Just put 8 or 9 in the box and hope the secondary can cover if they go long. If successful Mt. Union is now one dimensional.

I think the (yet to be found) key to COMPLETELY shutting down Mount Union's offense and Wheaton's offense (because they are both impressive IMO) is playing 13 in the box, 5 in the secondary and hoping the referees aren't so good at math....  This would leave them with no dimensions to work with ;D

I've got a more sure-fire solution, if someone can handle the niggling details:

Borrow Harry Potter's Invisibility Cloak, have Wheaton's best wrestler line up right behind Micheli, and grab him as soon as the ball is snapped. :o

[Of course, LK would no doubt soon counter by direct-snapping to Kmic, so maybe two Invisibility Cloaks? ::)  An assignment for Mugsy or USee? :P]

All kidding aside, if you really want to beat Mount Union, you MUST WIN THE BATTLE AT THE LINE OF SCRIMMAGE.

If you win the battle up front, then you have a pretty good chance at winning the game.

If the battle up front is a stalemate, you have about a 10-20% of winning the game as Mount's skill people are too good.

If you lose the battle up front, you have ZERO chance of winning the game.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

That's about as concise a gameplan/prediction/analysis as you can get and I agree 100%. I think Wheaton has had a stalemate 2x v MUC and lost the battle at the LOS 3x.

Good point about winning at the line...that's actually how St. John's won the Stagg, and even more so, how Whitewater won their trophy.

Took the words right out of my mouth.  I have said many times that, IMO, the #1 difference that allowed the Warhawks to win the 3rd installment of the Stagg matchup between MUC/UWW was that in 07, they finally won the LOS!  It was the key to everything from the goal line stand and pressure on Micheli to Jone's scrambling opportunities to Beaver running wild in the open field when he got a sliver of daylight.

I doubt there will be any need for a referee--we really are a pretty friendly bunch.  I know the invite has been given, but let me repeat that ALL are welcome at the Wing Warehouse on West State Street in Alliance--things will start around 9:00.  We'd love to get the opportunity to chat with any Wheaton fans or for that matter any fans of DIII football.  Wear your team colors and look for the rowdy bunch dressed in purple!!!

Rumor has it that as long as we talk, at least a little bit, about the finer points of broadcasting (or anything else business related) that hscoach is buying at least one round.  I'm sure that whatever he does for the Raider fans, he would be glad to do for the Thunder fans as well--except Thundermom--but April, we'd love to meet you!!

It also has to be done with the front four, not by sending linebackers and DB's.  Mount's skill people are too strong and the offensive system can be easily adjusted to exploit openings left when a defender blitzes.

You are absolutely right seventies and personally, I'm done speculating. Just hope everybody stays healthy on both sides of the ball. By the way, I hope you're feeling better. I fear I'm headed for the same kind of surgery you recently had and I'm not too thrilled about it.

As long as you can handle boredom and pain, you'll be fine. ;D

I'll be in Alliance to greet the Wheaton faithful tomorrow. Can't do the Wing Thing tonight, because Alliance is better off if I stay out of bars.

I'm going to be picking hscoach's brain about broadcasting.  Call it a last second cram session.

As far as refereeing... maybe we can preside over a wing-eating contest?  You know how Monday Night Football has those stupid arm wrestling deals before the game between a fan of each team... or maybe not.

Does anyone here have any info on the status of Rocky Gingg's injury? From what I've read on this website, it sounds like he's questionable at best, but I haven't heard any specifics about the nature or seriousness of the injury except that he limped of the field against Franklin. Wheaton desperately needs to be able to establish the running game if they want to keep it close this weekend and I'm afraid without Gingg there's not much chance of that happening.
