today to get to 100. I believe this is a conference rule.

Comet14-- Great. and glad to hear there will be a large contingent coming from that area.  The last 2-3 years have seen Elmhurst's attendance increase dramatically.  When I played, we had too many empty seats.  The tailgating area is South and West of Langhorst Field, adjacent to the cemetary as you pull in off of Alexander.

Redmen96-- That has to be a bittersweet event.  The positive is that they players receive their stickers, and (well I always felt) that was a sign that practice is over and it is time to play for keeps.
The negative (sad part), is that longstanding emotional image that was a significant symbol of Carthage, Art Keller's Dynasty, and what Carthage football is all about, no longer will be used.
I personally, am not in favor of the change and liked the feathers hanging from the C.  Oh well, sad trend in society but that is a whole nother soapbox topic.  I would like to see the Redmen "stick it" to those who wanted the change, go out and make the playoffs, and show them who's boss.  :P

RedmenFB44:
I don't know how to sum it up other than to say I came away with more concern than satisfaction. I know the Coaching staff would say the same. The offense didn't move the ball at will as I had hoped. The defense had problems stopping CUM from moving the chains as they put together a few steady drives. The players I spoke with were all very dissatisfied with the overall team effort and were prepairing themselves to get their butts kicked hard at practice starting Sunday. Rain had kept the team inside the field house Thursday & Friday with little contact. A  7:00 a.m. departure with a 9:00 a.m. scrimmage time may have had some effect? A few key defensive players sat out allowing nagging pains from two weeks of camp to heal. This years scrimmage with CUM seemed to lack the intensity and aggresive play of previous years from both teams. There were positives, just not as many as I or others had anticipated.

79jaybird:
I like your thought! I assume your thought of Carthage making the playoffs would include joining Elmhurst as the 2 teams (for the third straight year) representing the CCIW in post season play ;).

Comet 14

79jaybird- Thanks for the tailgate info. I can't wait to experince my first Elmhurst game. I still have not been able to get a J.V schedule from any source, any help in this area would be appreciated.
