I think there is a really good chance Wheaton moves back into the top 25 again and Augie creeps closer to being a top 25 ranked team (but not quite yet).

The following ranked teams lost and probably will fall out of the rankings:
#20 Ohio Northern lost 16-6 to Marietta (4-3)
#21 Bridgewater (VA) lost 21-17 to Emory and Henry (4-3)
#23 Delaware Valley lost 17-10 to Susquehanna (2-5)
#24 Coe lost 10-7 to Wartburg (6-1)

Coe's loss was by no means a "big" loss, but at #24 ranking they should drop out.  Delaware Valley's loss was hideous.  Ohio Nothern now has 3 losses, so goodbye to their ranking.

There were 2 other top 25 teams that lost, but I don't see it having any affect on Wheaton or Augie's rankings.

#8 Hardin-Simmons lost 42-23 to Howard Payne
#14 St. John Fisher lost 55-38 to #17 Springfield

I sure hope the NCAC board has the equivalent of a "usee" poster.  Currently there are 5 teams all with one loss at the top of the standings with 3 weeks to play.

You want to talk about some mind-numbing tiebreakers and scenarios... ::)

Kind of funny that the Augie guys are debating with each other about CCIW Championships.  Can't you guys be happy that your team is winning the title(s)  ???
If you asked the other 7 schools what is their goal at the beginning of the year, each player/coach would say, "Win the CCIW".
So I can't understand why Augie nation is not happy winning the CCIW.

I found it rather curious that a football program with such a rich tradition of success could only fill about 2/3rds or less of their stands in support of their team???? Most of them appeared to be parents and alum.  We have a friend who's son is a student at Augie. As he toured us around campus we virtually found no students anywhere. The largest group of non-player students (4) I saw were at our pre-game tailgate. They joined us in the stands on the visitor side and only one seemed remotely interested in cheering for their team. What's up with that?

By the way, what happened to Die Hard Fan (April)? Did she lose her computor while moving? Haven't heard from her in a couple of weeks.

I think part of the problem is that until recent years, there weren't many close scoring home games for Augie(except for Wheaton).  Elmhurst, NP, NC, and Carthage didn't use to be close games although that has certainly changed recently.  Also, with all the "reserved seating" for non-students, there really isn't room for a "student section" at Ericson field.  I also don't think the community is behind Augie as much as some of the other schools closer to Chicagoland. With a great majority of Augie's population coming from the Chicagoland area, I don't think the students and community share the same bond as a Elmhurst or Wheaton.

AugieAlum, if you really want Augie to switch up their offensive game plan, would you be willing to go through AT LEAST 2 or 3 years when Augie is mediocre?  The players they have now are recruited because they fit into the Wing T system.  They can't just switch offenses.  They'd have to recruit players who would be able to run a more pass-oriented offense.  It would take at least 2 or 3 years (probably more) of recruiting for Augie to get the players they needed into the system to make it work.

First they would have to get rid of most of the entrenched coaching staff.  I will not hold my breath until that happens.  The whole program is stuck on past glories.

Tonka, lindmark might be calling the plays, but I prefer to think the focus starts at the top of the food chain.   I believe I am focusing on the right person as the major problem with the offense.

we are trying to take positives from yesterday's shelacking ........Brandon Watts 8 receptions for 164 yards and a score and 5 kick returns for 150 yards including a 95 yard return in the 1st quarter.  From my evals there is not a better receiver/return man in the CCIW.  Again baby steps for our Vikes!!!!

diehardfan is no longer posting, but I'm sure she is still actively reading.

She finally had enough with the content of some posts (being one of the few women to be involved on this site), she struggled with not being taken seriously by some, and then experienced some rather disgraceful treatment from a few.  She has put up with quite a bit over the years and has been more than patient.  I know she really loved being part of the discussion, but she has decided to move on from active participation.

I understand her decision completely and think it is a real shame.

lakeshore,

I completely agree that Brandon Watts is incredible and is a very positive aspect of NPU football (one of the very few).

However, how many of the receptions were against the #2, #3 or #4 team defense of Wheaton?  After the first series or two of the 2nd half, he was going up against Wheaton subs, while North Park continued to play many of their starters.

I don't mean to take away from his accomplishments and his ability, but I don't think you can look at the final stats only - IMO.

Minus his 95 yard return, he then averaged 14 yards a kickoff return, which is not very good at all.

Mugsy:
That is a real shame for sure. I happened to be eating a chocolate chip cookie while reading posts and that reminded me of DHF and made me wonder about her abscence.  I find her insightfulness and wit to be interesting and entertaining. I hope you might reconsider DHF. I think you add a valuable and knowledgeable voice to the discussion on this board. My best to you!

I agree its a real shame. April adds a great perspective and insight (even from afar). I hope she is just on "vacation" from posting and comes back.

I can't believe it has come to this. There is no way any team (mayber IWU) has as good a following as Augie football. for years and years they have been the most represented team in the conference from the visiting side. all home games were SRO. I certainly don't believe elmhurst and wheaton have a better following than Augie, even now.

Wow, how things change.

Unfortunately, she has taken several "breaks" from posting, only to have the same issues arise again.  Seemed to me she wanted to take a complete break so that she wouldn't be tempted to return.  I know she loved the banter with 95+% of those on the boards - particularly the CCIW boards.
