Appears that Dunlop made a mistake..........

I can't believe that Wheaton score, looks like everything went right for the Thunder.  Depth might be an issue for the Red Men.

Millikin wins.

Another interesting weekend in the CCIW.

Jim Matson

I figured on the Millikin win, but I certainly thought that Wesleyan would defend their home turf better than they did.  Someone should be eating some newsprint for supper...

Here's hoping that the win over Carthage gives Wheaton some confidence in light of the IWU game last year.  The "Remember last year" jitters might surface.

Have not posted in awhile, but I did catch some football in Elmhurst today.  A couple thing stood out.  First of all Millikin drove something like 93 yards on 3 plays with no timeouts to win the game, they did this with less than a minute remaining.

The other thing I noticed was that when Elmhurst scored to go up 17-16 their WR started dancing in the endzone, the refs decided not to flag him, but I did lose some respect for Elmhurst College today.

I'm more worried about the "Remember last year" revenge juices kicking in!  As a Titan, I fear the scoreboard could get pretty ugly! :(

RedmenFB44

Wow just got back and saw the Carthage/wheaton score. O'Boyle didn't play which hurts the Redmen but that is no excuse for giving up 52 points. Redmen had a great chance to make a run at the conference with Wheaton up at Carthage but they couldn't capitalize. Congrats to Wheaton
It's REDMEN not RED MEN

ncc58

Dunlop had 13 carries for 44 yards; Sulo had 16 carries for 81 yards. Sulo had 1 reception for 38 yards and 2 TDs on the day.

IWU had 34 rushing attempts for a net of 35 yards. NCC recorded 6 sacks today. Stuedemann had 9 catches for 169 yards; Ceisel 5 for 144 for IWU.

Carthage next for NCC at home.

Check out the story in today's Pantagraph-
www.pantagraph.com, on the NCC-IWU game.  What is Dunlop thinking? ???
It's the same Wesleyan attitude. They always think they're better. It's certainly no easy game for the Cardinals, but they've proven they can beat Wesleyan on the road and this is a more meaningful game for North Central than IWU.
Cardinal Skip

How true Cardinal Skip. I believe last year, Wesleyan's head coach, Norm Eash, was quoted saying in a Bloomington newspaper that NCC has never beaten them( NCC won the last three years). He said they beat themselves. I wonder if Coach Eash thinks they were BEATEN today? Or, did they beat themselves? hmmmmmmm!!!!!!! I wonder!

First of all, I know O'Boyle didn't play for Carthage and that had a significant impact on Carthage, but Wheaton made sure it wouldn't have mattered in terms of the final outcome.

Even so I really think Wheatons defense performed very well overall and the offense was very balanced.  It was nice to see Black in the backfield again and I was thankful he got the 2nd half off to rest.

From the game summary on Wheaton's website:
"Wheaton tallied 512 yards of total offense, with 260 rushing yards and 252 passing yards. Wheaton held Carthage to just 162 yards of total offense, with 104 rushing yards and 58 yards through the air.

Thunder quarterback Jeremy Chupp completed 11 of his 18 passing attempts for 170 yards, with three touchdown tosses. Ullrich completed three of his eight passing attempts for 82 yards with one touchdown and he ran for 34 yards, with one touchdown scamper. Hershey carried the ball 16 times for 73 yards with one touchdown and Black ran for 68 yards on 14 carries, with one touchdown. Fossum caught four passes for 95 yards, with a touchdown and Dreyer recorded 52 receiving yards on four receptions, with a touchdown. "

Coach Rucks on the Wheaton game:

"It wasn't a good day, and I don't know if there's anything good to say about it.  It was a total wreck.  Early on, I thought we had a chance, but penalties really turned out to be drive-stoppers for us.  Defensively, we were out of position and missed tackles.  Wheaton's running backs are tough and hard to bring down—they're a very formidable team.  We're not a better team than Wheaton right now, but we were capable of making  a much-better showing than this.  At this point, there's two ways this team can go.  Either we ride it out against North Central, or we fight back.  It's my job to make sure we don't feel sorry for ourselves and just ride things out."

Just an FYI for everyone ... With 114 more yards, North Central's Kam Kniss can pass Keith Bishop for 15th on the NCAA Division III career passing list. Kniss has 9,466 yards heading into the Carthage game and Bishop had 9,579 in four seasons at Illinois Wesleyan/Wheaton.

Not to "split hairs" or lessen the accomplishment of Kniss in anyway, but Keith Bishop passed for the 9,579 yards in only 3 seasons.  He played from 83-85.
