MatBlake-Correct me if i'm wrong but Rose-Hulman has not been a powerhouse (or very good) team over the past 5 years and is probably comparative to a lower tier CCIW team.  Even though Mt. St. Joseph seems to be a very tough team, i believe it depends on IWU's defense as to whether they come off a road trip with a win or loss.  If the defense can capture momentum and the offense can sustain a few drives (as fightintitan alluded to), IWU should come out victorious.  I know i'm a homer but it would be nice to see us regain a spot as a top tier CCIW team.  I think they have a very good chance of surprising a few people this year. :o

You are not wrong about Rose-Hulman.  It is hard to say though just how tough MSJ is at this point since they have beaten 2 teams they were supposed to beat.  IWU has lost to a team they were supposed to lose to and beaten a team they were supposed to beat.  This should be a good measuring stick game.  I want the CCIW to do well, but I still have to go with the Lions in this one.

You can't even like the Titans for a non-conference game?? ;)

As I said before, I think it depends on 2 factors for a Titan victory.  1) If the defense can come up with some big plays and 2) if the offense can sustain some decent drives and let the defense rest.  Number 2 depends alot on the O line to open up some holes to establish a decent running game.

By the way the Clark Jones scandal on this site is still one of the most bizarre things that I have seen on here, so far!

Still trying to figure that one out.  It was like watching one of those videos where parents at a Pop Warner game get into a fight, you try and figure out if it is staged or reality.

Jaybird,

What's with the coaches at Elmhurst wanting to post on here?  Just figured out another one.  Can you say BluPhi?   :o  I'm getting good at this detective work!  ;D

Whoa!  Nothing gets past CardinalAlum.  Sure enough, BluPhi does appear to be on the Elmhurst staff given his personal email address resembles his name and the picture he is using.

You mean Bob Marley is on staff at Elmhurst, too?  ;D

Anybody have a scouting report on University of Chicago? I,m new to D3. What O and D do they run, Do they throw more or pass more etc.

My thoughts on the IWU/MSJ game... .this is a mighty tough test for the Titans.  I was at  the Wheaton/MSJ playoff game, froze our *** off and saw Wheaton dominate, but that was the start of the roaring Lions.  I think IWU has to play flawless and get their offense clicking to have a shot at this one.  I don't think MSJ (or anybody in D-3) goes undefeated this year.

Titanbacker-- ah the 2001 what I call "Monsoon Game"  for Homecoming where IWU stole the game from us in the final moments.  My roommate was the RB #33 and came back to our dorm room dirty even after 2 showers!
I hate to say this:  I was toasty warm in the press box  :P  thinking how fun, yet difficult it had to be on the field for that game.  You literally could start sliding at the 30 yard line, and make it to the other 30 yard line!
Coincidentally, the grass and field were so damaged after that game, that the College decided that for 2002, the Astroplay (current surface) would be installed.  We finished the 2001 with grass (if you could call it grass, it was more like a sand and gravel mixture).
2001 was the last time IWU beat Elmhurst at Elmhurst.
CardinalAlum-- I don't know and I can't speak for the other Bluejay posters.  I think any Coach posting on here is walking a very vulnerable tightrope.  There is so much "stuff" that could get a Coach in trouble.  I played for Coach Jones, but don't know who BluPHi is based on his screen name here.

Don't know what to expect for the Chicago/Elmhurst game this weekend.  Both teams shutout their Week 1 opponent pretty soundly.  I think Elmhurst wins this game with a strong D-Line pursuit, nullifying Chicago's deep threat ability.

Comet14-- The Elmhurst/Chicago rivalry started in 2002. Chicago won the first game in a shootout 46-40, but since then Elmhurst has been strong in knocking off the Maroons.
Chicago is primarily a passing team that will run the ball secondhand.  They had a receiver a few years ago (graduated) named Joe Polaneczky  that was a very good deep threat.  I think he burned us on a few occasions.   They have  an All American candidate on the O-Line and some veterans to boot on both lines.
Let's face it,  Benedictine was not much of a "test" for our defense.  Chicago WILL BE.  I know our D-Line and Linebackers will be in the backfield all day.  It's the secondary that better be sharp to avoid the big "gamebreakers".  I think Elmhurst wins this one by 10-15 points.

Titanbacker-- One other thing I forgot to mention on the "monsoon game".  That game was played during a stretch where it rained nonstop for 2 days!  We had like 45-50 hrs. of straight heavy rain that caused major flooding in various parts of the Chicago suburbs.

Jaybird,

Bluphi is the Elmhurst RB's coach if I am not mistaken.  I agree with you that there is nothing good that can come out of a current coach posting on here.  Following your D-Line coach on here last year criticizing the all-conference picks and Augie, I'm sure this isn't what Journell is looking for.

2001 was the last time IWU beat Elmhurst at Elmhurst.

Of course you had to throw that tidbit of info in, didn't you Jaybird?  ;)

That was probably one of the most brutal games i've ever played in in terms of weather.  I remember our center having to hold the ball above the ground in certain areas because the puddles (or small lakes) on the field would cause the ball to disappear completely.  The rain came down in sheets and never, ever stopped.  At the end of the game, the middle of the field was a lake from 30 yard line to 30 yard line.  And I believe IWU squeaked away with an 8-3 victory en route to a share of the CCIW title that year. ;D

Thanks for the info. I also agree that coaches are riding a fine line posting on these boards. If they are not getting paid by the school that could make a difference but as a head coach I would not be happy

79jaybird

Titanbacker-- one of the few completed passes all day was a TD pass to the North Corner of the endzone.  I recall looking through my binoculars, and just crossing my fingers, that the weather would do it's part,  but the pass was completed and IWU won that day.  So you had the fun of playing in that game.  I always wondered what you guys (visitors) did after that game.  Hopefully you all had dry attire inside the locker rooms for the bus ride back!  You're right, that the rain was coming down hard and in sheets!  I recall after the game was over, neither my color analyst or I wanted to leave the pressbox, b/c our dorm was on the other side of campus!  :D

Aren't you a coach yourself?  Why are you concerned with who posts on this board or is that you got something to withhold?

BluPhi,(Coach Harris)

I've got nothing to hide or withhold.  I am NOT a coach.   My issue is that coaches and players shouldn't be on here posting about other teams and players.  Ask your D-line coach about his posting on here last year and see if that was appropriate.  There is nothing good that could possibly come out of it.   Ask Clark Jones!! 8)

That was indeed one of the strangest games I've ever played in as well (although I was only out there for special teams), but one of the most memorable.  Finally figured out on the last drive tha shotputting the ball to Eric White was the only way we were gonna move it and we were able to come out on top.   As for what we did after the game?  I dont really remember the ride home, but I know that TitanBacker and I got back on the bus the next day and played in the Mud Bowl against MacMurray for a JV game.   Just imagine playing on the Elmhurst field the next day after the rain had stopped and that's pretty much what it was.

Speaking of JV, TitanBacker, you do realize that this fall is the 5 year anniversary of the storied JV National Championship season at IWU right? ;)
