usee, i've never claimed to have a perfect memory.  too much tackling and getting hit in the head sweating my butt off in the middle of a desert half way around the world (i promise i won't get into the whole crusader/thunder debate after spending time in that part of the world) has faded whichever brain lobe is responsible for my memory.  the final touchdown of that game that i can remember was actually by our backup fullback cory schieler on a simple fullback dive on the goal line, which happened after the option-pass.  how long after that play, i really don't remember.  my perspective seemed to be that the option pass was earlier when we really didn't consider the game conceded.  but again, i don't remember what i did yesterday, so 10 years ago blurs the picture a bit.  i like mugsy think this should be a dead topic.  everything is based on perspective and who's shoes you were standing in at the time.  i haven't been on this board long enough to know that this is an old topic to rehash.  i just saw what looked like a personal attack as opposed to a more general "support my team" type of statement, so i thought the other side of the story should be presented.  i have no ill will towards any other team at this point.  i'm too far removed from all the players now.  so let's all hug it out and talk about games this season instead of games of past.

With all that said...IWU was never the dirtiest team I played against.

Hands down it was Carthage.  There was a game my senior year where a player of ours was punched in the junk (very much on purpose) twice in the same half.  I also remember someone trying to break my finger in a loose ball pile.

Oh hell ya, we were the dirtiest!!!

It was a lot of fun.  Every game was like a bar fight!

And in a loose ball pile anything goes.  I've had more than one person try to break my finger or jab a thumb in my eye in a pile (even Wheaton).  Its just part of it.  ;D ;D ;D

heck, half of norm's own guys don't like norm, so you're nothing special Mr. "non-politically-correct-dehumanizing-name-for-a-person-of-native-american-ancestry04."

ok, that's my jab at the omnipotent ncaa.

It has to be the water in Bloomington. I don't believe anyone likes Dennis Martel, the IWU baseball coach, either!

Over the four years of my favorite Redman's career I met Coaches Swider, Barnes, Krohn, Niehbur, Thorne and Cooper. Class acts one and all.

Can't say the same for Norm and his staff. The defensive coordinator went after my favorite Redman after they beat the Wienies in 2002 along with Akin the QB. They both told him he had no class for pumping his fists towards the Wienies bench after the Redmen scored the go ahead PAT. I don't condone the fist pumping but I understood the four years of frustration coming out during the highlight of the 2002 season.

If you are going to be arrogant when you're winning, you better be humble when you're losing.

U...I see I'm in some good company with my score on the pick 'ems!

I'm hoping our first playoff game at Fremd is on 10/28. I'd hate to miss the rematch in Wheaton on the 29th!

Hope all is well with you!

Unfortunately, I can't speak for coach Martel, though I will say he always struck me as a bit arrogant too.  Although I did have a few friends on the baseball team, and I never heard any bad stories about him like some would say about Norm.  Coach Wagner, the D-coord., whom I played for is certainly an intense guy.  He was an all-American LB at Augie in the 80's just as an fyi.  I wasn't at the game so I have no knowledge of the incident, but I do know from our highs in the 90's, to lose to Carthage and NCC is an ultimate insult, so I can see him being hyped up over it.  Not making any excuses for him, just meaning I can see him being worked up over it.  As I'm sure cardinalalum can probably attest to, Wags lost it last year towards the end of the game against NCC and drew a 15 yd unsportsmanlike, that really hurt.  Whether he was correct about the play in question or not, you can't do that.  I can only imagine the thoughts going through Norm's head at that moment.  Maybe to get a little love for my school can we agree that Dennie Bridges was one of the best basketball coaches ever in the CCIW and D-3?  Come on, you really can't say anything bad about Dennie can you?

As another fyi, though I'm sure this will only embolden the rest of you, I cannot tell you how extremely P.O.'d Norm gets when we are called Wienies.  He takes it EXTREMELY personal.  Literally in tears he gets so emotional about it.  That's part of what I was trying to explain about he is not intentionally mean spirited about things on the field and doesn't intentionally try to embarrass anyone.  he just gets so crazy emotional about wesleyan that he can only see the whole world through green colored glasses.  it's really a sight sometimes.  in many years from now when his time here has ended, he will have a big green casket filled with iwu footballs and helmets and stuff.  you have never seen somebody so passionate about their school.

What years did you play?  Sorry that could very well have been me trying to break a finger or that nasty punch thing.  Well what do you expect we were not sure we were going to win the game so we wanted to win the fight.  If it wasn't me in the pile doing bad things I will bet it was #33.
Redman 04 you know who I am talking about.
Again sorry.

I find it hard to believe that you or #33 would do something like that!  Not two pillars of the Carthage Community, Like you and old 33.  I am shocked!
