On the Emblem, a keep-sake photo is taken of the player & parents which is charished by all for a life-time.

Damn...I'm still waiting for my keepsake photo from Parents Day in 2002! I would certainly have cherished it for a lifetime if I had ever received it!

Usee...glad to see you are still alive and well, my friend!

Wheaton leads North Park 73-26.  They start their final possession on the North Park 44 with 0:52 left.  They line up with a few wideouts and run a play for 5 yards.

My question is, why not take a knee at that point?

Backups need to get their work in too. I don't have a problem with a team running plays at the end of the game, that is well in hand, as long at they have backups in. In the Wheaton/North Park game, Wheaton had their 3rd and 4th string guys in there. Backups need playing time in real game situations because they might be called on if someone goes down or next season when seniors graduate. If a team has their staters in at the end of game that is well in hand, and they are still running plays, thats another story. That was not the case here. Wheaton had their backups in and they got some well needed work. No problem with that at all.

I also agree with redmanFB44 and usee. Wheaton was into their 3rd and 4th unit QBs & RBs (as well as many other positions) at Carthage. They moved the ball and continued to add points to an already lopsided score. These reserve players work just as hard as anyone else throughout the week. When their opportunity finally comes to take the field you can't expect them to just roll over and not make an effort. They are playing to make an impression on their Coaches and hoping to move up in the depth chart as their careers progress. It's not Wheaton's fault Carthage (or NP) was unable to stop the reserve units. To me it shows Wheaton has some depth at many positions.

Irish,

Good to see you are alive as well.  Nice job by your Fremd boys.  Good luck next week!

speaking of alive and well.... glad to see you're still out there! You've been abscent all year accept for one post that I recall. I can't believe you haven't received a photo from Pat's senior recognition day . Over the 4 years that I've been with Carthage the photos have always been presented to the seniors at the year end banquet. Not sure who you contact about this, but a very special keep-sake memory these photos are.

irish21

Tailgater...that explains it! Pat was sick and missed the banquet at the end of his senior season!

Have the parents of my four Fremd boys made any of the tailgate parties? I wanted to get up there this year but Pat is working at the Cancer Treatment Centers of America and he has to work on Saturday's from 2-10pm. The good news is he is off on Friday night's so he has been helping coach the quarterbacks at Fremd. He goes in and watches film with them a couple of mornings a week and then coaches at the games on Friday nights.

I didn't realize the Redmen had so many injuries this year! Pat just called me an hour ago and asked if I knew why O'Boyle didn't play yesterday.

Well said... in fact this has proved to be very important, as Hershey has had to assume a starting position due to injuries and at the start of the season I believe he was the 3rd string RB.  It is imperative for backups to get reps in game situations, as you never know when your starter or even 2nd string player goes down.  I don't view a 13 runs/3 passes 4th quarter with reserves in as running the score up or rubbing it in North Parks face as Lakeshore implied.  To me Lakeshore is feeling the pain of having 73 scored on them.

Just an FYI for everyone ... With 114 more yards, North Central's Kam Kniss can pass Keith Bishop for 15th on the NCAA Division III career passing list. Kniss has 9,466 yards heading into the Carthage game and Bishop had 9,579 in four seasons at Illinois Wesleyan/Wheaton.

Not to "split hairs" or lessen the accomplishment of Kniss in any way, but Keith Bishop passed for the 9,579 yards in only 3 seasons.  He played from 83-85.

The NCAA record book lists "1981, 83-85". I'm assuming Bishop spent a season at Wesleyan and transferred to play for his dad, when J.R. was coming over to Wheaton from Naperville Central HS.

While he may have been on a team in 81' (not Wheaton), I seriously doubt he played much.  My point is that 99% of his yards came in 3, 9 games seasons.  He averaged well over 300 yards per game for his career. :-[

I wasn't disagreeing. I was just stating a fact. Seeing Bishop's numbers over the years and knowing the kind of offense Wheaton ran with him at quarterback, I imagine that's just three years as well.

No problem... I didn't think so.  Just pointing out his stats were in 3 years to show how remarkable they were, particularly for the mid-80's.

he transferred to wheaton and sat out a year mostly because of his dad becoming the head coach and partly because he was #2 behind John Roomey, who is also on the top 10 best cciw qbs. I believe Bishop did see some clean up time the year he played at IWU but as mugsy said, it wasn't much.

Let's see... 60-7 and then another touchdown with all of their starters in you say?  Oh, wait a minute...  60-7 and another TD pass with ALL of their starters.  I didn't give the same emphasis that Lakesnore did.

Incidently, the above was not intentional... really. :-[  Although at the time of the post, it might have been my feeling.
