True but he was the TE last year as a way to get an WR recognition he deserved and there wasn't a logical 2nd team TE choice. This year Studeman is clearly 1st team WR along w Ceisel and probably Fossum. I suppose if the coaches want to make Watts a 1st team WR it may happen but making watts Return specialist is a better option because Bergman is a worthy TE.

Stuedeman lines up at TE maybe 20-25% of the time. He is usually announced as an H-Back. I don't think there was really an outstanding TE in the conference. My opinion is that Stuedeman gets named at TE, and that opens a slot for another WR.

I am sure many of you can tell who I am just by my name (Glassman #66 Carthage) alone but I have been a long time reader and now a first time poster on the board. I just wanted to thank all of you for you insightful posts and support for all of us players and coaches over my 4 year career at Carthage. I am looking forward to contributing to the board in the following years in a positive way, but for now I will keep my posts to a minimum.

Congrats to all the Seniors in the CCIW as well as the Conference Champs of Wheaton, NCC and Augie. Also good luck to NCC and Wheaton this week and I know they will represent the CCIW well.

you might want to leap from the nest and create a new handle. Son of tailgatere has a bit of a serial killer tone to it.  but then again, maybe that's a good thing for you. :o

Also, I'm not sure how the politicing goes, but Matt Denny from Carthage should have been 1st team Kicker last year as he was statistically the best kicker in the conference. I recall Coach Rucks fuming about not being able to get him a first team placement. I guess we'll soon find out how it is sorted out.

One more point I want to make about last Saturday:

I want to make sure I congratulate the Cardinal for their achievment as co champion after a 40+ year dry spell. what coach Thorne has done is imporessive with back to back playoff appearances. Having said that I think it was a complete travesty to honor NCC with a CCIW trophy in Naperville on Saturday and not to have a conference rep in Wheaton and probably Decatur too. There is no justification for that. And if someone says its because NCC won the AQ I might throw up. There is no arguement for NCC being better or more deserving of the CCIW title than Wheaton. Not having a trophy presentation in both places is a joke.

Unfortunately it is not the first time this has happened.  If memory serves me well (which it rarely does), this has happened almost everytime there has been a co-champion.  If you aren't going to have a representative at each game where the outcome results in a co-champion, then don't bother with the trophy presentation.  Incidently, I don't think it is necessary to have an actual trophy either - just the recognition.

It is unfair and unequal recognition to the other champions.  The CCIW handles this very poorly, historically.

Tailgater,

Here are last year's kicking statistics.  I don't see that Denny was a better kicker statistically than Day.  Plus, Day was a senior and that usually helps a little.  If I remember correctly, Day was a stud kicking the ball off as well.

Wouldn't be the first time that's come up. One year our first team All-American kicker (Mike Clark) was only second-team All-CCIW.

Greg, interesting tidbit on Wheaton and how the conference discouraged the Thunder because they were too good.
Sooo, my question here is... If the CCI(W) said Wheaton was too good at the time  and wanted them out because they were beating everybody bad,  why didn't the CCIW squawk or do something similar when Augie went on their rampage in the 80's winning 4 Nat'l Titles,  and setting the CCIW Conf. record winning streak?
Why didn't they do the same thing that happened to Wheaton?  That doesn't seem fair.
Disclaimer-- I am not suggesting Augie leaves the CCIW, I am just looking back in history and wondering why
Augie 8 CCIW titles in a row from 1981-1988 seems like dominance to me. :o

Usually I'm not one to complain about polls...  and when I do I usually get slapped down by the higher ups.

But a previously unranked Bethel team upsets the #3 St. John's team and jumps all the way to #17!  Gimme a break.   Yes they are a good team.  Yes they beat St. Johns.  But jumping from unranked to 17th is a bit of a stretch.

Seems like a heck of a large jump.   :o  Are you upset about the large jump in the poll or the fact that they jumped ahead of Wheaton?  :P

They did do what no Bethel team has ever done -- won at St. John's. They are 9-1 with a road win over a Top 10 team. Voters were waiting for that game as a make-or-break deal for Bethel and were probably holding back pending the outcome.

CUW also broke into the Top 20. Unfortunately for them, their stay may be short.

DanSand   Call didn't play this year rumor he was too old  What about Winston?  Will missing last 2 games because of knee injury hurt his chances He was very consistant the last two years

Was CUW only playing their JV when they beat benedictine 28-0 or were they really trying.   After all they were at home maybe they played some of their intramural flag football teams.  If not then I like, cardinal alum will say they will soon be axed to leave the top 25.

Found some interesting stuff out about Lions from the article linked below the quotes.  Just wanted to share with you all  ;D

Lions are not particularly efficient hunters, successfully capturing prey consisting of medium sized ungulates including zebras, wilderbeasts and antelope in only 20 to 30% of their attempts. They are referred to as "opportunistic" hunters, eating whatever they can catch for themselves or steal from other predators. They are not well adapted for leaping or reaching particularly high speeds, nor are they capable of running for long distances. In general, if the lion is not successful within a few hundred meters, they give up the chase and the prey escapes.

Lions devote an inordinate amount of time sleeping, especially at midday on the plains, once having found the shadow of an acacia tree.
