I'm only 3 years away from those tuition payments...high rates or low.  I'm old.  Not as old as old Ypsi, but yet I'm old.

On the eve of recognizing your older, congrats on reaching "All Conference" status on your 800th post.

I feel old well at least my body says im old. I mean I have been asked to play and thought about playing some semi-pro ball but I dont know if my body can take it. I just pulled my hamstring the other day in an old man softball league (where I am one of, if not the youngest guy out there). I know very sad  :'(
My mind says yes you can still play but my body is telling me that I have already done enough damage.

Jaybird- No I will not make it to the Olivet game. I planned on going but my oldest daughter is up for Homecoming Queen and I was told in no uncertain terms by the boss that I will be there for homecoming dance. Yes I thought that Freund looked rusty. He is a very physical player but I thought for every throw on target he made he made one that was not so good. I credit the completion ratio from both Q.B's to outstanding hands by the recievers.

As to the Private-Public High School debate I will say that my son went to a small private school and I have a hard time agreeing with punishing all Private schools to get to 3 or 4 dominant programs that are abusing the system. If I had a child that was a very good cross country runner and wanted to get recognised for scholorship opportunities I would send them to York High school. Does that meen they recruited. No! Hey, you young whippersnappers!

I played competitive soccer 'til I was 51.  I retired after a game where I broke my big toe (THAT didn't stop me, it hardly hurt at the time, and I didn't seek treatment 'til the next day), AND they shattered my glasses (I should have known better than to stand well left of my teammate's free kick - the only safe place was directly in front of the goal! ;D)

You may have missed my retirement announcement since it was the same week as Gretzky and Elway - sometimes us 'near-greats' get overshadowed! ;)

Diehardfan:
You had some discussion about NCC trying an on-side kick against BU just before the half. I won't comment on the merits of sportsmanship in doing so with a 28-0 lead as I feel you gotta do what you gotta do.

I can't even imagine the outrage from the NCC folks if Norm had done this.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

DD,

You're right!!  Norm would have been crucified on here for doing that!  If you look back, I was the one that brought it up and said that it showed no class.  + karma for you!

You should go watch invincible (a great movie that's really about how attractive women are when they like sports) and get back to us on the "I'm too old to play" thing.  :P

But April, the experience was well worth every penny of interest!
Just when I'm starting to make some seriously headway on my undergrad loans, I'll probably go to grad school.... (yay more loans!) but yeah, I agree.

I contemplated going to a state school, I even applied to one (William and Mary)... Virginia has some amazing public schools (and a DIII one called Mary Washington that's not so amazing) but I don't regret my 23,000 dollar a year education one bit... well... only once a month! :D

Typical male.... you totally missed the point of that comment.  ::)

No thanks, I've already seen Invincible. Tonight I'm watching "The Rookie." Same story about old guys who could apparently whip the crap out of you in sports ... but without the woman who likes sports... sound familiar for some reason?  :D :P

You can never be too old. I remember seeing a few 45 year olds on the chicago semi-pro football team, the "force of Illinois", a few years ago.

Just to throw my 2 cents in about Studebaker, some of the other D-line guys that were mentioned had very good linebacking corps behind them.  Chip Parrish, Thane Ritchie, and Mugsy  ;) come to mind.  Although not a bad bunch, Studebaker has not had a stud linebacker to make his job easier.  That makes him impressive to me.  I guess only time will tell, but an excellent start so far.

I agree with mugsy that linebackers benefit from strong dline play. i do not see the benefit of strong linebackers helping a dlineman. perhaps you could argue on a combo block the lineman will tend to go to the linebacker more quickly but that is as close as i can get.

I went to high school with Al May's two older Daughters.
Al and his wife Madeline went to North Park
Al was a great bball player and won a Nat'l Championship at NPU
oldest Daughter Amy went to North Central and I believe was involved with either Track or CC
Youngest Daughter Molly is at/or went to IWU  and plays Volleyball.  Al's family is all CCIW.

Al May's younger brother Darryl was my classmate at North Park. Darryl May was an All-American cross-country runner for the Park, and his wife Sue was also an outstanding runner for North Park's women's cross-country team. Both Darryl and Sue are members of NPU's Athletic Hall of Fame.

Although I have a number of friends who are alumni of other CCIW schools besides NPU, I can't claim any cross-pollination myself ... unless you count the fact that my pastor and his wife are Wheaton alumni. I forgive them for this, since they're also huge Cubs fans. Speaking as one myself, I know that being a Cubs fan is due penance for all sorts of sins.  :D
