Mr. Ypsi

Before you declare that meeting IWU in the final game is "un/anti climactic", may I remind you of a certain game played 10-22-05? ;) ;D

Wheaton should be able to handle Hope but looks like the Dutchmen have a seriouis DE who was just nasty to Depauw offense according to team of week stats.
by the way Pat how does an IC wide receiver out perform a WC receiver, who you featured on the cover of this week, for team of week honors.  or an offensive line who lost???

Is it the offensive line's fault they lost? I am not aware how the O-line is responsible for Ferrum giving up 30 points.

Being in the Statistical Spotlight is not a guarantee of making Team of the Week.  The two features have different goals.

But unfortunately Augie is not our regular season ending game.
I think Augie and Wheaton fans should protest... and flood our athletic offices, and the conference's office with complaint letters. I think of Augie being the last game of the season as tradition!  >:( ;D

Thank you April,

ypsi, I look at the game last year vs iwu as an anomily (sp) and I think the Titan mascot is a rip off of Sparty the spartan, at the university that's going to give the golden domers a rough weekend.

But Pat,  If the line was so dominant why didnt they control the ball and keep possession away from their opponents?  By the the way the hope dl was also featured and his defense allowed his team to lose? ???

Your gonna be at the homecoming game right? I know that Tailgater will have some refreshments and Im hoping you will be around for that as well. Then we can enjoy the game in style  :D

From an Elmhurst standpoint, I do wish Carthage would play this weekend, b/c now they can take this weekend off, rest up, get healthy, etc. and get ready for Elmhurst.

I would agree it could be an advantage that Carthage has it's bye seperating the conference portion of their schedule from the 3 non-conference games. Even if they are riding high, after 3 games every player has some kind of ache that could use a little time healing. Coaches can take a long hard look at 3 games worth of execution to aid in fine tuning personnel packages and improve performance prior to the start of Conference games.

I loved the bye week to heal up! I don't know how much of an advantage it is to prepare for the next team (yes I know there is more time).  I would guess that most college coaches are very prepared for the next game even if they only have a week to do it.  They work countless hours to make sure of that.  If a bye week does anything for the coaches it gives them a weekend where they do not work 30+ hours.

I actually saw you play a lot your senior year. I traveled to all 3 play off games and only missed 3 games that year.  It was a lot of fun!

Okay, Ive had enoug of my whining,

Wasn't there a story at least 10 years ago about a 44 year old RB for Elmhurst?  I know there was a write up in the paper about him and maybe even a tv piece.  Does that ring a bell? and what's the story was that you  mr. ypsi ;D

I was just reading the NCAA stats for the nation online, and was seriously impressed at how many defensive players for Wheaton are showing up in the top #100 for various statistical categories.  8)

Pass Sacks
Andrew Studebaker, #2 in the nation with 2.3 pg
Ben Kuenzle, #26 in the nation with 1.3 pg

Tackles For Loss
Steve Pagh #9 in the nation with 2.8 pg
Andrew Studebaker #25 in the nation with 2.3 pg

Passes Defended
Pete Ittersagen #9 in the nation with 2.5 pg
Tim March #15 in the nation with 2.0 pg

We're #12 in the nation for scoring defense, averaging 7.0
We're also #13 in the nation for rushing defense, averaging 37.0

You can look up more stats here:

Obviously it's early on, but here's hoping we can maintain similar excellence during the conference season! ;D

As a player I liked the bye week, as long as it was at or near the middle of the season.  For example, Elmhurst had their bye in week 2.  I don't think I would like that as a player. Turns out, the bye in week 2 was a blessing, because of some injuries and subsequent changes suffered in week 1.
Hope is a very good team, and shouldn't be taken lightly.  I don't think Wheaton will and should win a fairly close game.  However, both Wheaton and Elmhurst have to travel this weekend and it's always tougher to win a road game.

I fear you're right that it was an anomaly - in the pickems I will probably never pick IWU to win except against NPU.

Maybe the CCIW is actually giving Wheaton a bonus - last game each season will be their revenge game! ;D

Can't be me - I used up my eligibilty at IWU in the 60s.

Wait a sec - I was only there 8 semesters....Coach, put me in, I'm only 58!  (Of course, now I've got to find a sport)! :o

Tailgater would you be able to catch a snapshot of the new "Redmen" unis in action and post it somehow?  I live in NY now and don't think I will see them this year.

They did, sir, 36-24 minutes in time of possession. Thanks for assuming.

Again, this isn't the "Team of Members of Winning Teams of the Week" -- it's a list of top individual performances, one at each position, for the week. There's never been a prerequisite that a player must have been on a winning team and we never will have one. If one person out of 11 can single-handedly win a game, I'd like to see it.

Even the five on the offensive line can only affect what the offense does, really.

I just mentioned this about 50 pages ago in August... I remembered shaking his hand at the end of a Wheaton/Elmhurst game and I had to take a double take.  I believe the context of the topic being discussed was eligibility rules.

Mr Ypsi - No longer a homer for IWU??  ???  That hurts.  After watching them play Coe, I still think they will upset a few teams this year.  By no means am i saying they will win conference but I believe there will be an improvement from the last few years of play.  Brandon Cotter is a smart and capable pocket quarterback and Marcus Dunlop is a great runner once he heads north and south.  Assuming that coach every one loves to hate can get a spark into his offense, they should be very competitive once CCIW play begins!
