I'm hearing rumbles that NCC is NOT playing a pre-season scrimmage this year??  I don't see the sense in that.

Here it is Mat.  I must have been prophetic!  It surely showed in the way they started the season!

TitanBacker-  my sources tell me that IWU is on the road to play a tough Mount St Joseph team this week that went 9-2 last year I believe.  That's about the extent of my "info" on them.

I do agree though that the defense so far has shown to be the strong point of the team.  Hopefully the O will be able to sustain a couple longer drives and keep the defense fresh because it only gets tougher from here on out.

p.s.  I'll be sitting right beside you in the stands week 9 to witness the coaching return of you-know-who
Things are never as good as they seem and things are never as bad as they seem.

Overall it was a tough week for the CCIW. I will be looking forward to a bounce-back this weekend!

Also looking forward to Carthage playing a school from California!

I also think it is great to see a team on the schedule that is from another part of the country!  What a great experience for both teams, my hat's (not Norm's ;D) off to both ADs to make this happen.   I am sure it is costing a lot of money, but IMO it is well worth it! I really wish I could make it up there to see the game!

Yup... Concordia (Wis) beat NCC in 2 OTs. Congrats.  It sounds like it was a hard-fought, very close game.  Recognition should go the Concordia on a fine victory.  And yes... this year is the important year and the next game is the most important game.

It should be noted the comparing the CCIW vs. IBC is not a one way discussion.  Just check both boards during last season as Lakeland was preparing to play Augustana.  IBC posters were just as guilty as CCIW posters beating their chests about their conference.  That is a part of virtually every board on the D3Football website.

Please excuse the perceived arrogance of some CCIW posters, but there is a reason for our pride in the CCIW - particularly in relation to the IBC.

IBC record against the CCIW since the 2000 season:

Concordia (Wis.): 1-0 (last weeks 30-24 2OT game against NCC)
Greenville: 0-3 (include 58-7 & 65-6 blowouts from Wheaton & loss to NorthPark)
Benedictine: 2-16 (avg score in losses: 38.2 - 10.5)
Concordia (Ill.): 0-4 (2 losses to North Park)
Eureka: 0-8 (4 losses to North Park, other losses: 60-14, 40-6, 50-7, 61-0)
Aurora: 0-2
Lakeland: 2-6 (beat Carthage twice in tight games)
MacMurray: 1-1 (victory over North Park & 53-7 drubbing by Augustana 2 weeks ago)

Cumulative record against the CCIW since 2000 is a paltry 6-40 (.150 winning percentage).  2 of 6 victories have come at the expense of North Park, which hasn't won a CCIW game since the 2000 season!  While North Park hasn't defeated a single CCIW team since 2000, they are 7-2 against the IBC

So when 1 or 2 IBC posters start rippin' on the CCIW after a single victory (albeit a quality win), you can see why some have reacted the way they have.

All this doesn't even bring into consideration that the IBC has yet to win a playoff game, while the CCIW has 4 national championships (yes, I know... in the 80's) and playoff victories by Augustana, Wheaton, Carthage, Millikin and Illinois Wesleyan in the last decade.

Well, I knew things were pretty one sided... but once I began to dig just a bit, I was amazed at the overall record.  Just took 15-20 minutes of looking at past seasons head-to-head.  It's all right here on D3Football.com, so thanks to the guys for an awesome site!

Mt. St. Joseph is a tough team.  They have steadily improved since 2001.  The feeling over on the HCAC board is that they are a tough team and can win every game.  Around the Nation ranks the HCAC 22 of 25 D3 conferences, but with Franklin's win over Wabash it can be seen that there are some quality programs there.  Kickoff thinks the Lions will be undefeated.  Mt. St. Joseph has taken care of business so far with wins over Wilmington and Rose-Hulman, both teams they were supposed to beat.

TitanBacker

MatBlake-

Correct me if i'm wrong but Rose-Hulman has not been a powerhouse (or very good) team over the past 5 years and is probably comparative to a lower tier CCIW team.  Even though Mt. St. Joseph seems to be a very tough team, i believe it depends on IWU's defense as to whether they come off a road trip with a win or loss.  If the defense can capture momentum and the offense can sustain a few drives (as fightintitan alluded to), IWU should come out victorious.  I know i'm a homer but it would be nice to see us regain a spot as a top tier CCIW team.  I think they have a very good chance of surprising a few people this year. :o

79jaybird-

I was jsut wondering if you remember the rain game in 2001 at Elmhurst against IWU.  Did you play in that game?  I was just reminiscing a little bit and that might have been the strangest game i've ever played in.  You remember too fightintitan?

And yes, I'll be at that game to see if our boy can actually live up to what he's been talking about all summer.   ;D

You are not wrong about Rose-Hulman.  It is hard to say though just how tough MSJ is at this point since they have beaten 2 teams they were supposed to beat.  IWU has lost to a team they were supposed to lose to and beaten a team they were supposed to beat.  This should be a good measuring stick game.  I want the CCIW to do well, but I still have to go with the Lions in this one.

CardinalAlum

Jaybird,

What's with the coaches at Elmhurst wanting to post on here?  Just figured out another one.  Can you say BluPhi?   :o  I'm getting good at this detective work!  ;D

Posted this over on the pick ems.  Couldn't resist bringing it over here for some discussion.  It is in regards to Whittier playing at Carthage.

Wouldn't it be great if it was 35, rainy, and a stiff wind off of the Lake?  Since they (Whittier) only have last years roster on their site, they have some guys from Colorado and Northern California which can be crummy at times, but a whole lot of So Cal and AZ guys.

CardinalAlum

By the way the Clark Jones scandal on this site is still one of the most bizarre things that I have seen on here, so far!

That's funny.  That reminds me of the old days back at NCC.  There were always 5 or 6 guys from Florida that would come to school and stay for the first trimester and never come back after the break because of the cold.  Most of these guys didn't even have a jacket!  Especially not one for cold weather.  ;D
