Wheaton looked great today, especially on defense.  As mentioned, Andy and Pete played very well, but really everyone played strong today.  I would also side with usee on the comments about Chupp.  I thought the pass to Kemper was absolutely perfect!  Ulrich also looked good, especially with his ability to pick out the opportunity presented very quickly.  His passing touchdown was well placed AND well timed.

Wash U looked very weak to me.  I was expecting a stronger team performance out of the Bears.  Things did look a bit better when #13 was in at QB, but overall, Wheaton far better as a team than is Wash U.

I was impressed at how hard Washington U. played, but they were quite honestly just out matched physically in almost every facet.

I saw on several occasions WashU substituted in a 5'9" 200lb DT!  Granted in was on a 3rd and 1 and he submarined right under the Wheaton OL and made a play for a 1 yard loss.  Of course on 4th and 2, Wheaton went right over the top of him for a 4 yard QB sneak.

Wheaton clearly had the size and speed advantage of Wash U.  I don't expect that during the CCIW schedule.

There's a story in today's print newspaper that the mumps is a problem at Wheaton, and that 7 students have been quarantined. Has this affected of the Wheaton players, or are they taking any extra precautions? I'm assuming they are but will that affect their practice or game preparation?

Carthage had a very difficult week prepairing for Whittier with their own health issues. A very serious situation as Staph Infection was thought to be rapidly spreading throughout the team. As of Thursday around 2 dozen or more players were not medically eligable to practice. In fact the offensive scout team was working out as the #1 unit. The entire locker room had to be evacuated, cleared of all equipment & disinfected with bleach. Same with the training room facility. All the players had to dip their gear in bleach as well in order to disinfect it. Tuesdays practice was moved indoors because of lightening. It was very difficult for the Coaches to acomplished what needed to be done in prepairation for the game. Coach Rucks didn't know until mid Saturday morning who he might have available to play. Fortunately, all worked out OK and the "Staph" scare did not affect the roster come game time. My hat is off to Coach Rucks and his assistant Coaches for still being able to prepair and execute a solid game plan under very adverse conditions. Also the Trainers did a great job in heading off the potentially serious problem.

Needless to say, the Red Men outplayed the Poets from the opening kickoff in all facets of the game. Several players were able to get some valuable playing time which can only help, not only deep into the schedule this year, but for next year as well. All's well that ends well. A little "Poetic" justice you might say as the Red Men sent Whittier back to the land of fruits and nuts with a 2 point consolation prize!

Tailgater-

Sounds like the Redmen had their problems before this weekends game but the coaches did a great job of getting their team back on track before the game on saturday. I listened to the game on the internet and Carthage had this game well in hand. Offense ran the ball well and O'Boyle had a very solid game at QB. The defense (as usual) dominated even with out stud saftey/punter D. Moore.
The Redmen will have a well needed bye this week so they can get a lot of players healthy. I will be at the homecoming game for sure to make sure there are some refreshments ready  :D

GREAT GAME REDMEN!!!

I wondered if it was something that affecting the coaching staff only!  Seriously, though, I hope the team can recover quickly from the infection.  That can be pretty serious!

wasn't correcting you.  Was just adding info.

is anyone else cautiously optimistic about the bears super bowl chances?

the way detroit played against seattle last weekend and the way the bears made them look this weekend.......well.......ya.
You win! You always do!

Mr. Ypsi

While I think the Bears DO have a shot at the Super Bowl, taking your measure against the Lions is just plain sick!

With the turnaround of the Tigers and the emergence of the Clippers as half-way decent, the Lions just might be the worst franchise among all major pro sports!

They are probably not the worst team in the NFL, but the others have hope - Lions' fans abandoned it years ago!

I'm still kicking myself for not putting some money on the Bears to get to the Super Bowl when I was in Vegas a couple weeks ago.  They were getting 7-1 odds to win the NFC Championship.  I thought that was pretty good odds to just make the Super Bowl.  15-1 to actually win it seemed a little improbable, but 7-1 to make it is a heck of a payoff for 50 bucks or so.  Here's hoping I'm still kicking myself when the Super Bowl arrives.
Hail, Hail, the gang's all here, all out for Wesleyan!

Looking forward to seeing you. We'll be at the red tent in the practice field. Should be a real good game to kick off the conference portion of the schedule. I'll be sure to pack extra beverages. We'll be firing up the grills around 3:30 p.m. to begin our pre-game prepairation.

You know... I've tried to ignore it, but I find no pleasure sharing information with this board anymore. Regardless what I write some cowardly anonymous bully(s) whacks my character and reputation by hitting me with negative karma. Maybe it's funny to some to abuse this power, (which I believe Pat should re-think about offering) but I find it to be humiliating to have the thoughts or information I offer receiving negative karma with EVERY single post I make (this season), including season predictions. Does someone want to explain to me what their problem is with me??? or is this little club so exclusive that occasional CCIW posters are not welcome? You wouldn't get much info on Carthage otherwise or is that the goal? Some may think karma ratings don't matter. I do and so does Pat or he wouldn't have added the feature.  If I were to travel around and visit various boards how serious do you think I would be taken? An individual tagged with a lot of negative karma is surely assumed to be a fool or a jerk of which I am neither. Pat, the power of karma corrupts. I wish you would do away with it.

Mr. Ypsi

Tailgater,

Since you've just made your 92nd post, and are only -8, "negative karma EVERY single post I make" is obviously a bit over the top, but I "feel your pain" (sorry, Bill).

Since I post on many boards, but have no way of knowing WHERE the negatives are coming from, I share your concern (I've been +19 and -14, and have no clue why).  Because of that, I'd say ignore the karma.

Under the old system, individual posts got rated 1-5; I wasn't wild about it, but at least you knew for WHAT you were being evaluated.

Please continue to post, but ignore karma (I've never previously given you + or -, but give you a + tonite).

Jim Matson

Tailgater, give it some time.  You've only posted 92 times and as you get into this board more, you'll find the "karma" thing to be less significant.  Your skin will also attain a certain thickness as a result of the scar tissue that builds up.  I don't post a whole lot, but I've been on Pat's boards for 5 years and so I've seen many come and go, and certainly have seen my fair share of irritating weirdness.

Hiker Jim and Mr. Ypsi are right.  Please keep on posting; your contributions to the board are encouraged and appreciated by many others, despite the shananigans of a few miscreants.  So hang in there and keep sharing your opinions.  A "+" karma for you.

Tailgater-

Your posts are great and I would give you positive karma if I could. I think that some people just have grudges with some schools or teams and they feel the need to give that fan negitive karma. If possible I think that Pat should let you know who give or takes your karma points. This way you can thank that person or find out what aboutg your post someone didn't like. I think that Pat would say that by doing this it would take away from football posting info. on the board but I would hope that if someone had a problem with your post, you would write them a personal message instead of using the board. Just a thought  ;D
