formerd3db-- Thank you and I hope you had a great Labor Day weekend also.  The game was bittersweet as I had mentioned.  I hope Kudyba (our QB) is able to return next year.  I will be sending you a copy of the paper and a copy of the Elmhurst program to you shortly.
I met with Coach Pethtel today and he is excited about the opener for the Vikings. Yes, they did scrimmage University of Chicago.  I think the Vikings will be much improved and Coach Pethtel is also very optimistic.
Augie attempted 12 passes??  Hark! They do know how to throw the ball.  I recall two years ago, Augie did not attempt 1 pass at Elmhurst when they were up or down by 14 points.
I was happy to see UW-LaCrosse knock off a D-1 school, showing there is a lot of pride and power at the D-3 level.

I thought you were exaggerating, so I pulled up Augie's cumulative stats from last year. 33 passing attempts... that's hilarious. I don't think I ever realized that it was quite that ridiculously lopsided.

On the other hand, Augie completed 52% of their passes last year, as opposed to 33% last Sat... throwing it more with out making completions doesn't really count, does it?  :P

April,

Actually, sometimes even passes that are incomplete can have the effect of keeping the defense honest. :P ;)

...and don't make me have Mr. Ypsi come on here to lecture you on the perils of reaching conclusions based on such small statistical samples.  ;D ;)

...and your posts are making me hungry.

You can run, but you can't hide!

Well I certainly can't run like I use too... jog is about the extent of it. :(

You and I both, Brother!  By the way, I had to bring the conversation back to the Mother ship.

Incidentally, Mugsy, I think that means that you were a freshman in high school the year I was born. :P ;)

In one word... OUCH! ;D

Nooo... are you serious?? That's amazing! :o However, it could also definitely be argued that it keeps the offense more honest if they actually think you might complete a pass. :P :D ;) Seriously though, I doubt the first string QB and WRs even stayed in the whole game given the blowout... I'm not really all that stressed about these numbers... it is fun to debate for absolutely no reason though. :)

You don't have to do that, I've already gotten calls from all my past biology, chemistry, geology, sociology, and anthropology professors.  :D

Very short summary of NPU's scrimmage against Chicago.  Not a lot of info, but info all the same:

The NPU/Chicago scrimmage was a great test for Pethtel's new offense and defense.  My kids and I stood right on the sideline at Stagg Field and watched the whole thing.  The 1's played the first half with the 2's and 3's getting all the 3rd and final quarter work.  With the starters in NPU scored 17 points and UC scored 14, one of UC's tds was in a goaline session scripted by the coaches.  NPU has one of the most talented QB's I've seen in some time in D3 in Shelby Wood.  The kid was all-state in 3 sports and went to 2 state championship games in Michigan.  The senior Schwan looked good as well but Wood came in with the starters and looked impressive.  Im just glad the Vikes dont have to see Augie or NCC early as we play Benedictine on Sat night.  We're not in that class yet unfortunately.

Jaybird,

I remember that game you were talking about in 2004, and it wasn't that we didn't attempt a pass it was that the Bluejays sacked Roe both times he went back, which on the stat sheet goes as 2 rushes for loss, even though they were supposed to be passes. Either way they didn't pass much with Roe (which even he would admit was a good thing).

Also I believe it was me that said they were going to open up the pass a little bit more this year and as Dansand has said 12 passes for Augie is a lot (30-40+ for most other teams). The fact that they only completed 33% percent doesn't bother me. More importantly is that the opponent's defense's are going to have to think pass a little bit more against the Vikings and if they don't then hopefully they will get burned a little more often. Put those 12 passes per game into a season total and that would be 120 compared to Roe's 33 attempts (which if I remember right was in 12 total games) and that comparison shows how Augie is probably going to try to air the ball out a little more.  I don't know if it is going to work, but McGinnis is supposed to have the arm so why not find out.
