Anyone know when I pick up that 4th star?   I know it has nothing to do with quality of posts as Cardalum is an all region.  ;D

Ouch....I'd expect that from Mugsy, but a fellow Card?

I was just jabbing at you a little CardAlum..I didnt get a chance to do it at the Quarterback Club outing.

Goulet, 1000 may be for All Region, But Raiderguy is All-Conference (4 stars) and he has only 878 posts..
I guess I will just have to wait and see.

Speaking of that,  How many W's do you see North Park getting this year?
I would like to see them get a win against a CCIW opponent..anybody but North Central.
It would be pretty nice for them though, and one win may even help with recruiting as small as that sounds.

You pick up the fourth Star with 800 posts. I am not sure what the levels are but by putting this out there I hope  our "Fearless Leader"will jump in and tell us the levels for the different ratings. ;D

Fearless Leader are you out there? ;)
WELCOME TO THE MACHINE!

The Vikings will play Rose-Hulman again this season. NPU has come close in each of the last two years against Engineers teams that both finished 7-3, falling just short (by a touchdown two years ago and a field goal last year). This year the game is in Terre Haute, and if the Vikings can win it it'll be a sign that the program is moving forward under Scott Pethtel. The Vikings also play Benedictine again, this time on the road; last season NPU won that contest, 35-10, so if they don't repeat that win it will be a huge disappointment. The other non-conference game is against Carroll, who walloped the Vikings last season on their way to a 7-3 campaign. This year the two teams are playing in Chicago, so that's another chance for the Park to show that it's moving forward.

As for the CCIW, it's again plain to see that the Vikings will be underdogs in all seven games. Each of the other seven CCIW head coaches picked the Park to finish dead last -- surprise, surprise -- and with only twelve seniors NPU is once again the youngest team in the league, just as they are pretty much every season. I think that they'll perform better than they did last season in CCIW play, but I'm not sure it's gonna translate into any wins in league competition.

I would say having 4X as many seniors this year as opposed to last year is a good sign of improvement as far as retention goes. Quality of recriuts will show in the win column

I did a quick check of the posted 2009 rosters that are posted, augie 17 returning senoirs, IWU 21 , carthage 22, NCC 16. if they are not listed here, they have not posted their 2009 roster yet. all in all i would say that NPU is headed in the right direction

I read that Swider said Wheaton has three transfers coming in that are capable of contributing this fall.  Looking back at 2008 statistics, I found the following on Seth Skogen while he was at Furman:

RECEIVING            GP  No.  Yds   Avg  TD Long Avg/G
Seth Skogen          12    5   28   5.6   2   12   2.3

But, I couldn't find anything on Matt McReynolds and Taylor Johnson, while they were at Texas State and Indiana State, respectively.  In fact, it doesn't look like the football website at Indiana State has been updated since 2007.  Does anybody have any insight on which transfer is most likely to have the greatest impact?

Also, I would be curious if there are any other transfers coming into the CCIW that could see significant playing time this fall.

The retention rate doesn't show up as much in this year's senior class as it does in the junior and sophomore classes. Yes, twelve players is a large senior class by NPU standards, and it's four times the size of last year's NPU senior class. But it's still quite small by CCIW standards, as you pointed out. However, the junior and sophomore classes are significant upticks in terms of retention: 17 juniors and 26 sophomores are back from last year's team, which is huge.

I honestly wonder if you have to go back to the early '80s, or at least Tim Rucks's Vikings squads of the early '90s, to find a North Park team that had 55 returning players.

Studebaker had a nice special teams tackle tonight as well as a sack.

And another great play where he pressured Schaub into a short dump off on third and long and then flung him to the turf just as he got rid of it.

Looking forward to Pete Ittersagen's NFL debut tonight! It's at 11:00 ET on NFL Network, for those of you who have it.

On another DIII-related NFL preseason note, I was disappointed with Pierre Garcon's performance for my Colts on Friday night. He has a great shot at earning the #3 WR spot, and started the game in Anthony Gonzalez's absence. Unfortunately, he dropped the only ball Peyton threw his way on a screen they set up for him on third down, which ended the Colts' opening drive. He ended the game with 1 catch for 5 yards.

It sure is great being able to keep track of these DIII guys in the NFL as these last few weeks drag by so slowly before the CCIW season kicks into gear.

Studebaker came back in and played in the second half, so the injury was not a big deal - or so it appears.

Thanks for the update. I didn't get to see the second half.

If the boxscore is correct, Pete Ittersagen has an interception for the Jaguars tonight against Miami.  I can't get the game so I can only go by the box score at this point.  Awesome!

Pete had a great showing in his first NFL game tonight.  He played on special teams in the first half covering kickoffs and was a gunner on punts and was at corner for most of the second half.  He showed of his great speed on a punt beating the double team to the inside but got caught up further down the field and ended up diving at the returners legs and just got an arm on the returner.  the highlight of the night was by far the interception.  It was a pass thrown by white to the underneath receiver to pete's side and was tipped in the air for pete to be able to hop up and grab it.  other than that he got in on a couple tackles.  I hope Pete continues to have the opportunity to show what he is able to do the rest of the preseason... if so I would think he is at least a good shot at the PS.

I forgot to mention that Pete also made a great pass breakup midway through the 3rd quarter on a sideline route.  I'm not sure if he'll get credited with it but from what i could see (a pretty grainy feed online) it appeared that he definitely batted the ball.
