Greg-- too cool.  Actually the Mays live about 3 blocks away from me in Mt. Prospect and Al May was my grade school basketball coach.  I couldn't play bball to save my sole, but Al (and his family) were classy all the way.
Mr. Ypsi-- My Father meant every word of that which is why there were times where I had to decide- go out with the guys to the show or whatever... or hit the books..  I chose to hit the books.  I did my fair share of "college" stuff (all clean of course  ;D)  but when somebody else is paying your tuition,  you make that extra effort to put together solid grades.  My Father paid tuition, however I paid for my phone bills, textbooks, and had a job Fresh/Soph years.  Looking back, I can say that it was a fair and very lovable thing my Father was able to do for me.  I hope I am able to return the favor when my kids (hopefully) are ready for college also.
Comet14-- Congrats on your Daughter's HC activities, but where's your loyalty ???  Football or Homecoming :o  I'm just kidding.  My Senior year's HC King was our star running back and our Queen was the star soccer player.
I think Elmhurst will be o.k.  They (knock on wood) shouldn't have too much difficulty with Olivet.  The real showdown and the game that I am looking at as pivotal for the rest of the season, is that following week @ Carthage.
Carthage came to our place last year and had NO BUSINESS winning that game with all the turnovers, miscues, etc.  That was such an ugly game last year, and Carthage was able to pull out the W.  Coach Rucks even told me that he couldn't believe the Redmen were able to win that game.
Hopefully 2006 will be a more fundamental performance from both sides.

Any NCC fans planning on making the trip to Wash U on Saturday for the night game?  I'm interested in going just to see how NCC plays after losing to CUW and beating Benedictine.  I'm just curious to see who may come down since it's a night game.

RedmenFB44-

Since everyone has been coming down on you for saying your body hurts, i'll come to your defense.  After 4 years of college football, I sometimes feel the same way.  I get the usual aches and pains associated with being an athlete too.  I'm fairly certain i'll be up for some knee replacements when i get to be Mugsy's age!  ;)

As to the Private-Public High School debate I will say that my son went to a small private school and I have a hard time agreeing with punishing all Private schools to get to 3 or 4 dominant programs that are abusing the system. If I had a child that was a very good cross country runner and wanted to get recognised for scholorship opportunities I would send them to York High school. Does that meen they recruited. No! Success Breeds Success.

It is not about whether a private school is successful because they recruit or talent just finds them because they have had success.  It is about the fact that private schools have the luxury of accepting kids from all over, therefore, increasing their talent pool.  Public schools must make talent out of what they have within their school boundries.  NOT an even playing field IMHO.

What'd you type here sonny?  I can't read your typing, my eyes aren't what they used to be, ya' know...

Actually getting to my age has proven to be a positive motivating factor.  As 40 quickly approaches, I FINALLY came to the realization (too much blunt trama to the brain pan from all those CCIW battles) that while I was still at or just below my playing weight as a senior, umm... I'm not 20 something any more.  The muscle to fat ratio has shifted in an undesireable direction.

So 17lbs off since May and I weigh what I did when I was 19.  16-20 miles jogging a week is making me feel years younger and not carrying around all that weight has made my knees and back feel WAY better.  Now the challenge of keeping it off, which really just requires some changes in eating habits - smaller portions, less processed sugars, less starch, etc...

Anyway... enough of my "Jenny Craig" moment here... just pointing out that aging doesn't have to be a negative thing.  Wisdom can over power physical strength.  To the high school kids at my church who could crush me if they wanted... all I say is just two fingers and a little force on pressure points and they are floppin' around on the ground like fish out of water.   ;)

Lots of interesting sidebars going on here lately... I suspect the tone will change a bit in intensity starting on Sunday when the CCIW schedule kicks in.  There will be considerable more football talk to cover in analyizing strength/weakness, matchups, etc...  Should be fun.

79jaybird,

His younger brother is only 3.3 years (but 4 grades) behind, so the 4-year rule is essential.  I can quite easily (well, FAIRLY easily!) handle one kid in college, but two at once would be a pain!
I envy your position in a  few years I will have three in college at the same time.

But at the smaller private schools they really are not recruiting like the bigger schools they dont give teh xsame type of scholarships and also becasue it costs $7 or $8K they have to sometimes severely limiting that talent pool.

It is not as cut and dried as some would make it.

DHF-

Well attractive women and sports are my two favorite things... sooooo DHF what are you doing tonight?  ;D Wanna catch that "Invincible" movie later?  ;)

Maybe I am a lot more classy than you, but I would have said that Boobs and sports are three of my favorite things.   ;D  J/K

FB44,
I'll get your back on the too old and in pain all the time.  I saw you play about 7 or 8 games with a broken hand.  You've earned your retirement! Enjoy it!
No need to try and relive past glory on the football field.  That is why there are bars and D3 posting sites!

Mugsy-

I'm a personal trainer if you ever need one.  ;)

Right now only being a few years removed from my playing days, i'm above my playing weight as a senior but below my playing weight as a soph.  I thought a loss of weight over the years would make me faster but i nver could unhitch the plow. >:(  Now it seems i work out more for my health and for looks than anything.  Although I've vowed to never be one of those guys that's all upper body and has no legs!

As for football, the most I do is play a two hand touch game with friends or play in my hometown's annual Turkey Bowl game around Thanksgiving.
