Mr Ypsi,  I give you credit for standing behind your school (IWU) even through the tough times.  I have seen some pretty tough moments with Elmhurst also.
I am not implying anything by this, just want to get a fan's perspective, but do you think that Norm Eash might be on the hot seat?  Or,  with IWU no longer in the top 1-3 slots, does IWU perhaps, look to find a new "spark" with a new coach?  The old "You can't fire the players", but you can "fire the coach" to spark a change  ???
When I was a student at Elmhurst, IWU won the CCIW 2 times.

i am having a hard time with the irony of themadswede posting for the first time in a year on the same day as
"the great norm eash debate" resurfaces.

its too much for me to digest.

Mr. Y,

Are you the last IWU football  fan left standing?

Devildog is a Titan fan also.

A question if anyone feels like answering or giving their opinion:

Why does college football still have that dumb stat that if a quarterback gets sacked it counts against the rushing yards and the quarterback's rushing stats? Most of the time the quarterback is attempting a passing play not a running play. I don't know why they dont adapt what the NFL has where if does not count against the quarterback's stats but only in the total team yards stats.

Any insight? If not, then maybe im crazy  :P

I can't say that I think IWU is a bottom tier team yet.  Being a basketball school I think that Eash has a longer leash than most, especially considering his past success and length of tenure. It isn't like IWU is like Florida or something where heads can roll after a couple of seasons.

I would say that Eash has at least 3 more years with lack of improvement before he might be in trouble barring a Bobby Knight type choking incident or such.

The Weenies still have a team?  Wow this is such sweet redemption for Cardinal fans.  I remember the days when NCC blew (when i played), we were given no respect, and IWU were annual football monsters.

Please insult me (or this post) or throw a barb or something -- for old time's sake, if anything.  All these pleasantries, measured, unemotional responses and lovey-dovey chit-chat are making me sick. I'm dying over here.

The Mad Swede loves IWU football.

In the "what have you done for me lately?" category...

IWU has 3 CCIW championships since 1996 (last decade) and the question of if Eash is on the hot seat surfaces.  Granted IWU has had some tough years recently (and I'm not too broken up about that  :P), but I'm not ready to lump them in with North Park just yet.

Some of their struggles can be attributed to a much more competitive conference.  When they were winning their CCIW championships, it was Augie, Millikin and Wheaton as the contenders.  Quite honestly the other 4 games were assumed with reasonable probability to be wins.  That is no longer the case.  It is cut-throat week to week.  IWU has gotten weaker, just as teams like NCC, Carthage and Elmhurst have gotten significantly better.

Of course another bad year in 2006 and I might need to reconsider my view of their program.

I think this week has a number of interesting matchups.  Of course, as a homer I think the Wheaton game will be an interesting one.  Albion seemed to have beaten up on Butler but Butler went winless last year and has a 9 game home losing streak.  They have a new coach and play in the Patriot League which although is I-AA does not allow scholarships. Valpo is also in that league.  However, Albion was the MIAA rep for the playoffs last year.  Should be a good game.

IWU takes on Olivet.  Although over on Pick ems I had the least confidence for this game I think IWU wins this one.  Interesting because on 9/23 Elmhurst takes on Olivet.  Could be a good measuring stick early on in the season before the conference race starts taking shape.  I have to say that along with Millikin, IWU has a good non-conference schedule.

After barely beating Illinois College, the Millikin game looks sketchy against ONU.  Here's hoping the Blueboys were better competition than I thought.

Finally, Benedictine and North Park could be a really good game.

Good luck to all the CCIW teams this weekend!!

i'm new to posting.  i understand that most or a few of you guys are coaches.  let's debate a little about the topic of Olivet.  First off, lets view the location of this college. Michigan, right?  Now what major city is located?  in retro, they are going to have some athletes.

I've read this posting five times and I still don't get the point.  Yes, the college is in Michigan, an indisputable fact.  I'm not sure why the closest major city is germane to the team's performance or anything else, for that matter.  I suppose they have some athletes, too (otherwise, it wouldn't be much of a team).  So I guess I'm not sure what you are putting up for debate.

Yes BluPhi35's comment is rather vague.  :-\
Bluphi35-- Olivet is in Michigan and close to Lansing, Kalamazoo, and (not as close) to Chicago's south suburbs.
In terms of recruiting, neighboring states battling for recruits is not a new subject.
I will be at the Albion/Wheaton game tomorrow.  I am curious to see what the Thunder have this year.  I think this should be a very good game, along with North Park/Benedictine.
