Hey we agree again CardinalAlum, whoa!  Is there a full moon?  8)
I think it is great that right now we are all talking about the CCIW getting 2 teams in.  It wasn't that long ago we were talking about this possibility being less likely.

since this is a board for whatifs and prognasticators, here is a shot at the north bracket if the season ended the way it is today:

the regional seedings, based on the criteria laid out by the NCAA would likely look like this:

1. muc
2. mt st joe
3. concordia WI
4. Capital
5. Wheaton
6. NCC
7. NCAC champ (witt/wabash)
8. Hope

the top 3 are undefeated and should be a no brainer by the committee. the only wild card there is possibility that capital is #3. (if capital loses to BW this all changes). Wheaton is ahead of ncc by virtue of hth and QOWI. NCAC rep and hope are at the bottom w 2 losses.

this makes the likely 1st round matchups:

Hope @ MUC
NCAC @ Mt St Joe
Wheaton @ Concordia
NCC @ Capital (committee is likely to avoid a rematch of concordia/ncc in 1st round).

this all fits nicely within the travel parameters the committee is known to revere.
there is almost no way hope will play wheaton or NCC no will the cciw have to travel to alliance til round 2 IMO. that was settled when wheaton pounded Hope up in holland earlier this fall.

Usee, I read your earlier post about rematches not being scheduled in the first round, then I had to run out. I was thinking about some potential pariings but I like what you've put together. My only quibble would be whether Capital is 3 or 4. I was thinking 3, that a 1 loss OAC team would still be ranked higher than an undefeated IBC team especially when that one loss was to Mount Union. It also allows the committee to delay a potential Mount Union - Capital rematch until the regional final.

I also believe Wheaton would be seeded higher than NCC. NCC has no chance of securing a frist round home game. However, there is a chance that Capital could lose to Baldwin Wallace. Then, Wheaton would slide up and get a home game. Since you don't want to see rematches, that rules out NCC-Wheaton or NCC-CUW games.

This assumes that BW becomes the 8th team, not Capital. NCC would then get one of the Mount teams --- Mount St Joseph or Mount Union.  We'll have a better idea when the Regional Rankings come out, but isn't this fun. ;D

I think with the combinations of the 8 teams in play, the committee can seed and create first round games that do not involve rematches. So, no Wheaton-NCC rematch until the regional final.  ;D ;D

before we all start on the head coach rant of "lets focus on this week" lets remember this is a speculators board and this is the place to have fun and dream of the matchups and whatifs. that's why I post all the playoff stuff. most of it is likely to change and we all know there is some very tough CCIW football ahead.

Usee,

Do you see any scenario where Wheaton and NCC would play each other in the first round?

No. that is extremely unlikely. I don't know that has ever happened when 2 teams from the same conf meet. the closest it ever got was when 2 top 5 and unbeaten texas teams (trinity and HS I believe) had to meet in round 1 because the NCAA is cheap and didn't want to pay for travel. That situation won't happen in the North bracket.

In bball there is a rule against conference rivals having to meet in the first round.  I don't know if fball has the same RULE, but I can't recall it ever happening.  Likewise with non-conference rematches of regular season games - don't know if there is a RULE against it, but can't recall it happening.

I was looking at Wheaton's website Friday evening getting prepared for the Saturday broadcast when I noticed the Thunder are scheduled to play Concordia-WI here in the upcoming 2 seasons in the non-conf.
On that note, Elmhurst doesn't return to Wheaton's McCully Field until 2009!

NCC has 6 home games in 2007, including the first 3 to start the season.  We play CUW again.  CUW has definitely beefed up their schedule!

new top 25 is out. wheaton moves up 1 spot to #24.

one last note on the point differential. I can't help but remember NCC scoring their only points of the 2nd half on a 4th and goal from the 5 vs wheaton. wheaton had the ncc rb stopped in the backfield but he broke the tackle and scored. while ncc liklely could have scored a few more times if they needed to vs augie, i was remembering that as i listened to the game in naperville saturday.  :P

Capital dropped one spot to #5, so they should remain #2 in the regional rankings.

agree on cap at #3. they have a stronger QOWI than concordia. i put concordia there on the assumption that an undefeated AQ would rank ahead of a 1 loss pool c, regardless of who that 1 loss is to. otherwise move mt st joe too. we will know when the regional rankings come out tues.

if bw beats cap, there is a real chance they are in w 2 losses. they would be #8 and hope still goes to MUC based on rematch rules.
