Lou Malnati's Hands down best Pizza in the world!!!  And you can get it in the city, Greg!  ;)
But in college we ate S**t on a shingle pizza from La Piazza, because they delivered until 3:00 Am!  Sure tasted good then, but not sure if I ever tried it while the sun was up.  ???

Detroit Style?  Must be the worst in the US, cause Detroit is the worst city in the US!

The original Lou's -- and the only one in existence back when I was in school -- is the one on Lincoln Avenue in Lincolnwood, just outside the city limits and only five minutes by car from the NPU campus. So it's not as though Parkers are strangers to the joys of a Malnati pie. In fact, for many years the Lou Malnati's in Lincolnwood sponsored the "Lou's to Win" halftime shooting contest at North Park basketball games. At least one member of the Malnati family has attended North Park, if not more, so there's some connection there.

My folks spent their entire lives eating inferior pizza in the northeast, and they've recently moved to a place where the pizza is no better, Florida. So when they come to Chicago to visit me and my youngest brother, my dad absolutely insists that we get some authentic Chicago pizza. More often than not, we go to the Lou Malnati's in Lincolnwood.

NCC_alum62, believe me, I remember the days of student poverty very well. I know what it was like to check under the cushions of the couch in your dorm room for spare change on Sunday night when the dining hall wasn't open and you needed money for food. My point was that there are so many great, authentic, mom-and-pop pizza places in the city that you can get a fantastic pizza cheap without having to resort to the assembly-line, cheap-ingredients, cook-it-by-nationally-mandated-formula major pizza chains such as Little Caesar's, Pizza Hut, Hungry Howie's, or -- eccch! -- Domino's.

There are at least a dozen different pizza joints that distribute delivery flyers around the NPU campus, and several of those pizza places were around when I was a student back in the early eighties. Unfortunately, my favorite from my student days -- Ricco's, near the Kedzie el station -- closed a long time ago. But you could get phenomenal pizza from them that was just as inexpensive as a Pizza Hut or Domino's pizza. That's changed somewhat, because in recent years the national chains have relied upon volume and cut their margins down to the wire by offering deals such as the "$5 each for three pizzas" deal currently being pushed by both Pizza Hut and Little Caesar's. None of the local mom-and-pop places can compete with that, so if you're a 260-pound college football player with little more than lint in his pockets it's only natural that you're going to take that kind of a deal so that you can eat in bulk.

But it's still pretty remarkable how inexpensive great pizza can be at a neighborhood joint in the city. My typical delivery order is a small stuffed pepperoni pizza from my favorite local storefront parlor, Paisano's in Lincoln Square, and including tip it comes to $13 for enough pizza to last me two days. And they even throw in a liter of RC with the delivery.

You know the posters are desperate for the CCIW football season when the topic of pizza spans two pages or more  ;)

I don't know what is wrong with me, but I actually like Domino's (I know I know) I DON'T think it is better than Lou's and really good "mom-n-pop" places in chicago...but if I had my choice of the "assembly-line, cheap-ingredients, cook-it-by-nationally-mandated-formula major pizza chains" I have to pick it...

I'm currently in cousnseling for these egregious offenses

Not sure if any of you guys are interested but on the OAC board they posted a season preview of the OAC.  It is on the Mount Union  Fan site:

For those of you in the need for a D-III football fix, I know its OAC, but a very good read.

My dad tells me he had a conversation with Coach Swider. Coach said he was tired of being CCIW co-champions and plans to fix that. He said for the first time they were going to have spring ball at Wheaton this year. Is that possible? Wheaton doesn't or hasn't had a spring practice schedule up until now? I can hardly imagine that.

Not sure of the context of the discussion on spring practice at Wheaton, but they have used their NCAA allotted practice since the rules were changed.  Perhaps Coach Swider is changing up the format of the practices?

Hitting Lou's on the way home from a Cubs game back in the day, quite awesome.  I remember my parents being amazed that I could down 2 slices of stuffed pizza as a 11 year old.

I love Paisano's, although it has been a few years since I have been there.  A friend of mine and I stumbled upon it one time.  Great pizza.

Thanks for the reminder to check this out NCC.  I heard about lurking on the OAC board, but hadn't gotten there yet.  It is definitely worth the time.  It was also nice to get a read on the rest of the OAC, just as I'm sure people would find it interesting to take a look at the CCIW outside of Wheaton, Augustana, and North Central (the 3 most recent players on the national stage).

I talked to Coach Swider earlier this week and while he doesn't deep down "like" the idea of Spring Ball, he does like the opportunity of getting out there and learning the reps, getting in shape, and getting that football "taste" back into the Thunder's mouths.
As somebody mentioned earlier, he did NOT like that Wheaton was Co-Champs and that is the goal this year... sole possessors.  Coach says, "Winning the CCIW never gets old" but (now I am guessing here) I don't think Coach likes sharing the CCIW Title either.  ;)
