from last saturday I said wheaton/carthage game keys would be turnovers and running game ( i didn't know carthage wouldn't play their best offensive player). wheaton won the turnover battle +2 and ran for over 250 yds. both were significant.

looking over the cciw stats i see north central has taken over the #1 spot in total defense and #2 in total offense. wheaton is #1 in total offense in addition to being #1 in both scoring offense and scoring defense.  I think the cciw is sending two good representatives to the playoffse (provided they both finish out this wkend).

If the playoffs are set now as per the regional rankings it would be:

Hope @ MUC
witt @ msj
NCC @ Concordia
wheaton @cap.

many variables to watch this weekend that could change things. among the things to consider:

-if cap loses to bw; implications: franklin takes cap's place and likely travels to wheaton (who gets a home game) for round 1.

-committee could swap wheaton and ncc 1st round opponents to avoid rematch of ncc/conc (not likely)
-3 other pool C candidates lose and cap, wheaton, and franklin make it. this forces the committee to move a north team to another bracket, changing 1st round matchups.

-I think NCC plays at concordia or at MSJ no matter what.
-cap could get moved to the east (ala john carroll a few years back) and wheaton then becomes home team w a #4 seed
-wheaton (or their opponent) almost certainly faces muc in round 2.

so much to consider and its only monday!!

This would be a great scenario IMO.  Capital is obviously a very good team, but I think Wheaton would be up to the challenge!  NCC getting a 2nd chance at Concordia would be great.  Cards are playing pretty well right now.  On top of that, MU stays on the other side of the bracket until the North region final!

a great scenario for whom?? for ncc obviously. it pays to be the 7 seed vs the 5 or 4 seed. this has been wheaton's lot every year. the problem is if they had beaten augie they would be the 2 seed but we didn't.......ncc will be celebrating all the way to cincinatti.

Yes, I will agree, this scenario has us coming out just a little better than Wheaton, but it does avoid a trip to Alliance for both.

All righty I am back.  I know some of the Cardinals' missed me.  :o
I have been here, just haven't had access to a cpu the last 2 days as my roommate from College ended his Bachelorhood (Congrats Drew/Renee)
I was on the air for 3/4 of the game last Sat. but missed the most exciting part of the game. I found out later (at the wedding) that EC lost in the final minute.  Talking with some of the parent's on Sunday, there is a bad buzz going around about the Offensive playcalling.  Without naming any names/ideas the overall theme is that Elmhurst offensive coaches  is too conservative and not willing to gamble.
From my standpoint... I question how come Elmhurst has been able to play strong and be close for a half, then collapses in the 2nd half?  I.E. North Central, Augie, and Millikin games  ???
If it happens once, possibly twice o.k. that is just the breaks.  However this is a disturbing chronic problem and it is on the offensive side of the ball.
When I signed off midway through the 3rd quarter Millikin was driving for the score to put them ahead 16-10.  I had a bad feeling in my car driving up to Milwaukee,  only because I know our offensive play calling is not a "gung ho" type of setting.  I think Elmhurst misses Tim Lester and his "go for it charisma" style of playcalling.
Frankly,  (hopefully) 6-4, and 3-4 in the CCIW is a disappointing year if you ask me.  We continue to struggle in clutch time and still haven't upended Wheaton and Augie the 2 frontrunners (consistently) and now Millikin, a 2-6 team going into the game is able to knock us off on our turf?
I see improvements in many areas and I also see many "windows"  where EC has to improve.

In my case, you know, I hate to advocate drugs or liquor, violence, insanity to anyone. But in my case it's worked.

About the Carthage/Wheaton debacle:  I am sure that if Tim Rucks and/or somebody involved with the Senior Day festivities emailed Mike Swider or at least alerted him of their plans BEFOREHAND, with sufficient notice, Coach Swider would have obliged.  He doesn't strike me as the type of person that would not honor a ceremony/tradition like that.  But you do have to be respectful and give the visiting coach a "heads up".  This is just my two cents, but for the Carthage posters to think and/or question Mike Swider's class-- Ha!  Coach Swider is one of the classy guys in the CCIW.
