Jaybird,

Don't understand your comment about Carthage having a tough time beating Augie back to back years. Carthage did not beat Augie last year, in fact it was a 35-0 blowout where Carthage had very little control over much of that game. I think that you are thinking about their upset against Wheaton or NCC beating Augie last year, but Carthage is not going for back to back wins against the Vikings this year.

I expect Augie to blow carthage off the ball. They run an unorthodox offense which teams in this conference aren't use to seeing considering that most of the CCIW teams run some variation of the spread.Augie seems better than they were last year so look out conference champs. Augie dogie, another place to check out in Kenosha is the boat house, great long island iced teas!!!

by the way. good luck white sox fans, hope you win the series. Id prefer my yanks to play the WS than the red sox. ;D

Zorb, What is so unorthodox about the wing-t? It takes a disciplined gap control defense with each player respecting their assignment to stop and contol it. Is the Carthage defense not disciplined? Last year the Carthage d-cord. tried a new scheme against the Vikings and it did not work. It was his only bad scheme of the year. I feel that he is without a doubt one of the best defensive coaches in the CCIW and will have the defensive unit of Carthage ready and prepared.

iwu02, you're right about norm being an honest and moral person, which is why i stuck up for him here.  after all, i did play for him for 4 years.  i also agree that those who buy into his style and stay there for 4 years generally have enjoyed success because of it.  none of us are without faults, and he certainly has his, so there are going to be kids that go there and realize they don't like his style.  my own personal theory has always been that many recruits get all this attention as recruits and were great players on their high school football team, then they get to college where all of their teammates were great in high school and all of the sudden, you are no longer the king of the hill where the coaching staff is always kissing your behind.  quite frankly, some of the kids that go to iwu were a little spoiled i think and didn't know how to handle not being the superstar, so it's turned into 'norm is a jerk and made all these promises and i should be playing, blah, blah, blah.  i'm sure you could find that same type of thing happen anywhere in the cciw though.

no matter what, there's always 2 sides to every story.  as long as that's true, the 2 sides are always going to see things from a different perspective.  i have a very big issue with norm on a personal level that has nothing to do w/ playing time, etc.  irregardless of that, i can still say i wouldn't have traded my experience for the world and can honestly say i learned a lot of lessons from him and coach murray.  is he different than most coaches?  yes.  but does he lack respect for other coaches/teams/players, etc.?  absolutely not.

Zorb, be careful when suggesting the Boat House teas to unsuspecting people. :)
They will certainly knock you out before you know it.

I didnt mean unorthodox in a bad way. I meant to say that its the only team in the conference that runs this and most of the teams in the cciw have a hard time adjusting to it because of the fact that they dont see it the rest of the year.It must work considering that they average over 400 ypg rushing. My goal in suggesting the boat house was to get everyone innebriated! 8)

augiedoggie:
Another eatery suggestion in Kenosha is the world famous "Brat Stop" on I-94 just west off the highway 50 exit. About 20 minutes from campus and certainly not out of the way. Can't beat a beer and a brat on game day! (ok...several beers and a brat). Irish21 is also correct in saying all are welcome to come join in tailgating in the Carthage parking lot. We have a new enormous custom trailer grill with cooking stations for 10, beverage coolers and operating sink. You won't see anything like it in the CCIW. The only thing missing is the hot tub! Tailgating starts about 2 hours before kickoff, but I perfer to get started much earlier than that. Your welcome to stop by, but be certain there will be some good natured ribbing going on.

zorba, i've mentioned on here before that i don't think augie's offense is so powerful because it's unorthodox and teams aren't use to seeing it.  every team in the cciw knows what's coming and half the time they know exactly what play is coming.  i think augie's offense is so powerful because they are just so darn good at, they practice and play it to darn near perfection.  they say here we come, stop us.  other teams know exactly what's coming, and augie knows that the defense knows.  they don't care.  until everyone else proves they can stop it on a consistent basis, they are going to keep doing the same thing (offense and winning) year after year after year.

Speaking of the Cartahge parking lot..... be aware of new parking enforcement going on at Carthage College parking lot A by the football field. Parking is suddenly being strickly enforced by campus security as directed, I'm told, by the College's Board of Directors (Trustees?). Anyone parking in this lot without the proper permit will be ticketed and possibly towed, in fact you may not even be able to get into this lot without the proper permit as the entrances are being guarded by campus security. I guess everyone has to find or fight for a parking place in the limited vistor parking areas some distance away from the field. Not vary hospitable on behalf of the College to say the least. It has caused a real uproar with parents and supporters of the football team, but the Board appears to be an imovable object on this subject.

The rise of North Central and fall of IWU in CCIW football is probably best summed up by the fact that everyone here seems to agree that NCC is a heavy favorite in Bloomington this weekend.  Afterall, Illinois Wesleyan is 16-1 vs North Central in the last 17 meetings between the schools.  It is IWU's Homecoming and will be the largest home crowd the Titans play in front of.  Yet, if there were a line, I suspect it would be something like North Central minus 10.

devildog29

Q, that is most definitely a sad realization for this titan alum.  That would have been unthinkable to lose to NCC (and Elmhurst or Carthage for that matter) at one point in time.  As I mentioned earlier, NCC was always one game I especially looked forward to because it meant I would get to play, being the 12th stringer that I was.  But like I've stated before, I'm sure NPU basketball didn't think they'd be in the basement every year at one point in the 80's.

Thanks to all the Carthage people who have given me ideas for this Saturday. These "ice teas" do sound interesting, but Tailgator I think I might take you up on that offer for the parking lot.  Last weekend I tailgated at Augie, but there weren't any NP fans around to join in.

vikes35

Augiedogie,

Could that possibly be because we were trying to avoid them and stay in the privacy of Augie world. Also it was hard to find NPU fans in the first place as there were only about 30 of them on the other side to begin with. Hope Carthage is more fun this weekend. Have a good time, but remember what team you went up there to cheer for.

Go Vikings!!!

I do believe that NCC has won the last two meetings against IWU......Go Fight Sox
