Well, looks like another year where Augustana will run the same offense that have let them win conference, but cannot take them all the way!(although this year the opposition seems to have caught on)

Way I am looking at things, seems that Coach Johnson should start coordinating an offense instead of showing us (and every team they play) the same plays over and over.

And while I have this soapbox, could someone explain to me why he insists on keeping the same line in on EVERY offensive play?

The guide I look at shows some BIG OL players that never seem to be out there.
Using some of those BIG guys would let them at least run up the middle sometimes.  Maybe even pass more!

Please, for the love of game show us more!!

Do you really think this needed a whole new forum?  This should have gone in the CCIW room.

"We called him Bad Boy Burris"
Burris was the lone reason Carthage beat us at Elmhurst that year.  He was tough to stop.  I vividly remember the play (I want to say 2nd Qrtr. going West-- East) where he ran off right tackle for a touchdown.
NCCAlum62-- What's wrong with the U. of Michigan's "Greatest College Football Marches"  that they play at IWU before every football game?  That's the same CD I listen to in my car on gamedays.
"First time I noticed male Cheerleaders at the D-3 level"  NCCAlum62  Albion has male cheerleaders and has had for years.  Also, Olivet College (MI) had male cheerleaders as apart of their O-Zone cheerleader tangent.
I like the smells of brats and hot dogs being fired up on the grill at Elmhurst.  We are elevated (pressbox) and the smoke rises, makes us hungry as we are just starting the broadcasts.   :D

North Park's football field actually runs NNW to SSE. It parallels the North Shore Channel that runs behind the stands, rather than following the city's north-south-east-west street grid.

How many of you were recruited by NPU and why did you choose another school over NPU? The new facilites are great. However, as you drive up to any of the campuses, including Augie, Elmhurst, Carthage, and NCC, and walk any of the campuses, there is a huge difference between those campuses and NPU. NPU has great facilities and can promise you immediate playing time, but for the complete college package, NPU is at a disadvantage.

A group of us visited NPU on a late December afternoon. It was a horrbile decision to have our guide walk us from the athletic offices to the dorm, since it was one of the darkest, dreariest walks I've ever done. We all agreed that we not be attending NPU.

Exactly who is "heralding the return to respectability of NPU and their soon-to-happen first CCIW win in years", midwestfb? I haven't seen anyone post anything along those lines.

Besides, you have to have been respectable at one time to return to respectability. Unless you want to go all the way back to 1968, any respectability the Vikings achieve in the future will be a first for the program.

I have no idea what you mean by "the complete college package", but as far as aesthetics go I can assure you that NPU is a very different place now than it was a few years ago. The old library was torn down and a new one was built in a different location, giving the school a genuine quad in the center of campus for the first time ever. And the quad and all of the other green areas on campus were the recent beneficiaries of a $2,000,000 landscaping upgrade. It's a very nice-looking campus now, light-years beyond the rather dumpy little corner of Chicago that it was when I went there.

If you're referring to the urban location in your reference to the aesthetics ... well, that's another matter. Let's face it -- there will always be a substantial number of suburban kids who do not want to go to school in the big city. That's fine. Different strokes for different folks, and all that. NPU is always going to have to deal with that when it comes to recruiting, not just for football but for admissions as a whole. The big city is not for everyone. I was one of the opposite types; I grew up in the suburbs and was attracted to the idea of going to school in a place like Chicago.

I've actually talked about this matter with Scott Pethtel, because it does factor into his recruiting efforts. He is up-front with prospects about the pluses and minuses of going to school in the big city. NPU is what it is, an urban school, and there's absolutely no point in hiding it. In fact, the best coaches (and admissions personnel) do their best to sell Chicago as a key reason to go to North Park, not as something that should be ignored or compensated for. I'm sure that they do the same thing at DePaul, Loyola, the U of C, etc.

I agree. one of NP's distinguishable characterisics is the city location. it is actually a huge differentiator that can become a huge advantage. plenty of schools have used urban life as a draw. now with the upgrades at npu and hopefully subsequent committment to staffing, they can use this to their advantage. the catholic league schools are a particular obvious culling ground for potential recruits. kids who go to st ignatius, st. rita, loyola, mt carmel, all of them are well adjusted to city life. the city league is also a great recruiting bed for urban colleges as well as the aforementioned student athlete who leaves a suburban setting for the excitment and pace of city living. plenty of advantages to build on.

This has been Augie's MO for years.  They play a type of football where they come and hit you in the face and dare you to stop them.  The wing option is an old style but for them it works.  Isn't that how they won their championships??  So why mess up a good thing?

Also, just because there are bigger O line players doesn't mean they necessarily understand the play scheme or are athletic enough to play.  I know at IWU and other schools they have large O lineman but some guys are jsut too unathletic or have not understood the play schemes yet.

In other Augie news, their use of the pass more often may be skewed.  Evidently, the majority of their passes (like 2/3) last week came in the last 5 minutes of the game when they were trailing.  I dont' think they'll be passing that much on Saturday, but I can hope!  ;D

Any news on McGinnis?  I'm interested now.

Fatal-Why so many periods?  I'm kinda getting lost in your stream-of-consciousness type posts.  And I hate to jump on the Carthage bandwagon, but I think they have a good thing going there and are moving towards credibility.  You make a good point that 2004 may have been a fluke year, but I believe we'll find out that they are building something there and could be a contender.  Not to knock Elmhurst, but they still need to win a CCIW championship in the next few years to be viewed as a real contender.

Burris was a really, really good back.  I thought it would be a long time before they had a back as good as he was.  Little did I know, that they would have two great ones (Randal Baker and Dante Washington) for the next four years, and I think they got a steal with this new freshman they have Cleo Walker.

To the Green Weenies, I always hated everything about playing IWU especially at your field.  Part of this is the fact that you waxed us all four years I was there!  If I may what's with that Torch at your field?   ???

I also believr Elmhurst's stadium is positioned east to west.

LOL, I remember playing in a game once where the opposing coach filed a protest because the field had an east-west orientation. He maintained that we, as the home team, failed to provide a legal field configration.  :o

IWU may also be E-W, but it's been a while since I've been there.
