redman04, thanks for the support.  i'm trying to work my way out of negative territory and at least back to even.  i figure at 0 karma i can at least appear relatively non-controversial.

During the lightening delay at the Wheaton/Hope game, I was commenting to someone that I hadn't experienced a delay this long since the Wheaton/Wesleyan game from 96 when "that guy" from the Titans got seriously injured.  One of you mentioned his name a few pages back - Deon Hornsby.  The delay was at least 40 minutes and required on field medical attention.

The play had him sweeping around the right end - he was pulled down as he tried to turn the corner.  It had looked like a face mask call, but was in fact a tackle by the collar of his shoulder pads.  When he didn't get up and a lot of the players were motioning for help, we knew there was an injury and it was a serious one.

We were all quite nervous because Deon wasn't moving at first, but thankfully it wasn't what we had all feared.  Nonetheless a dislocated hip has to be as painful an experience as there is.  He was obvioulsy in incredible pain.  After he was taken from the field, the Titans lost any momentum they had, and in fact the entire game seemed unimportant from that point on.  I believe that Deon missed the rest of the reason due to that most unfortunate accident.  What I can't remember is if we saw him again the following year?

WOW!!! Coversation once again seems to be losing its football content.

To get back on the subject of Saturdays it seems to be another intriguing weekend in the CCIW (but then again all of them are). It will be interesting to see who wins as strength goes against strength with the Augie Wing-T against a stingy Carthage D. I believe that the Augie O is on fire and that they will be able to do, in less proportion, what they did to Carthage last year. I predict a 10 pt win for the Vikings.

As a couple people have already mentioned the NCC/IWU game and the Elm/ NPU game seem to have let down written all over them. I think that although both games will be close in the first half the stronger teams (NCC & Elmhurst) will prevail with good second half performances. As for the Wheaton/Millikin game the fact that it is at home off of a loss and the fact that Millikin is making the long road trip after a tough loss definitely favors Wheaton. Going to be another exciting chapter that we like to call CCIW football 2005.

hiker- it was unfortunate because he was a really good rb. and that was one of the best teams the cciw has produced (norm and all). they went out front of Mt union in the 1st qtr in alliance before imploding in the second quarter in what was the start of Mt union's 1st trifecta of titles.

Karma for all!!

Karma, karma, karma, karmeleon..........you come and go.....you come and gooooooo!

This is going to be a homer comment but it is very surprising to me that Tom Anthony did not make the defensive team of the week. I mean he had 3 interceptions and was a major factor in slowing down the NPU passing attack. Don't get me wrong the other are definitely deserving with the numbers they put up but come on 3 ints is a pretty good, no make that a great game.

hiker, deion was a senior that year, so that injury officially ended his football career.  it was one of those freak injuries, similar to how bo jackson injured his hip.  one of those where his cleats and foot i think kinda stuck and stayed in place and he was brought down sideways from his upper body, which just wasn't the direction the upper and lower body were supposed to go at the same time.  i can remember it like it was yesterday.  right on the wheaton sideline, and of course all the wheaton players and coaches all rushed to help immediately, as it was obvious it was a pretty bad deal.  we had to go with a freshman running back for the rest of the year who was more of a big, slow, power back, than the quick, shifty style of deion.  last i knew, deion was working in the recruiting office at iwu.

that year was certainly the year that all the stars lined up for us talent wise.  great qb, great receivers, great tight end and great running back on offense.  a solid d with a great linebacker group.  it's a "who knows" what would have happened if deion had not been injured.  we did have a terrible 1st half against mt. union that year and played them even in the second half.  unfortunately, we got in such a big whole in the second quarter, we couldn't dig out.

To any of the CC fans: I'm making the trip up North this weekend for the game. I've only been to Kenosha one time for the CCIW Conference Swim meet 4 years ago. I wanted to know where is the best place to eat/drink before and after the game. Any info would be appreciated.

augie/doggie...when I was running the tailgate parties, all visitors were welcome. I'm sure tailgater has continued the same tradition. There really isn't anything close to the campus so you are better off bringing your own and joining the tailgate party. We met a lot of good people during the four years because we all shared a common passion. Got a lot of strange looks inviting people over in different colors for a brat and a beer, but when they did join us, they found out we didn't bite!!

We had a great time with the Mt. Union people last fall and it just proved that no matter how passionate DIII fans are about their teams, it's still just a game - before and after.

devildog...never got into CCIW basketball so I'll take your word about the IWU basketball coach being a class act. I know several kids that played for Norm and NOT ONE of them ever had anything good to say about him. He may bleed green and cry at the term Wienies but he has no one to blame but himself. He gave no respect to anyone and gets none in return!

Joe...we're heading to Puerto Vallarta on Saturday morning so #3 won't be in Kenosha to watch the Vikings go down. The following Saturday is the showdown in the Bend. My head says Trojans, my heart says the Irish in another famous ND upset of a #1 team!! Could be tough to head to Naperville to watch that showdown!
