This may not be news to some, but I just heard yesterday that Wheaton will have a transfer from Air Force on the roster next year.

The last transfer from Air Force turned out to be a great player - Matt Stier (3 time, 1st Team CCIW).

I talked to Dan Dierkings Aunt at the grocery store where she works and have been telling her that if Purdue doesn't work out for Dan there is a place for him at Wheaton.  His running style is a clone of Kmik.    Since he is so used to wearing orange and playing for a Wheaton team why should he change? One can only dream.  But with my luck he would end up at North Central.  I see her a lot so I'll keep working on her. ;D

I would find it very hard to believe that he would even consider Wheaton, when he could get a full ride to many other Div I or IAA schools.

I know who you are; the three of you that are spiking my rating when I don't even post.  I will report you.  I think these people don't like the fact that I exist and breathe air.  I am a single disabled man who just wants to enjoy rooting for my team.  Please be respectful.

You bring it on yourself by continually crying about it!  Go on posting and don't worry about Karma, which, By the way, you have stated you find "offensive"

Actually I've heard the exact same thing from friends of the Dierking family and Wheaton-Warrenville South coaches.  If for some reason things don't work out at Purdue, as of right now he'd consider Wheaton.

But let's not put the cart before the horse... other than questions about his size, I don't see any reason why he won't be successful at Purdue.

Not that I don't believe you but it would be very hard to pass up a scholarship and pay $30,000 a year to attend Wheaton.
All that aside I hope he does very well at Purdue!  He is a Hell of a player!

I completely agree it's hard to pass up a $30K scholarship and it is very rare that it happens.  There are some who rather pay hefty tuitions vs. being miserable on a free ride.  There is a very, very small chance that it'll happen, but word has it Dierking would considering it IF, IF, IF playing at Purdue doesn't meet his expectations.

If a player truly isn't enjoying the experience (no chance of playing, etc...), it isn't unheard of to give up a scholarship.  Case in point, Zach Ullrich at Wheaton or the new recruit for 2007 from Air Force.

I can think of 3 or 4 players over the years who played at Wheaton that have done the same.  That is just at Wheaton...

For example when I was at North Central in 84 Randy Cohen a freshman would for no reason throw other players to the ground and make them submit. He did this to at least half the team because he was a wrestler in HS.  Football team members complained to the coaches who just didn't care.

You went to North Central????? Then Y did you start out talking about Augie under the name Wing T and Now you are Go Thunder?  Why??? Where Bullies the reason why you no longer associate with NCC?  Did they drive you to hate NCC ?

redman,

I agree with you that it is hard to pass up the ride and pay for school, but if someone feels like they will never get on the field in a D-1 program and they really want to actually play, changing schools to a smaller program is the only other option.  NCC has had a few of these types of players in the past as well.   Tyke Spencer(Indiana) and Jeremy Walsh(Purdue) are two examples of great players at NCC that transferred from D-1.  Tyke actually played quite a bit as a freshman, but got caught up in a coaching change.

GT,

Sounds like you have some anger issues you should deal with!

Very True.  Not saying it does not happen, it's just hard to argue with FREE!

Spoken like a recent college grad... :)

I loved Wheaton, and wouldn't trade my experience there for the world.... but I hate college loans!  >:( :D ;)

Hmmm, it's been 10 years since I made my last student loan payment!  :-[

Believe me, I don't miss those, but I'll take that one over the mortgage, car, insurance, utilities, etc, etc.   ;D ;D

Well, I am renting, and my work pays benefits, but aside from that I have the same bills as anyone + the school loans. And of course, as a young, idealistic, recent grad working for a non-profit it's not like I have a huge salary.

About once a month I think, hmm, why didn't I go to a state school again? And then I remember, I only went to the best school in the entire world, that's why.  :P

According to the 2004 census: average annual income for a HS grad: $28,631; someone with a bachelor's degree: $51,568. Hmmm...government supported loans at less than market interest rates...really not a bad deal. I think you all made the right decision.

(gasp)   I thought GoThunder, (hence his screen name) was a Wheaton fan/grad/student/etc.
GoThunder, just "suck it up" and don't worry about what the others say/do, because (as Redmen points out) you will just fuel the fire.  Like pouring gasoline onto a raging inferno.
If you have something worthwhile to contribute, do so... however ranting/raving/crying/etc.  is rather ugly.
Funny your are mentioning Purdue and possibly deciding on Wheaton.  I was given half a ride (not for athletics) to go to Purdue, but decided on Elmhurst, because at Elmhurst I could continue to play football and baseball.  I was no "star" in either sport, but Elmhurst gave me the opportunity to continue to play the sports I love.  There was no way I would have been able to do this at Purdue.
I love Purdue and think Tippecanoe County is a nice setting for a University, but I'm with April that there are some things Division III Schools have that D-1 schools don't.
