Wow, are we talking football on this board or is this Movie Flicks 2006?
There are still some big games in this final week of the regular season.
Another Wow  is the Wheaton students outnumbering the Redmen students on the hill (which we used to call the Grassy Noll).  The question I have is, I thought the Redmen students used to drink on the hill?  I can recall a few times doing my drills on the field before the game, looking over and seeing the Redmen drinking on the hill.  I can't see the Wheaton students participating in THAT  ???

Carthage students are not allowed to drink on the hill anymore. Carthage being a "dry campus" and all, it was made offical that the security would crack down on drinking on the hill. This happened my JR. year at Carthage (2003). This has not stopped all of the drinking on the hill because students will put drinks in other containers. However, it has decreased the amount of fans that used to go up there. Kinda sad because my first two years the hill was packed and the fans were crazy. They watched the game and cheered us the whole way threw. Not to mention some heckling of the other team  ;D
It's REDMEN not RED MEN

Except for you Redmen

What movie was filmed at Carthage in the 90s starring Mario Lopez and Cory Haim?

I lost all respect for Carthage. I can't believe you would let Mario Lopez AND Cory Haim on your campus. ::) ::) ::)

Make or break games:

Augustana v Millikin:  This is an intriguing match-up to me.  Millikin's defense appears to be top of the line, will their offense score enough points.  If the Big Blue can jump out to a lead, it might be an interesting game.  Although Augie's chances for the playoffs are not dead, they must win to keep the hope alive.  Stranger things have happened than both Wheaton and North Central losing.  A win by Millikin will prove what some have been saying all along that the Big Blue is better than their record indicates.

North Central v Carthage:  A loss by North Central blows their playoff chances with 3 in-region losses.  Carthage has got to be in a foul mood after getting run over by the Thunder.  Carthage can prove that they are still a program to be reckoned with.

Wheaton v IWU:  IWU has not played up to expectations this year.  I had them improving over last year.  Wheaton must win this game to remain in Pool C consideration and keep their Pool A hopes alive (Go Millikin).  IWU ruined Wheaton's season last year (so did North Central and Augie).  Will IWU be able to elevate their play?  Will Wheaton get a case of turnover-itis?  Will IWU or Wheaton capitalize on this game?

As much as we hated Carthage as our arch rivals, after I graduated I looked back and thought, what a great "home field" advantage to have the Redmen fans on that hill and boy did they ever HECKLE the *** out of the Redmen's opponent!
RedmenFB44-- There aren't as many students anymore?  That is a shame.  Just because they can't drink on the hill, doesn't mean they can't get all crazy and such, still supporting the team.
MatBlake-- of your 3 make it/break it games, which one do you think has the greatest chance for the favorite to lose?  I don't see all 3 teams winning this weekend, and I think 1 team is going to be SOL.

Corey Haim talk?  Ugh! He's a drug attic, be in and out of AA, former Baywatch star Nicole Eggert saved his life talking him out of suicide.  Not the "role model" that I would want my kids to look at.

My guess would be the Augie/Millikin game.  Millikin has a tough D and Augustana would need a lot of things to fall into place to get the AQ.  That can be a big mental block.  But that is just a guess.  I personally think that all 3 "favorites" will win.

Granted I was only able to get a half on the air, but Millikin impressed me by erasing the 10-0 EC lead quickly.  I also had a "bad feeling" when I signed off the air, because I could see Millikin was being very physical.  That is one feature that I have always admired about Doug Neibuhr's Teams.  They will hit you and play football, the way Dick Butkus and the "big gunners" used to.  Hard nosed, tough ballplayers.

JB,

How do you feel about the talent coming back to Elmhurst next year?  When I look at the people they are losing, the losses are going to be tough for them.

Whew!!  Busy weekend and I'm finally back to the board.  Good to read all the friendly faces.  As far as IWU's flop this past weekend, I dont' know what to say anymore.  It's the same old, same old for IWU, they get down a bit and everything snowballs in a negative way.  I'm not sure if it's the coaching leadership or player leadership that needs to get solved.  Yet, something needs to be down or I see IWU at the bottom for a long time.   :'(

As far as this weekend shapes up, my crystal ball shows the team of Chupp and Chaz hurting IWU.  I don't think IWu hase the offensive line to compete with Wheaton's D-Line either.  I'd love to see them do well at McCully, but I fear they've given up on this season.

The game I'd love to watch if i were in the Chicago area would be the NCC-Carthage game.  I think that one will come down to the wire.  Can Kniss handle the pressure?  And will Cartahge pull one off?  If i'm near the computer (and not raking leaves) on Saturday, that's one I'd love to listen to.

TitanBacker,

I feel your pain.  It's tough to see your alma mater struggle. Believe me.  The biggest difference I see in these Weenies as opposed to the good IWU teams of the past is the offensive and defensive lines.  They are nowhere near as good as they have been in the past up front.  Dunlop opening his mouth in the newspaper didn't help your cause!

This weekend's Wheaton v Illinois Wesleyan game brought to you by Dunlop tennis rackets, perfect for preventing running backs from being quoted in the newspaper.  http://www.dunlopsport.com.au/catalogue.asp?PID=76

Note: I also used this joke over on the Pick 'ems board, but wanted to get it out to those who may never venture over there.
