When was the last time a CCIW player did win the Gagliardi?   That might have already been answered

Lon Erickson, QB, IWU. 1996 I believe

The more important question that I would like to propose with the matchup with the CCIW and the WIAC is we both have 8 teams, they should set up a rotation for the next couple years so we can have some competition.  Personal opinion

I am pretty sure the schedules are set earlier than that. wheaton has games scheduled through 2009 currently.

Of course I would love to see more CCIW teams play WIAC. maybe a WIAC/CCIW football challenge similar to the basketball games? they could play a day/night double header at the same field. wheaton, carthage, NCC, UWW and others with lights could be hosts. that would be really cool.

Wheaton basketball team is playing NW Illinois.  Has a D3 team played a division 1 team yet?  Also are we possibly heading that way where we have a couple of D3 teams play D1 schools.  D3 football seems to have been getting better and faster each year IMO.

On 11/25/03, North Central College played Chicago State and was butchered 94-63.  I remember because I produced the game at the radio station while the WONC broadcasters called it.  It wasn't pretty, and I also recall NCC's name running on the ESPN ticker since we had played a division 1 team.  I wasn't sure how to feel about it.  It was great to have our school's name on ESPN, but not showing that we got blown out.

Also, last season, Illinois Wesleyan played the University of Illinois and acutally gave a pretty strong showing, only lost 82-60.

This year UW-Stout played Wisconsin in the preseason and lost by 50.

Looks like the rumor about Kniss being in the final two for the Gagliardi trophy were way off.  He didn't even make it into the final four.

Although Tough luck...it does not diminish his tremendous career.

Somebody a few pages ago asked about the CCIW vs. WIAC games in non-conference.
As Usee pointed out, Augie and IWU have played UW Platteville and UW Eau Claire.
Tom Journell told me this year that he would love to schedule an EC vs. WIAC game, but in his words, "We are ready for a WIAC Team yet".  You half to have a very strong team to be able to play a WIAC Team.  I think this is partly why you don't see more CCIW/WIAC matchups just because the WIAC is a strong league top to bottom. Let's face it, a WIAC Team would have ripped up the likes of North Park, Millikin, probably a close game but would have beat Elmhurst, Carthage and IWU.
I can speak for Elmhurst and know that it is one of the Coach's goals to get the Jays to that level, to be able to compete against a WIAC Team.

Even though Kniss is no longer a candidate for the Gagliardi Trophy,  I think it is quite an honor for Kniss, North Central, and the CCIW for Kam to be including in the running.
