Anybody have info on a recruit from Highland Park High School by the name of Courtney
Frison. He is a running back and has made a commitment to play at MUC. No letter of intent just a desire to compete on the football team.
Could he be the next Nate Kmic? :o or maybe close.  ;) There is really no replacing Nate.
Mount does not usually draw from ILL area so it would be interesting to get some perspective from the area on this recruit.

Thanks.

As a CCIW guy who's been in Michigan for almost 40 years, I can't answer about Frison.  But you're experienced enough to know there is no such thing as 'letter of intent' in d3: they're semi-committed when they send in a non-refundable tuition check, they're committed when they show up for practice (and don't quit when the practices get really tough ;D).

Who's this Kmic guy - never heard of him! :D

That is one of the most accurate descriptions I have read about the D3 recruiting process.  Each year a lot of high school standouts show up for practice and are overwhelmed at the competition.  Speaking from personal experience, the shear numbers were intimidating for me.  My playing days ended due to injury, but I often wonder if I could have stuck it out long enough to see the field if I hadn't got injured.

That's what I meant when I said there is no letter of intent. There are still those out there that somehow imply that one has been signed to play at a D3 school. The commitment is as you said, when they show up on day one of fall practice. And even then there is no guarantee. That guy Kmic I mentioned had said in an interview that he was intimidated early on at Mount and wasn't sure he was going to make it. ::) ???
Oh how all Raider fans are glad he stuck it out till the end of his freshman season. Stagg Bowl MVP 2005. Ring #1 too. ;D

Then he was able to sit back on his laurels from that game and hang on for three more years. .........Just gettin' by.

That KMIC guy.....too bad you won't have him to kick around anymore.

Here is a link to Courtney Frison's high school video clips. Actually looks a lot like Nate Who.

This would be the second recruit for next year that looks like that Nate who guy. The other recruit even comes from the same area of in Ohio and was coached by Nate who's HS coach. Should be interesting over the next  few years if they stick to it like Nate who did. You can never have too many RB's. Just ask WW. They have a couple that are coming back this year.

New Tradition

I was browsing the NCC football site (it has been re-done and looks really nice!) and found this list of recruits.

http://northcentralcardinals.com/sports/2009/4/1/FB_0401090930.aspx?path=football

I'm not sure if they're all listed since there are only 30 as opposed to close to 80 freshmen that reported to camp last year.

sbs, Mr. Ypsi and raiderguy:

I agree with you.  I would just add that I always get a chuckle (but am also admittedly somewhat irritated as well) when I hear someone say that DIII football is nothing more than "glorified high school football".  They couldn't be more wrong in their assessment and in most cases, have no idea of what they are talking about.

You, I and many, many other of our colleagues on here have discussed this general topic in the past.  While most of the players at the DIII level are not DI or possibly DII calibur (although a good number of them are and they choose DIII instead for a variety of reasons; and there are some who have the determination and perseverence to make it at those levels if they wanted to), still we've seen time and time again where very talented and high-calibur (all-state, etc.,etc.) high school football players report to a DIII school and are not good enough to make the team and/or cant' cut it.  As all of know who played at a small college, once you report to the pre-season practice field, most eveyone is on your level or more likely above.

Moreover, while the spectator attendance at DIII three is obviously miniscule compared to the "big-time" (although we all know there are some schools who outdraw some of the DI i.e. Eastern Michigan ;D, or one of the smaller FCS i.e. DIAA schools ;D ;)),  those people who make the ridiculous claim that I mentioned above in the second sentence of this post are entirely clueless as to the fact that a small boisterous crowd of 2,000-3,000 people (or more for the DIII bigger regional games and/or Stagg Bowl) is just as exhilirating and important to the DIII players inovoled as it is for those at the DI level.  DIII is still college football and as it was originally meant to be in its purest form for all the right reasons.  But then, I guess I'm preaching to the choir here! ;)

Former3db,

Talk about attendence, tell that to the 8000+ that show up every week in Collegeville, MN every week to see St Johns play.
Great stadium setting, great football (most of the time) and they are out in the middle of nowhere sorry Collegeville. 90 miles from Minneapolis but they have loyal fans who love their football.
A fun place to be on a sunny fall Saturday. Oh did I mention a great tailgate before the game.
As I have said before if I can't see the #1 team in the country play, I will settle for #2.
Go Johnnies and Go Raiders.

Hey hey give some props to the Carthage tailgate.  That is the best tailgate in the CCIW (by far) and I would guess one of the best from coast to coast.

*NO  Tailgater did not pay me to post this either.  :o

Tailgater was already talking about food ideas for next season at Easter. He put some lamb on the "set it and forget it" and it was amazing.

CAN YOU SAY STIFTINGFUST? :o Then and only then can you talk tailgate.

You can't even breath the word  (tailgate) in Alliance...that is tailgate I mean.

Come on up to MN and see. The hospitality is out of this world.

And they can play some football too. ;)

And the Stiftungsfest tailgate at St. John's has a challenger at Franklin, from everything we've heard (and Keith McMillan has seen) this past season.

Indeed, you are right about that!  They have some fantastic crowds there in a great setting.  Also, I know Johnny Red and his Stiftungsfest is fantastic as well as you and others have pointed out.  I have not had the pleasure of participating in that as yet, however, hopefully someday will do so.  All the best to you!
